No, thats what is called MEASTO. A feature unique to the RR Trent 700 series. it stands for Modified Engine Acceleration Schedule for Take off. Its a protection against Fan stall and to keep out between 1.16 and 1.26 EPR.

Yes. It has the best spool-up sound. On the other hand, GE CF6, PW4000 and PWJT9D sounds like giant refrigerators. Not that good compared to RR Trent.

I flew the RR powered A330 twice. Both times I was far in the back. 😞 The howling at spool up is still loud though and the thrust at the back gives really a sense of monstrous power

This includes myself. Had flown on an RR-powered Thai A330 once in 2014 (from Dhaka to Bangkok), and I was seated at the rear cabin. I heard the howl once before the takeoff, but that's it. On the return I had flown on one of Thai's older A330s powered by Pratts, which had no seatback IFEs and was really starting to show its age.

Dad was an engineering inspector for Rolls Royce building the engines in Scotland and then planes here in Canada for MD and my brother a freelance aerospace engineer for Boeing all over the world even worked on the Canada Arm for the Spaceshuttle for SPAR... I still get a rush from it all :) Rolls Royce is in this family's blood :) auntie there for 30years Hillington, cousins and now the next generation as well...hell my parents met in the Roll Royce...she was an Armature Winder

It’s a little bit larger than the RB211. That should be on the Boeing 757 and 767 along with the Airbus A330. It sounds better than the RB211 in my opinion.

Really love that howl and slow/graduate spool up all the way to the mighty roar. The A330 RR is my 2nd favourite engine after my number one, the IAE of the A320 family. B757 RR is my number 3. Great video 👍
