Butter is usually more yellow in colour and it has much more salt content than Makkhan. Makkhan is made from dahi . Put cold water in dahi and then blend it . After blending it for about 7 to 8 minutes you get a semisolid layer floating on the Buttermilk . That layer is Makkhan . Makkhan does not have salt content .
