Test kit. I'm new to this but why do you need a test kit? I'm looking at used trackhoes to buy. I test how fast the boom moves up. That tells me flow. Then I load the bucket and repeat. If the boom moves up fast with the load that tells me pressure. What am I missing?

That's good, Jesse I'd compare the readings to spec in diagnostics I was also fixing all kinds of hydraulic equipment at the time Though, admittedly, never got much use out of the kit

@@alejandrosantacruz5379 Thanks for the reply. I've been studying for a month to understand all I can before I buy. There's high tech people and then lot of common Sense people as in, check the oil and kicking the tires. But nothing in the middle of the road by the good old boys. My big save is I've worked on cars most of my life but never knew anything about hydraulics. I'm feeling like I've gotten enough information now to make a purchase. I'm looking at a few komatsu PC 30s and will be using it for my garden and for fun. Peace.

You would only really need a test kit if you are diagnosing hydraulic equipment regularly. While the method you mentioned could give a rough idea, if you don't have pressure, how would you know where the problem is? Is it the pump, a relief valve, or something else? Think of a hyd. pressure test kit as kind of a multi-meter for hydraulic systems. Also since you are new to this, NEVER put your hands on a hydraulic line that may have pressure while you are looking for a leak or other problem. Oil injection injuries are serious and can be deadly if not treated quickly.

@@justinlc62 Thanks for the tips. I'm heading out next week to buy a PC 30 komatsu. I have 4 to look at. I'm was a mechanic so most things I know but would not be thinking about a presser line busting while inspecting.
