I love how you are commentating your thoughts to show that it isn’t only about copying but also careful observation/ understanding/ pattern regognition.

For sure! I want to try and show people that this is very doable no matter what level you are and it's a good process for improving your skills :)

I love this type of content! Back in October, I found your video on How to Study, and I feel like I've improved more in the past 10 months than I have in the past 4 years! Keep up the great work

The one hump camels are Dromedary which are more Middle Eastern, the two hump camels are Bactrian which are more Mongolian. Llama, Alpaca, Vicunas and Guanaco are also members of Camelidae. I always make the joke that a game isn't good unless it has camels in it, in addition to it requiring a fishing minigame.

I used this and I actually saw improvement, now I need to figure out how to use for projects
@ForrestImel3 ай бұрын
That's great! For larger projects/images I used to write out a list of everything in the image that I should study; Materials, specific poses, lighting, etc. Then would do a session like this for each of those things, but instead of ending on drawing from imagination I'd move back to the illustration and apply what I learned.

A question: do you think it’s better to get new references after you’re done with a session to sorta refresh your eyes to make new observations?
@ForrestImel4 ай бұрын
I'm sure it couldn't hurt, I usually get new reference when I feel like there is something I'm not quite understanding or seeing with the reference I've gathered. So maybe if like the head isn't seen at a certain angle or something.

equine = horse, bovine = cow. 3:00 make the neck thin and chop off the hind end and you have a flamingo silhouette.

Well clearly camels must be Equi-vine, it's the only logical conclusion

Someone is missing his Chaos I guess :,D Are you lannign on doing similar videos more in terms of style studies? I hate the way I paint and started to try learning form other artists how they paint but it is hard for me to reproduce their brushstrokes, way of thinking etc.

haha, I'm glad someone knows the music! And yeah I will probably take some time to make more videos focused around rendering since that's something I feel pretty confident in if that's what you mean!

@@ForrestImel I realised when I started trying to paint trees a year or two ago that... I don't know what trees look like. Not really. I have spent my life surrounded by trees and I have never really looked at them, let alone thought about what they look like and why they look like that.

How do I study figure drawing from my imagination ? Are memory and imagination the same?
@ForrestImel4 ай бұрын
I think there is a difference between memorizing something and being able to recreate it from your imagination. The reason I wanted to try and draw these camels in the video from multiple angles and recreate them in different angles is because I want to try and be able to recreate the actual 3-dimensional structures of the head and anatomy and not just recreate a specific pose from a reference image. I think the best way of doing this is being able to simplify complex forms into basic shapes like boxes and cylinders.
