What a coincidence! I just saw a documentary how the exact cooker was being made from scrap metals. I saw engine blocks, old bike rims, etc being smelted. The process was done in an open air factory. I just marveled how nice the finished product looked but I would never buy one after seeing the process.
@DioBrando-qr6ye2 ай бұрын
It's not that the metal used in engines and other vehicle parts is not good, on the contrary, it's generally way better than the metal used for pots. The problem is that in order to make it better it's almost never just one element, they're alloys of various different metals.

I saw this yesterday but the only source of lead I can imagine was the welding seam of the recycled AC compressors ... but this can contribute only to a very small amount ... I'd rather think they strechted the aluminum with lead because it's cheaper.

This is because in that region is no real legislation that prevents lead contamination. The lead is added to the aluminium to make it better workable. While those kinds of alloys are more or less outlawed for many years in all western countries, the scrap still can contain lead. It is also possible that scrap from military products find its way in the production chain. The local workers have no skills or means to detect the presence of lead. Unfortunately this is not the only case like this and it happens over and over again with recycled materials that are not safe for human consumption.
@collinmckinney69522 ай бұрын
No it's because Amazon acts as a middle man to aid in selling unvetted products abroad. There's a new dangerous product on Amazon every month it seems. They don't care. Amazon could enact a stricter vetting process. But it's more profitable for them to not vet products, profit off the sales, and then play the "we didn't know game" after the public finds out their pots are made of lead. This is the Amazon business model.

FYI... Indian aluminum pressure cookers (and I guess Pakistani cookers too) ALSO have very high concentrations of lead. In some of the STEEL cookers, some Indian brands also have high lead content in their valves and other components

Wait, is the story really that someone was making a lead containing afghan cooker so Amazon banned anything named an afghan cooker from its site? First off these are just generic pressure cookers, i dont know why they have a special name. Also just getting businesses to change their name will not remove the lead from them. Just have amazon required to test their cookware for lead if they want to import it into your country, changing the name/shape of an entire genre of cookware just to hide the actions of one bad actor is not productive. Just searched "outdoor pressure cooker" and one of these popped right up for Canadian Amazon

The biggest problem with Amazon is that it refuses to list country of origin. I know for a fact that there are plenty of people who want to know. Get your stuff from civilized, Christian countries to avoid poisoning your family.
@NotExpatJoe2 ай бұрын
As required by law, every single Amazon listing has country of origin. The notion that civilization, as defined by Western ideals or personal choices in religion, influences the quality and safety of products is misguided. Quality and safety stem from rigorous standards, ethical practices, and scientific advancements, not cultural or religious backgrounds.
