Of course, he did challenge Flick's decisions at that moment! And just because you didn't see someone yelling or something, that doesn't mean it wasn't a tense moment. It's true that players and coaches discuss tactics and instructions. But in this moment, at that time, it wasn't a normal discussion with someone agreeing or disagreeing. It was a quality showcase on why a team with good players and a good coach can lose to any worse team just because the chemistry is really bad! That's why germany did lose that tournament in an awful way. That also works the other way. For example, when Eintracht Frankfurt won the Euro league mainly because of an amazing chemistry between Team, Coach, and even the Fans. All together, they pushed it over the limits.

What I love is that Hansi Flick doesn't let his ego and his position dominate him. He does not take it personally trying to show who is the boss. He assertively asks questions about what the players want and is willing to adjust tactics based on what they need. Hope he does well in barça.

Rinus Michels started this culture of open discussion between coach and players since he coaching Ajax and has lasted to this day. But, in the early 2000s, the Dutch had tons of star players, each with their own ego. These discussions often got so intense that on the field, the team never played as a unit. That’s supposedly one of the reasons why they are often called as "the best team that never won anything".

"the best team that never won anything". That's the netherlands attitude. They always think they are supposed to be the best. Since the 70s. In the end it only counts what you win. And thus they are hardly "the best". It is just sugar coating the fact that they prefer to play nice but not efficient.

@donnieg.9789
@donnieg.9789 2 ай бұрын
@@McCraigor When he took over the national team from Jogi Löw, Hansi Flick was a much respected coach. He was seen as the „brain“ in Löw's Team that won the 2014 World Cup, and ofc everyone was impressed by his treble win with Bayern München. Doubts started to arise after continuous bad performances, especially because he always seemed helpless and somewhat agitated in post-match interviews. Then this documentary came out and people were able to see behind the scenes for the first time. And throughout the documentary, it became clear that Flick not only didn't have much to offer tactically, but also wasn't able to communicate with the players at all. In a very famous scene, Flick showed the players a movie of grey goose flying in the air, in order to motivate the players. You could see in the eyes of the players that nobody understood why they were shown this movie and that they found it as cringeworthy as the watchers. In another scene, Julian Brandt arrived late, and Flicks response to that was met by utter indifferences from the players. In the scene shown here, after the short ends, Flick continues to wall Kimmichs constructive criticism completely, not even letting a discussion come to pass, after Flick himself ASKED the players for their opinions. Hence why nobody else spoke. If you dont speak german, a lot of the subtleties get lost in translation, also the subtitles are often not perfect. All in all, Flick demonstrated horrible man management skills, and no tactic genius was to be seen. Also funny that the best motivational speech in the whole documentary came from Niklas Füllkrug. A first time international & sub was able to create more emotion within the team than the head coach.

Barca fans should watch this whole documentary if they want a clear picture of Hansi Flick. I see a lot of comments here praising Flick based on this small clip. But if you had watched the full version, you wouldn't be so positive. Cause right before this clip starts, Flick said: "the number 6 can only be an emergency solution" when covering and protecting the backline. Which explains why Flick has always refused to play and establish a clear number 6 in his teams, since that's exactly what a clear 6 would do. Kimmich then talks about how he got the feeling on the pitch that Germany's 4atb was struggling to play against Japan's 5atb (which is where this clip start). Flick then wonders why they didn't shift their backline to a 5atb by filling it with one of the 6s. This directly contradicts what Flick said earlier about how the number 6 can only be an emergency solution. Kimmich says as much because he responded saying "But that's not the way we want to play..." After that Müller chimes in and says "For such a shift to happen quickly, we have to be able to rely on each other" Flick gets frustrated by that and says "yea but guys...I dunno maybe I'm not clear enough or I'm speaking in a different language but we have been talking about exactly this the whole time: when one guy fills up a position, he must rely on the guy next to him to have his back and protect him." This was a conversation between the coach and two of his most senior players. It looked and felt like a complete mess. Mainly because Flick seemed to contradict himself and struggled to get his ideas across in a clear and precise manner. With this in mind, Germany's defensive issues under Flick are no surprise. Barca fans should be aware that this whole scene and many more moments from the documentary painted a very poor picture of Hansi Flick as a football coach. I'd be worried if I was you.
