I took a written exam in history class in college. When I got the paper back I saw that I had scored 100, but that got crossed out and next to it the professor wroted "90 - penmanship". After class I asked why he did that. He said a senior in college should be able to write more clearly. I told him that I had never been taught to write script because I'm left handed and that since doesn't have and left handed desks I usually pull a spare desk over to rest my arm on. Well this time there were no spare desks, so my arm just hung out in space and that the cramps started after 15 minutes. He changed the grade back to 100 and the next week when I went to his class, he had 2 left handed desks there.

Well done! When I attended Purdue University there were a few left-handed desk/tables i the larger lecture halls. I would arrive early to assure that I could sit at one. It was entertaining to observe right-anders struggle with the left-handed desks!

My late Mum took me to the doctor and asked if she should change me.He told her in so many words not to be silly.She was very superstitios and believed lefties had an affinity with the devil.In the middle ages in UK we would have been accused of witchcraft. PS.I did not know our late Queen was left handed. PPS In Victorian times they would tie the left hand behind a child's back to force them to write with their right.

As an engineer I have observed that there is a strong predominance of left-handed engineers in the specialty of RF (radio Frequency) engineering. All of the electromagnetics labs that I have visited have at least 50% left-handed engineers with many staffed entirely by left-handers.

I've noticed that too! Both my oldest brother (a Marine) and I, the youngest, are lefties. He did 2 Tours in Vietnam, and was the guy in Intelligence that Soldiers brought maps and whatever other papers they found raids, tunnels, etc to. He is STILL brilliant at pattern recognition and projecting outcomes of situations and such. I can can do it too but, my brother is way better.

I was leftie but forced rightie in 1st grade. Oddly, when I learned bass, drums and guitar I taught myself on a right handed drumkit and rightie guitars - left handed! I mainly play drums rightie but I play rightie guitars/basses leftie and leftie ones leftie. All things apart from writing, using scissors are leftie in my life, phone in left pocket, raking, sweeping, shovelling...so on. But some things are ambidextrous such as throwing a ball or using a mouse.

Wow! I can imagine the confusion for you as a child. I was lucky, I wasn't forced either way, although my grandmother trying to teach me how to embroider at age 3, made me feel bad about it for maybe 5 minutes. In short, it's the angle that lines up the straight shot to the target spot. If the angle is wrong, the only way to write is backhanded, (my term) with the wrist curved back toward the writer's tummy (looks painful to me. Obama writes this way.) With the straight shot -- for a lefty -- the hand is going to the top right corner. It would be the reverse for a righty. Soldier on, for you are not alone. Growing up, I came up with tricks for knowing left from right. Directions, north, south, east, west) still confuse me. Scissors are to this day something I handle carefully

I'm mix handed. I can only write with my left hand, but my right hand is my for strength, ie lifting, hammering, etc. My left hand is for finer motor skills. Sports such as tennis, baseball are right handed. Not sure about golf...possibly both. Right handed for teeing off, left handed for putting. Sometimes I experiment to see which hand if called for.

I’m not completely sure, but I believe it’s called being cross dominant? I’m exactly the same, I use my left hand for writing, eating, etc but my right hand for sports. A common example of cross dominance is writing with one hand and throwing things (like balls) with the other. I’ll see if I can link a video or web page. I'm a lefty that's predominantly right-handed. And doing some Neuroscience research. 1. Can all of you both curl your tongue up, "tube-like" ~ as well as, Twist it? 2. And can you do it bilaterally; twisting equally both to left and right? Never switched. But, had a SLP disability, requiring Speech Tx in K, and into 1st. Grade. - (Uncle 'switched' & had a stuttering problem.) I'm the 1 out of 4 'sibs'. I've suspected high functioning Asperger's for 25+? years. Yet, I was the only true student. Dolphin 💚 @ 4 y.o. & Psychology interests, by age 6. 1 male was a severe ADHD/ Dyslexic, and worse - among us. I suspect ADD in the other 2. - 'Lazy' plus, 2 BULLIES & 1 F. with IBS. Who all seem very "mal-wired". So, I also suspect verbal/physical Abuse and Violence, (either, for their defiance? - &/or between them??) along w/ neglect and 'money = Love'. Children, yet. I've seen/heard, /professionals, say, "Narcissism is the "last Stop" B/4 ASD." And "ADHD = TRAUMA." - Who can't seem to learn. And keep repeating the same mistakes throughout life. Do any Lefties, or mixed ones, have siblings with MH issues? Just wondering what the numbers might be. The last 4 months+ of the Pandemic have shown US even more Evil & Dangers. Be Safe!

In his way of thinking,if I don't know how to play guitar at all,might as well teach me as a right handed person...Left handed guitars are harder to come by,and you have to special order them. I couldn't play left handed even if a million dollars was on the line.

When Hendrix was practicing guitar as a kid he would have to flip the guitar over to right handed if his dad walked in. Back in the day anything coming from the left hand was "from the devil." My grandmother would yell at my mother because I was eating food with my left hand. And don't even get me started about writing on anything with your left hand lol. I grew up writing with my left hand. In 3rd grade I broke my left wrist and forced myself to write with my right hand because I was told I’d repeat if I couldn’t do my schoolwork . When I played basketball I was encouraged to ball handle with my left. After that I was able to do a lot with my right hand (sort of felt dominant) Then when I joined the Army I would shoot right handed. Then about a year ago I had attempted to take my life by going Benny Hana on my left wrist which left me unable to use my left hand. I had totally forgot I had taught myself how to write using my right hand in 3rd grade. This time re-learning how to write using my right hand though difficult it somehow felt very familiar. Similar to the feeling of riding a bike after many years. 🤷🏻‍♂️ lol

I have never had any of the problems listed in the video. The only major hurdle I've had was learning to use the computer mouse with my right hand. I am left handed dominate. I believe the reason I have not had any of these challenges is because of the way I write with my left hand. I do not write in a crook like some lefthanders do. When I was a child my mom would take the crayons out of my left hand and put them in the right. I would switch it back. LOL My grandmother/her mother told her to leave me alone and so she did.

How did that help? Wouldn't it still smear the letters? Or was that so you could see what you were writing easier? I was leftie but in 1st grade was forced to go rightie. I still write with my right hand but it is always quite messy, everything else I do is leftie! Bass, guitar, shovelling, raking, sweeping, pocket that my phone goes into...so on and so forth! I can even play drums leftie/rightie. Rightie bass or guitar left handed too!

Before ballpoint pens (early to mid 60s) being left-handing forced a lefty to push a pen to write rather than pull it when writing left to right. Try that with an old fountain pen -- the point of the pen catches on the paper -- and when it releases, it splatters ink everywhere. So unless you used a pencil -- writing with ink in a left-to-right reading world was a necessity. What is omitted is how left brained sensory dominant behavior disrupt right brain thinking function. The fact is Right brain learners need material presented in “whole complex” form first in order to understand the details. Left brain learner need things one detail at a time and build up to the complex whole. Fact Even if a person uses their right hand that doesn’t change the way the person processes information. Yet The school system will label a child as learning disabled simply because the school system is learning disabled and believe there is only one way to process information. True left brain dominant people are about 34% of the US population. Yet the use of the right hand is 90% and the schools and social have decided left brain is dominant. The insanity is that all children and people can learn if the information is presented in a format compatible with the uses brain.

I swear, Pennsylvania breeds lefties. I was born in PA but was raised, and have lived in other States. One thing I noticed since moving back to PA over 20 years ago, are there are a LOT of left handed people. Myself, a sibling, a few cousins and a few nieces/nephews in my family are left handed. That explains al lot about my left handed friend (a smoker and drinker) and I am almost ambidextrous (I can eat, drink , draw , brush teeth and shoot with both hands equally) but I write faster with my right ,it's just my fast hand

When I was in kindergarten, all of my teachers were right handed, whenever we do arts and crafts they use dual control scissors for right handed. I remember how my hand felt whenever we clip the paper 😆 and whenever we draw, she would put the pen on my right hand.

I had to use 2 desks in art class. My grandmother got hit on the knuckles until she wrote with her right hand. I'm the only lefty in my immediate family. My mom took my spoon as a baby and put it in my right hand. I immediately changed to left. I am creative musically and artistically. I was a self taught architect and survey draftsman for years.

My Irish Catholic father tried to make me right handed, but fortunately my Korean mother stepped in to let me continue left handed. However many school and social pressures had me do thing right handed like swing baseball bats and golf clubs, shoot guns, use a computer mouse, and hold cutlery/eat (except chop sticks which are exclusively left handed. While I suffered from all points mentioned, there are 2 items that still piss me off. 1/ I like watches and have 2 Rolex, a Cartier, Seiko's and about 30 others. They all are made to be worn and controlled on the left wrist, not the right hand which is what I do. I almost exclusively wear an Apple Watch which lets me configure and wear any way I want. 2/ I also like pens, particularly fountain pens but they are virtually impossible to use as a lefty.

I feel much better, I think I'll go play the only LEFT-HANDED guitar that was hanging on the wall at a very well known guitar shop. By the way, there were 256 guitars hanging on the wall!! I was lucky though, (even though the odds are 1 in 20.000) a customer came in at that very moment, (another lefty!!) When I was paying for it, asking for a left-hand guitar, and wouldn't you know it, the salesperson pointed his finger at me saying I just bought the last lefty guitar, well, if looks could kill... I really do think I would have been toast!!
