I had the Melnor. Outstanding performance for 3+ yrs. The versatility of the jets is what sold me as my perennial gardens were odd shaped. Versatility: height of water, width, one side on/other off. And, I abused the crap out of it. We moved and now have a sprinkler system but will be getting another Melnor. Water cost is high here so I want more control over what gets watered and how much. Sprinklers are ok but my patio now gets watered more than my lawn and they want big bucks to move, add heads, etc. The Melnor is $20 and I'll have much more control over my water usage. P.S. And a timer will also control waste.

Yes - that's a great way to think about it! Don't waste any going into the street or pavement. Melnor does a great job with that.

I've been a Melnor fan since the mid 80s. There is a metal version of the melnor oscillating your're reviewing in this video. I think Melnor still has some good products especially their electronic timers. But too much of their stuff is being made overseas and cheaply. I have and still use the original Melnor low profile oscillators. They are still going strong some 30+ years later. I hope they still keep innovating like they have been these last two decades. Melnor has really done a great job at keeping up with technology and the latest trends in lawn and garden care. I just hope that they will bring back their manufacturing to the US again.

Recently bought a Melnor Turbo 4000 Sq ft oscillating sprinkler and I'm super impressed. About $25 at my local Lowes and while the base and controls are plastic, I appreciated that the head and nozzles are metal. Also liked the included filter and nozzle-declog tool.

The yellow slides on the Melnor that control the width of spray are very fragile. I have 2 Melnor's and 3/4 of the yellow slides have snapped off. I like the sprinkler overall, it has great coverage, but now I leave the sprinklers full width because it requires pliers to adjust since there is only small bits of sharp plastic left to grab. I also have an Aqua Joe and can report that I agree with the review. It has smaller coverage, but I think it will last longer based on the better quality of materials in the construction.
@TheLawnReview2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you had the same experience. Yes metal>plastic every time. Sorry about your melnor!

Thanks Ryan for the feedback. You aren't the only one that has mentioned the range adjustment tabs. We hear you and listened. We are beefing up the tabs for all the new XT oscillating sprinklers going forward. But you probably won't see them until Spring 2024.

I just bought the Melnor and what sold me is the fact that it comes with a lifetime warranty so I’m just going to write on the sprinkler where I bought it and when and that it has a lifetime warranty. If it ever breaks, I’ll take it back to Lowe’s.

For $7.00 more the Melnor comes as the same model with a metal base. I have their 360M model. After seven years it stopped working so I called Melnor’s 800# and the sent me a replacement mechanism for free under the lifetime warranty.

Aqua-Joe also makes a larger 20 nozzle sprayer that's 'supposed' to cover 4500' sq. I got one based on specs that it puts out about 3 gallons more per minute. I think maybe the biggest difference in these 2 reviewed is the 2 extra nozzles on each end give a wider pattern to the Melnor. I think you measured @65 length for each and 35 wide for the Aqua-Joe vs 55 for the Melnor? They both may get those bigger numbers in coverage depending on the size of the water line feeding the hose bib as well as the size/diameter of the hose. Looks like you've got a 3/4" hose? probably supplied by a 1/2" water line. It all makes a difference, but I'd be surprised to see 4600" even with a 3/4" water line and a 3/4" hose. Now if you have a well and a 1" supply line..... ( wear our the gear faster....😁.)

I own the agua joe that has the width adjustment. I love the versatility of thr sprinkler plus it has the nozzle tips for clogs. I only used 1 year and 2 of the width adjustment tabs broke. I always put my sprinkler away due to the hot sun but they get either stuck or brittle and break off. The other thing i didnt like it when it waters from end to end it tends to pause at the ends so my grass will look taller on each side of the lawn than the middle of the lawn. I need to call aqua joe to see if i can get a replacement.
@TheLawnReview Жыл бұрын
Hmm thats strange. I dont think that happens to me, but I could see it doing that on the ends since it repeats the motion down there. Thanks for watching!

How long of a hose did you test these on? The melnor xt hardly covers 3-400 sq ft. using my 100' flex hose. My old cheap melnor without the turbo worked great but not the new models. It works fine on a 50' hose but not on a 100' hose.

Thanks for the comparison….slightly off topic….I noticed you have some pigweed in your turf. It usually indicates a lack of nitrogen in the lawn. Having turf around your little tree will dwarf its growth…if you pull the turf back away from the trunk , it might make the tree a little more sustainable….I’m a Horticulturist…(hope I don’t sound like a know it all!)

can you do a video on "how to" use Aqua Joe Sprinkler Review Width & Range Control Garden Sprinkler? I am having trouble understanding the two width sliding tabs. I don't know why it has two of these sliding tabs.
@orphanedhanyou2 ай бұрын
If you didn't find out yet, the two tabs are so both sides of the sprinkler are controlled. This way the "back" of the sprinkler isn't of going all the way down to the ground can stop at say 45 degrees & the "front" of the sprinkler can still go to the ground or stop at say 90 degrees, whatever works for you
@LlyleHunter Жыл бұрын
Coverage could have to do with water pressure but it might also have to do with hoses. You may be using 5/8” hoses which are great but the coverage claims might have been determined using 3/4” hose with only 50” length of hose.
@TheLawnReview Жыл бұрын
Definitely possible. Thanks!

@TheLawnReview Жыл бұрын
YEah..
@LemonySnicket-EUC Жыл бұрын
Not from my experience. Throw it in a 5gal bucket and see how long it takes to fill up. Then do the math. 600 gallons will put an inch down on 1000 square feet. So 3500 square feet will require 2.1k gallons. Watch your water meter and see how long that takes. YMMV

@zhukpavlo Жыл бұрын
Not a true comparison - for melnor either compare how much water it puts out on full width (pan) or compare area on smallest width for coverage that would be a 1 to 1 comparison. Full width will obviously take longer to fill up that pan and longer to water the same area.
