This was just for fun folks... !!!. if you're a fan of industrial music but more specifically an electronic musician or vocalist who's a fan of Skinny Puppy then I really hope you dig this one. It was a Sunday, it was raining, i decided to sing then re-created one of my favorite Skinny Puppy songs, Choralone from the album Rabies. It took a few days after sampling choral albums then finding or creating a few synth patches. Oddly enough I'm happiest with the tiny elements like a woodpecker tapping on sheet metal or a waterphone sfx i probably purchased on a sample cd back in 95-96. This all came about cause I grew tired of singing my own songs and wanted to have fun singing a few of my favorite artists songs. The vocal effect I made sounded massive. I would've loved to worked on Tin Omen or Rivers but had a lot of fun with this one. Again, I primarily used Universal Audio plugins. Manley Voxbox and Century Tube Channel were vital to the vocal effects. I also used Arturia and Ableton Live instruments such as the Granulator, which was key to the choral sound. I use the Presonus Faderport 16 & Ableton Push 2 to mix my sessions. My audio interface is an RME Fireface UCX going thru Mackie HR824, KRK Rokit 5 & JBL sub. I always use the Kurzweil K2000 series synths and sparingly add my original Moog Musonics Minimoog with midi installed by Bob Moog at Big Briar. My controller is the Arturia KeyLab 61. Mics MikTek & Shure. Video mixer Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro.

A woodpecker. On drugs. Addicted to tapping on sheet metal. Love it. Also, those choir samples are beautifully haunting.

Nice work!, The woodpecker sample source story gave me a chuckle , I have been in the same situation many times when creating soundscapes for the background of songs. Nature has always been the most reliable source for my Inspiration in many ways, not just for sound but also for composition. Cheers!

What are your key takeaways from doing though this process? Do you feel you learned anything new about mixing or arranging that's transferrable?

the joy is in the experience. so many incredible ppl have shared with me. i hope my sessions are insightful or helpful to others. in regards to this specific post, dragging the choral sample into granulator synth was most enjoyable and finding the woodpecker tapping sheet metal added a natural evolving rhythm and that was most satisfying. i find that i'm using the UAD Century Channel on most of the industrial vox presets i'm creating and the C-Vox does a great job. My bloodhound was in the room snoring through most of this post. lol!!!!. I hope you got something out of this post or at the least enjoyed it. it's all for fun or what is it for? = :)
