I found this painted dresser for $25. I wondered if it was still possible to remove the paint, refinish this old dresser, then sell it for a profit. I'll remove the layers of paint with a chemical stripper, then sand the entire piece with various power sanders and sanding blocks. Once sanded, I'll apply Fiddes clear wax to give this piece a fresh farmhouse look. Did it actually sell? I hope you enjoy this restoration. Thanks for all the support. Barry

Great job on this beautiful old piece. I, too, love the original look to old antique furniture. Quarter sawn oak is one of my favorites. I have several pieces in this style. Everything I own is a natural finish, no paint! When we were building our house, the only thing painted was the drywall! My granny used to tell me I was an old soul. I, too, love old things and can for as long as I can remember. Proof of that is my husband! He's almost 15 years older than me and we've been married 39 years this month. Have a great day, and God bless!

I know there's a niche market for painted furniture with appliques and all that. I also know that I have seen several pieces of furniture like that land in thrift stores marked to sell at a greatly reduced price. I love seeing pieces like that get a new lease on life after the right restoration! Great job, Barry! The wood grain on this dresser is fantastic and should be seen, not hidden under awful paint! ❤

My sister-in-law painted my father's mid-century farmhouse chest of drawers with red and white acrylic paint and added Strawberry Shortcake decals. I was SO glad when my brother divorced her... Granted, it wasn't over the chest, but still!

There was a period of time in the 1960's and 1970's when people were painting furniture all the time. I remember in the 1970's when you could buy special paint for furniture that was called Antiquing. The process of painting beautiful wood ruined the furniture. People painted furniture at the time because they were unable to buy new furniture. The furniture sold at the time when people were painting the old stuff was poor quality. The Sears Roebuck and Company Catalogue from 1900 to 1920 has a lot of pictures of furniture sold at the time that looks like this dresser.

As always, your decision as to the direction to take with this piece was dead on point in my opinion. Todays designers want pieces that are light, bright and make a statement in the room which this piece certainly does. I understand why some will paint a piece verses a total refinish, I’m grateful that there are old souls like yours to help save, refinish and restore these gorgeous pieces of furniture. Thank you Barry and God Bless. ✝️🙏🏻🇺🇸🥰😘

Barry, you are truly doing the work you were intended to do. This will not burn you out like aged care did. It’s great that you did that caring work for so long, but the body can only take so much strain. Thank you for that service you did. But, golly, gee! You were just MADE to do this work! Every piece I’ve seen you “do” has been so pleasing to the eye and done so sympathetically, such as this very one! I was wondering where you are in this episode!? You really are generous with your pricing! You could ask double, even triple that $200 and it would still be a bargain, because it looks sooooo good and is sturdy and of good quality timber. No wonder you are so popular, both on video and in sales. You’re a real nice bloke! ❤️😊🦘🇦🇺

It is now a piece of furniture that just adds interest and sophistication to the room. It's something you don't necessarily stop and stare at... at least I wouldn't, but it just grounds an room and tells guests you get it! @@vmoutsopagain, not something I would know to do. So I can understand someone else not knowing either. The other thing is the damaged veneer. I could easily imagine someone deciding that dealing with it was more difficult than they could manage. I’ve made that choice myself in the past, on inexpensive veneer. It’s not what most viewers of this channel would do, probably, because they have more knowledge and skills. But there are some of us who don’t have the knowledge and skills, have limited resources and time, and are still trying to put together a nice looking home on a budget. The previous owner seems like someone more like me, who has some artistic skills but not necessarily woodworking skills, or perhaps lacks the patience to follow through as Barry does. I admire what he does! It’s amazing, and I love the stories that go with many of the pieces. But I also understand why some people might make choices like a previous owner of this piece.
