My grandfather worked for the Lane company in Rocky Mount, VA. In the 1960’s to 70’s. I still store things in my Lane cedar chest that was a Christmas present in 1979 and I use the miniature chest given to me at graduation! Thanks for all your hard work preserving this chest.

To replace it with oak would have cost over $250. Oak is very expensive. I would not have made any profit on this chest if I replaced it with oak. I was able to repair it very inexpensively. I have no doubt the repair will last for a long time.

Great work, especially with the particle board bottom. That took patience and persistence to fix. 10 out of 10 on this project. Have a Lane hope chest from 1966. It looks as good as the day it was made except for a water mark on the top. I don't think there is a great demand for hope chests anymore. Great for storing blankets and linens though, (or so I am told).

@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit I mis-typed the age of the cedar chest, its 72-73 yrs old! My parents married in 1950 but I dont know if my mom had it before her marriage. For many, many years, the Lane Co. who makes my moms chest, and yours, would give to all graduating girls the all Dallas, Texas high schools a certificate for a free mini, locking cedar chest when you went into the store that sold the full size Lane chests. My mom graduated in 1947 and I graduated in 1972 and we both got the free mini chests and she later purchased a full size chest, or her parents purchased it for her, I dont know which. Now I have the full size chest and my moms mini chest. I gave my mini chest to my daughter. We didnt live in Dallas when she graduated but I dont know if they still give mini chests to graduating senior girls. Its a nice tradition though.

I had to buy a special vacuum adapter to connect to the orbital sander. It was made by the manufacturer. However, the end of this little connector would NOT attach to my inexpensive little shop vac hose so I had to tape it with duct tape. It works- even tho it does not look all that "professional" My ryobi sander had to be taped to the hose to but it died.

Thankyou for not playing music! The piece turned out beautifully, but I am curious. Why did you not just put a new base on it? The particle board was shot and just not worth the effort you went to. I can tell you from experience that once that stuff gets wet it just keeps going, like a sponge. I would be very anoyed if I bought a piece and found that base. You would have done better to just cut about an inch off the bottom if you did not want to replace it.
