Amazon Echo Input Overview (Backyard Speaker Setup)

The Amazon Input has been out since December 2018, fitting a niche need of "bring Alexa to your existing speaker". Aptly named Input, it does not have it's own speaker. You connect the small disc like device to your sound system via either 3.5mm audio jack (cable included) or Bluetooth. The Input is a plug in device, and obviously has Wifi connection to connect to the Amazon Alexa network.
This video overview is not a full "opening of the box" or a deep dive of features... its simply my backyard, my outdoor speaker setup... and how I am connecting Echo Input into it.

My patio speaker setup includes a kenwood stereo with a Bluetooth receiver. My speakers on the patio are two outdoor insignia speakers.

Ha would love it set up as dual-purpose. Got an estimate to refinish/paint the surface and it was 6k.. I guess thats reasonable but not ready to do just yet! The dog is our adult daughters and she says shes moving out in the year (with the dog)... going to wait for that day. Not that ya needed my life story. ha

I still do not get it. Our goal is to be able to speak to waterproof speakers from all locations and change a song. We bought the input, but it is wired and not waterproof, rendering it useless to our outdoor setup of speakers and lights. We do not want to be up at the house plugged into a wall to change these things. We could use our portable Alexa for that, but still would have to be under cover because it is not waterproof. I assume I am misunderstanding and need some major guidance. Like how do you change a song using Alexa from a pool that is in wireless range, but 75 ft from an outlet, and everything you are using outside is exposed to possible rain so needs to be waterproof.

Hi Mark. Loved the video. However, I am new to all this and not quite sure I understand your setup. I currently have 2 speakers outside with speaker wite running to my inside receiver. It's not bluetooth so I was about to purchase a new one with bluetooth when someone recommended the echo input.

You can plug the Echo input or Google Chromecast and it will play from a device over wifi. The device itself can play the music through wifi connection.

Hey John, I simply have the input connected to a 40.00 Class D Amplifier and it works perfectly. You would need a 3.5mm to RCA connector (very inexpensive)
