if the stabilization is truly reliable, that's helpful to getting over the hump of a first flight. The trickiest thing about RC planes IMO is making the reversal of controls back and forth unconscious. Banking in the opposite direction than intended while also being nervous is a great way end the day badly. A good RC simulator is the main thing to practice on, but a reliably stabilized plane (by more than just dihedral wings) can be very good as well.
