I love Amber so much and her talent is undeniable. However, I am thoroughly confused as to how anyone is praising this performance. Yes, her range was shown here, but I felt her technique was all over the place. Flat at the beginning, slightly sharp on some of the belts, and many of the belts sounded tired and strained. This is one of the most beautiful songs of the century and it is definitely beyond difficult to sing. The only way to successfully get through it alive and well, methinks, is taking the less is more approach. Amber added in unnecessary coloring and flavoring and It honestly sounds and looks like the song choice controlled her and not vice versa. We should all be critical listeners. Especially in a setting like this when Stevie is notorious for having only the quote on quote best of the best attend these soirees and perform. This was very karaoke to me. Again, I am a huge Amber fan and know that this was not her best work.
