That was amazing, the chord progression is so gloomy and desperate, yet energetic. One of the best Elmyra performances I've seen, right up there with those by @jon_gee

Beautiful sequencing - very simple yet retained interest and movement over the whole thing. Also loved the clarity and edge of the the raw sound - and couldn't agree more about the semitone tuning (especially true for the Lyra). I think you're spot on when you said that the overdrive would determine whether the Elmyra2 is for you. It was good when it got going but as it tipped in and out it could sound a bit thin and harsh like digital clipping eg 3:36

I just LOVE this. So the Emyra2 CAN make music. Bit like a violin in the right hands. I did not find it Doomfull but very musical and therapeutic as you kept the same three dominant notes repeating all over. Very simple but clever. Did it take you a long time to sequence that? I have only had my Elmyra2 for two days and can now master the drones. I am learning to sequence now. Looks long winded but when I am into it I am sure it will quicken up. It’s one hell of a synth isn’t it, There are not many components on the pcb but by heck that tiny processor is mind boggling. Thanks for the inspiration.
@JayHosking7 ай бұрын
Didn't take so long to sequence, no, though I wrote out some of the notes in advance to make it a little easier. And thanks so much! Here's hoping you're too busy making great music with it right now to see this.

Can I ask? How long did it take you to be able to produce something so special. Plus I’m interested to know what you think of the Solar 42 ? I had the Lyra 8 but it’s just not musical, so it’s this or the Solar 42. Your track is making me want to buy this little beauty.
@JayHosking7 ай бұрын
This song is the result of the first day I sat down with the Elmyra 2; while it will likely change in the future, the sequencer data is erased when you turn the power off, so I wanted to capture my results from the first day of experimenting. In other words, it's a pretty good device for getting fast results! I haven't tried the Solar 42; I'm curious, but it also looks like a lot of tuning. And like you, I struggled with the Lyra 8. As such, I'm inclined toward the Elmyra, but I'm sure any of the devices can yield awesome results if they fit your approach. And thanks!

Gorgeous sound, absolutely love it! I would be curious to know how exactly does the sequencer work? I own a Lyra-8, how different are these two?
@JayHosking7 ай бұрын
Sequencer is very simple. Select the voice, then turn the pitch knob, hit a button, turn it to a new point, hit a button, etc. You can set up different sequencer lengths and pitches for each of the four voices, which is great. It's quite different from the Lyra 8 for me, honestly. A much wider variety of oscillator sounds, a dedicated filter with multiple types, chromatic tuning, four-voice sequencer, overdrive circuit, etc. It shares some DNA with the Lyra 8 but this is a much more melodic and controllable beast. And thanks!
@renatonunez-melgarp20666 ай бұрын
amazing sound ! Any tip for the chords? Does it has chord mode ? or u just sequenced with a external keyboard?
@JayHosking6 ай бұрын
I sequenced each voice independently using the pitch knob. It's quite easy on the device! And thanks so much.
@nyppy6 ай бұрын
Those are individual sequences that form chords, but as of firmware v2.2, there's also a dedicated chord mode.

@Solersoler7 ай бұрын
The question is: Is it really unique when its resemblance to the Lyra-8 is so big? Honest question. Great video
@nyppy7 ай бұрын
Is it really that similar to the Lyra-8 though? The only similarities are that it's played via metal touchpads and it has a delay. Pretty much every other aspect is vastly different (resonant filters, digital oscillators, chromatic mode, sequencer, preset cards, complex LFOs, utilities, semi-modular interface, per-voice effects). I mean, there are hundreds of synths that have a traditional keyboard, and you wouldn't call them all similar, would you?
@Solersoler7 ай бұрын
