Yeah totally, there were loads of those moments. When he said he supposed to be "beautiful" but the avengers had taken it away from him in the form of vision. "When they see they'll understand, they'll understand". At the end he says to sw "You need to leave or you'll die" in a really sad caring tone even after whom he just killed. And his quiet singing too. And his last scene. I felt bad for him too.

I'm honestly starting to think I watched a different movie, because I thought it was a let down. The heroes never actually seemed like they were in danger, because the villain was so lame. One of the four characters (Pietro) who actually liked died, all because he couldn't dodge a bullet, even though he had no problem doing so with Thor's hammer. I even hear people say this is the MCU's best film, it doesn't come close to Winter Soldier or the first Avengers film. Maybe it needs a repeat viewing.

TheoKabala89 Exactly! I knew I wasn't the only one that could be thinking this, seen plenty of people post the same now. Ultron was pathetic. He lost every single fight he had. Not to mention having him throw out bad jokes non stop. His robot army didn't do jack shit. The movie had zero tension.

HadesFist Exactly! Mark kept talking about the "darker" moments in the film, my response to that is: what dark moments? Everything that was meant to be serious, Quicksilvers death, Ultron cutting off Klaw's hand, etc all had a joke immediately after.

Luis Gonzalez Exactly my point. I thought the first Avengers had the perfect balance of "Whedonisms" in the film. It feels like they just let him go all out and I feel like the tone kind of ruined the movie for me. Felt similar to the marketing campaign vs the actual film with Iron Man 3. Trailers promised a dark and serious film, actual movie was mostly comedy. Maybe having just watched Daredevil kind of clouded my enjoyment, but damn, I was really disappointed after watching this movie.

In films, I usually judge my enjoyment on the film on how the characters are handled. I'm a big character guy, and that is as far as I can tell the only big problem I have with the first Avengers, the bad management of Hawkeye. It is that reason that I personally believe that Age of Ultron is better than the first. I loved how they handled Hawkeye in this film, as well as side characters like the twins. I surprisingly really grown to like Quicksilver, which shocked me due to my love of the DofP depiction. As well as the character development, I also really liked the action sequences and the dialogue between characters. There are so many quotable pieces of dialogue in this film. I'm watching the film for a third time very soon. Maybe my opinion will slightly change at some point but at the moment it is my second favorite MCU film, below Cap 2.
@its_only_martin68889 жыл бұрын
Its_only_martin (Forgot to say) I liked Cap 2 the most, because of the character use again, as well as the fantastic action sequences and chemistry between everyone... As well as the villain/not villain that is The winter soldier, which I feel is underapprectiated when people talk about the lack of great Marvel villains, but that may be because he isn't really evil at all and is instead being Hawkeye'd ( Brainwashed )

Funny... I rate my enjoyment of films primarily on depth of themes, and again, this one came out on top. Sure, the theme of AIs becoming self-aware isn't exactly the most original, but I'll let that go because the same themes existed in the comics far prior to the Terminator franchise which really brought them to the masses. While the first film was fun, and there's no denying that, it was just that: fun. There was very little in terms of character development, very little in terms of story and motivations which was new, and again, the themes weren't that deep. I mean come on, 'teamwork saves the day' is basically the main theme of the first movie. In this film, there is more in terms of character development, that much cannot be denied. There is much more in terms of story and motivations, especially with Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rogers/Captain America and Clint Barton/Hawkeye. And then, we come back to the themes, which are deeper and more meaningful than in the first. I've pinned down exactly why the first seems so far to be the preferred option: the achievement of putting these heroes together on screen overwhelmed the eyes of critics and fans alike. It clouded their judgements, and I'll include myself in the list of those people. But with a great deal of them, they still cannot see clearly on this issue. Myself, I gave the first film a solid 9/10 when it came out. In hindsight, it's dropped to around 6-7/10 since then, and not just because I was fanboying over the sequel. This second one I give a solid 8.5-9/10. But come back to me in three years, maybe this one holds up about as well as the first one to my scrutiny.
@its_only_martin68889 жыл бұрын
basquat76 He was developed enough tot he point where most of us liked him enough. It was a high concept film with a lot more characters than the first, yet it handled each of them more carefully than the first did with it's characters. Granted, Quicksilver wasn't particularly handled perfectly but he did have cool moments and some good lines to which we felt more for him than we did for Hawkeye in the first Avengers. What I was trying to judge this film by ( in terms of character handling) was comparing Hawkeye, even against himself in both films. If Hawkeye died in the battle on NY in the first film, I doubt anybody would have cared. However in this film, when it seemed Hawkeye was going to die, it felt more emotional. Use this to consider Quicksilver too. When he died, people in my cinema gasped and other even said how sad it was. I feel that was a good indication as too how his character was developed to the point where he was significant. Sorry about the long 'rant' like message, I'm not trying to seem angry/ agressive, I just ramble a lot.
@basquat769 жыл бұрын
Its_only_martin Ah see there it was. Cool moments. A cool moment isn't the same a character development. He went from bad to good without a real explanation. From wanting Stark dead and ready to destroy half the World to do so, to saving Hawkeye, who he didn't even have a real conversation with except calling him old man a few times. This movie is so weak in it's character Development. Hawkeye has a Family. Hulk and token women has a thing for each other. It's chapter 1 in character development.

I think one major hero that "dies" in this movie that everyone is overlooking is Jarvis. Maybe Tony can recreate Jarvis, although he kind of did, and Jarvis evolved into Vision. However, I think Jarvis is pretty much out of the picture as far as Marvel movies are concerned because it would be weird to have Jarvis and Vision occupy screen time together. So, I think while we mourn or discuss the loss of an underdeveloped character like Quicksilver, we really need to take time to "pour one out for our homey," Jarvis, who was a far more developed character in his own right.

I just saw this movie today and after watching it, my first thought was its better than the first movie and as I started to think about it more and more, this movie is not good. What really hurt this movie was the pacing of it and the villain. This movie made the same mistakes as Iron Man 3 when they showed the trailers of what kind of villain we were going to be getting and once you see the movie, its not the same as what they showed in the trailers. Look we are 11 plus movies in and still struggling to great a good villain? I can not give this movie a pass and look how easy was it for Ultron to get defeated. You would think for an AI like that is to create a new and improve body and yet doesn't do that and comes across way too human...This movie is not even up there with Captain America: Winter Soldier and GOTG. I give this movie a 6.5/10..at first I was going to give it a 7 or 7.5/10 but the more I think about the more I dislike the things I saw in the movie.

@KennethLyVideography9 жыл бұрын
blackrock316 Honestly I'm the reverse. Iron Man 3 didn't work for me because the writing takes a huge nosedive after the twist and the movie's logic falls in expense for the jokes. AoU I like more the more I think about it. I find this Ultron to be much more complex, deep, interesting and menacing because of his humanity yet how inhuman his viewpoint is. If he was just stoic and evil he would have been every other evil-AI ever, this is original, different, excellent almost straight up poetic. Moments like the final confrontation between Vision and Ultron just make me love this movie more and more. His humor didn't take away that much either since most of his jokes are presented from his own ideology and personality, like forgetting what children are called is because he honestly doesn't care for "small things as humans". He likes to think that he is above us but something tells me he is aware of his humanity and in his arrogance denies it, that's why he hate Tony so much because both is more similar then Ultron likes them to be. Pacing issues? Yeah I agree. Though there have been movies with worse pacing that aren't even ensemble movies and honestly I wouldn't even say it's that bad. It was to fast but it was consistent, the movie felt like a long intense action sequence. It would be worse if it was inconsistent.
@blackrock3169 жыл бұрын
garowice its good that you like Ultron, I just thought he was presented too weak, I mean for a robot to be that smart shouldn't be easy to defeat

blackrock316 Just saying what I felt. I still like Loki more but out of all the Villains I felt Ultron is the strongest right after Loki in character and personality. On just a power and strength level, yes I kinda agree. He's a powerful villain but close to end they did the same thing they did to Loki, playing his defeat more for laughs. Making him seem physically weaker then he was presented but I think character is more important then physical power.

I enjoyed the movie, but I didn't really care for: - Bruce and Natasha's relationship - Hulk (surprisingly). Just not as good as he was in the first movie. And Bruce didn't feel like he had much to do in this movie and came off was "whatever" and "bland/dull". Which leads up back to Phase 1 and why Hulk deserves a sequel more than any of the other heroes, because he STILL HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET ONE. - Some of the pointless conflicted moments and drama And yeah, I think the Hulk and Black Widow thing was my main issue with the movie. I just didn't care for them coming together, and Hulk/Bruce came off as annoying to me at some parts. And I think it's because we haven't had another Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo. I really want one now! Also, some of the Marvel humor and the same formula they use for their movies can get old. I fear that it will get to a point where it gets generic. I mean, I came out of this movie excited, but at the same time, not feeling the same way when I come out of other Marvel movies. I think it all comes down to the fact that this Marvel formula of "HEROES MAKE WITTY DIALOGUE, BECOME CONFLICTED, BUT AT THE END, ALWAYS COME TOGETHER FOR A BIG EPIC BATTLE AGAINST A "WHATEVER" VILLAIN". The Avengers did it, Iron Man 3 did it, Cap 2 did, and now Avengers 2 did it, AGAIN.
@mechaocean1709 жыл бұрын
SS4xG-ultimate And this leads me to another issue with Marvel movies I've been reminded of. I feel like it's getting TOO BIG. I understand why and still love their movies, but everything's getting TOO BIG and possibly TOO OVER-THE-TOP (the over-the-top thing might be a nitpick). And sometimes, there feels like there are no stakes, which is why I appreciated that someone died in this movie and it wasn't who we expected. Call me crazy, but am I the only one who's kind of missing the days when heroes had more personal, solo adventures? The days of Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight. Those stories. Every thing in movies feels like it has to be a BIG EVENT thing now and I get it, it makes money, and Batman v Superman is long overdue. But I just hope Marvel keeps in mind that their solo movies are important to be about their "title hero" and not an AVENGERS 2.5. However, I am looking forward to Civil War and how the Avengers still play into that, so I'm kind of being a hypocrite here. If I could offer Marvel any advice, it would be to beware of TOO MUCH. And by that, I mean I hope that ANT-MAN, DOCTOR STRANGE, CAPTAIN MARVEL, BLACK PANTHER, and especially my favorite superhero SPIDER-MAN don't become Avengers setup movies. And Phase 4 should be about smaller like Phase 1 once was. After all, I kind of miss the days of IRON MAN 1. But I guess I also have to remember that Marvel is beyond just making FUN FEEL-GOOD movies and is a serious movie studio now to the likes of Pixar and Lucasfilm, ironically all owned by Disney as well.

Just like in the early comics, Hulk will be a grouped character instead of having his own series. I'm sure they'd want to give him another chance to shine, but Universal still holds distribution rights
@mechaocean1709 жыл бұрын
Sjono I understand that decision as Hulk is another reason why the Avengers movies are unique, I guess. I just want more time to get to know Bruce Banner. Avengers: Age of Ultron didn't give me that and couldn't, as only a solo film could. And it doesn't make sense that Universal holds the rights, but won't make another Hulk film? Like, what? Even Sony decided to finally partner with Marvel to do the whole Spider-Man thing. I mean, is Universal even making money from Hulk if they don't make the movies?

Universal would be more than happy to have a solo Hulk movie and make millions of cash. However unlike Sony, they don't have production rights to the character. They'd have to get Disney to create it, which won't happen won't happen because they don't want to share profits.

I like it overall, but my main problem is the villain. I'm extremely disappointed by Ultron. He never accomplishes anything and can't threaten a fly. Avengers weren't even hurt by the party fight, he failed to threaten the Avengers in Wakanda (something that twins did), failed to acquire the nuke codes, he lost two powerful allies in the Maximoffs, then he lost Vision's body and then he lost access to his machine... Marvel stills struggling with villains as far as I'm concerned. Great thing in the first Avengers is the fact that Loki kicked the crap out of Cap, then trashed a SHIELD Helicarrier before killing Coulson... Ultron could barely fight Cap alone in the roof of that semi-trailer truck.

It's funny Maude felt the Twins were a little too "close" considering their incestuous relationship in the Ultimates. I can see how people feel the Ultron origin was rushed. He was an idea, then a quick lab montage, in matter of minutes Ultron is born in a random converge of technology and shortly thereafter Jarvis is seemingly murdered. All that said I understood why it was handled that way, they needed him to exist asap so the story could happen. Vision was quickly assembled, as well, but his creation scene was so dynamic and how he was realized is so impressive I'm not sure you really need more. Could we do with some more conversation about who and what he is, sure, but like Campea said, his ability to lift the hammer speaks volumes. Though given Asgard's whole technomagic thing and Vision is an advanced android, he may have cheated. I felt Quicksilver's death, that if nothing else made Age of Ultron for me. I knew he was going to die having accidentally seen a spoiler, plus me not really liking his character for most of the movie I was surprised how affecting his death was.for me. I agree with Schepp though, it does in retrospect feel like a waster of a potentially more interesting powerful character. I wanted Hawkeye to die, the movie does a fantastic job of displaying his expendability, plus I can't stand Jeremy Renner at this point. One thing I do hope they do with Thanos is make him a legit alien. Movies have habit of making aliens either overtly physically or culturally alien like they do with Groot and Drax or they just throw on some jazzy makeup but the character is in every other way entirely human. Gamora was entirely too human, nothing about her spoke to an alien identity, to the deadly woman she is supposed to be either as an assassin or her being raised by Thanos.

Campea askes why The Hulk cant just go smash Ultron. First of all it would leave a hole in their defense, and second of all, it wouldn't matter. Schnepp totally nailed it. He said all the things I would've said too... it was overall just barely ok because of the weird pacing, but the signature character interactions between the Avengers were great (as befits Whedon's strength as a writer and director) and that was its sole saving grace. *Spoilers ahead* (duh..!) Ultron himself was two pronged to me - while I loved his personality with all his quirks and awesome quip-matches with Stark and also how imposing and threatening he felt physically, chiefly due to Spader's awesome performance and Whedon's masterful dialogues, I felt we were never really shown that he *could* take all the Avengers all on his own except in the first scene a little bit. I didn't buy him as this existential threat to the Avengers - to humanity, sure, he WAS that level of a threat all on his own, but only if there were no Avengers. But I never really got how he'd be that big a threat as long as they were around. I can imagine it, but I felt they didn't really manage to show it. It seemed like Scarlet Witch on her lonesome was a far bigger threat, even with her powers exactly at the same level as they were shown to be. It would've been better if Ultron were to get hold of the Hulkbuster to try and neutralize the Hulk - temporarily at least. I would've also liked it more if they didn't "tease" and foreshadow the Hawkeye death soo freaking much at every opportunity and then have a special separate 'death scene' within the climax, because then it just felt like both those things were just put in there artificially just coz somebody thought "Oh we should have one of them die and lets not do it in an obvious way". That took me out of the movie, several times... through all the Hawkeye death foreshadowing I never bought it and I remember thinking before the final fight, man they have been so heavy handed with this foreshadowing that now either way it turns out - whether Hawkeye lives or dies - its just gonna feel weird and overdone. If you foreshadow it so much and then have him die, it feels like oh we saw that coming from a mile away and if not then it feels like an elaborate distraction was put in there just for the sake of it and just a waste of time... either way it doesn't work for me. I was 80% sure Hawkeye wasn't gonna die precisely because of the heavy handed nature of the foreshadowing but I didn't even care that much even if it were a double bluff and he would have actually died. And as many in the panel said, since I wasn't so attached to the twins' story too much, I didn't care when QS bit it in the end. It was just not done properly I think. it required more subtlety.

I really liked Age of Ultron. Forget about the whole comic-lore and potential money it was "suppose" to bring in; there are key phylisophical points about humanity that were made. For example, the way Vision said that humans cannot see the difference between order and chaos; much like Ultron did not see a difference in wiping out humanity or saving it, in order to bringforth peace on Earth. Also, when Captain said that innocent people die every time someone tries to prevent a war before it starts. Great quotes of wisdom to ponder on in a superheroes film is what makes this movie great; it provides a time to reflect on ourselves (even as a whole country or planet). Now, if I had to change anything about AOU, it would be to include Hank Pym (original Ant-Man) in the credit of creating ultron, like in the Marvel comics. Tony and Bruce might have taking some of his work notes in creating Ultron, or something like that. Also, the scene where Ultron was able to kidnap Black Widow by the heal, in the last split second after truck explosion in the air; it seemed forced by the studio. And, it feels that the Quicksilver ending was a direct result of Fox releasing their movie-version of this character; but worth the unexpected plot twist. (Also, it brings awareness to the general public about the contractual, movie rights of characters these studios are struggling to own). After all the drama with Joss Whedonon and the MCU, he should do what exactly what J.J. Abrams did when he went from one side of a franchise (Star Trek) to the opposite (Star Wars): JOSS WHEDON SHOULD LEAVE MARVEL MCU AND JOIN WARNER BROS IN MAKING A D.C. MOVIE TO BRING BACK BALANCE TO THE SWEATY, GEEKY UNIVERSE!!! Yes, Age of Ultron was that good. Besides, this movie should never be seen as a single story, it's an essential link to Avengers evolving story line. Just like the paper-printed comics of the the post-millennial dark ages. Also, JW engeniously created two endings in a single movie: one part of the audience thought that Vision and Ultron annialated each other; the other thinks they teleported each other to another part of the galaxy (Thano's Arena?) to "resolve" things. Here's an idea for the Hulk continuation: have the Guardians of the Galaxy abduct Banner to a Planet Hulk. BOOM, WERE YOU LOOKING FOR THIS?! -MR

Anyone else think the Thanos after-credits scene would have made more sense at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy? Especially as that movie had Ronan finding the stone for Thanos but then not bringing it to him. Why is Thanos all in a huff after Age of Ultron? No-one failed him in this movie. This after-credits scene should have been moved to the end of Guardians, after the Howard the Duck bit of course, and AoU should have been Black Panther tracking down an injured Uylesses Claw or an introduction to Spidey.

One of my biggest unanswered questions from the movie was the origin of the twins' powers. Was there an explanation that I missed? I heard rumors a while back that their powers originated from Loki's staff, but that isn't shown in the movie. We know that the staff was there, but so was a bunch of other stuff. Agents of Shield has been pushing Inhumans pretty hard, so I was expecting some Inhumans connection for the twin, but no, that didn't happen.

After watching Avengers: Age of Ultron of Ultron in IMAX 3D, RealD 3D (Friday and Saturday), and it was spectacular. This movie really leveled the playing field even more giving hints about 4 storylines that are about to happen (Avengers Infinity Wars Part 1 & 2, Civil War, Thor Ragnarok, and Black Panther). Divulging more into Barton's backstory was amazing. Seeing Barton having a family was beautiful. Storyline between Natasha Romanov and Bruce Banner trying to have a relationship was a nice stretch. Loved the Beauty and the Beast moments between the Widow and The Hulk. James Spader as Ultron was just menacing in so many levels and he can sing. When Spader's Ultron sings No Strings on me it gave me goosebumps. He just embodied Ultron so gracefully and you can see human type characteristic in him. Vision's entrance into the fold was great and especially Vision and Ultron having that face/off was incredible. Just seeing his transformation from Jarvis to this bio-organic android with the mind infinity stone was perfect. I think Serkis was born to play Ulysses Klaue and I was right about Ultron making his dealings with Klaue when it came to getting more vibranium to create his army. The Maximoff Twins were great and loved there sokovian accents. I kind of felt Scarlet Witch's power was a combination of Charles Xavier, Jean Grey and Emma Frost while Quicksilver was quicksilver as he reacts fast. Seeing that epic tie-in jump shot in the beginning of the film was epic. All the other nice cameos and supporting cast from Sam Wilson, James Rhodes, Erik Selvig, Nick Fury, Maria Hill were great.

Quicksilver's death definitely helps to further along Scarlet Witch and Vision's relationship (as y'all pointed out in your review) but I can see Pietro's death being used as a plot point in the upcoming Doctor Strange movie as well. I've heard that Scarlet Witch will be in it and she's supposedly gonna be trained by the Sorcerer Supreme in the movie. So Pietro's death could be used as something that weighs heavy on her and could be some sort of emotional block while she's training, or it could be the opposite and it makes her rage out of control and she will have to get trained so she can keep her powers from destroying everything in sight (kinda like Phoenix/Dark Phoenix).
@mattduff32449 жыл бұрын
XmenMagnetoAcolytes I never said he was going to come back. Not sure where you got that from, as I said that the DEATH of Pietro would weigh heavily on Scarlet Witch (because he's her twin) and that could be used as a plot point for Doctor Strange, as she will be his apprentice in the movie. Once again, the weight of Quicksilvers DEATH could be used as a plot point as to why Scarlet Witch can't master her powers in Doctor Strange. Btw I'm not saying that it will be used as a plot point, just that it could. The point being that I never said that I thought Quicksilver would be brought back to life. That would take away the purpose of him dying in the first place! They killed him mainly to show the fans that characters can actually die in this universe, which gives more weight to the stakes of the movies. Bringing him back would just piss the fans off at this point.
@ikamts29 жыл бұрын

9?, Come on,...This movie is not good. The plot is simple and was terribly executed. The pacing is way off, the tone uneven, repetitive humor and worse of all, what could have been a great villain, was rushed and not well developed. I mean, Ultron had less screen time and back story than hawkeye and black widow. Quicksilver could've made a great avenger that would actually have cool super powers. This movie bothered me more than TASM2. I am not a hater, but this movie was really disappointing. At least The vision was a good point in the movie.

bestguyintheworld15 I laughed my ass off because it thought he told hawk eye again, "You didn't see that coming?" but he actually said i didn't see that coming which i thought was very stupid anyways but it wasn't that bad the second time i saw it. I give his death an 7/10.

Alex Tapia I agree and although his death the second time was a little emotional, I believed it to be unnecessary and anti-climactic.

I have a theory.. If you notice the connection between Ultron and Scarlet witch, Ultron seems to be more nurturing towards her.. On the train, he says "you don't have to do this" to scarlet witch, and when the chunk of Europe fell, ultron told scarlet witch, "if you stay, you will die" this proves that ultron actually has feelings for scarlet witch! He actually cared for her health and wellbeing! Obviously in the comics vision has a relationship with scarlet witch, and hopefully Ultron's feelings for scarlet witch get passed on to vision when ultron transmitted part of his brainwaves into vision! Also one slightly disturbing theory. When scarlet witch left ultron, obviously ultron will feel sad and alone, so he kidnapped black widow to keep him company as roughly said in the movie, but is it just me or when black widow woke up in Slovakia, she was no longer wearing her bra and you could see her nipples through her suit... And her zip was slightly lowered.. To me, this feels like ultron dealt with his loss by kidnapping another woman and possibly did something "funny" to her as she was unconscious! Ultron has no genitals so I would not go as far to say rape, but ultron certainly DID do something to black widow! It's either that, or scarlet johanson's nipples just perked in the cold climate. Mmmmmm| johanson's nipples :3

I have to agree with Shnepp for almost everything that was mishandled (in my opinion). The pacing seemed so uneven and rushed, the fact that the original cut was 3h30 to 4h00 explains a lot, though I feel like they could have edited it better in terms of pausing for breaths throughout the incessant action (in order to set-up and develop newly introduced characters for example). The Barton house was pretty much the only pause we had not including the party scene. The strengths of this movie definitely lie in the mix of frenetic action, humor and the tone that they create throughout the movie. That being said, the character development was way too unbalanced. Now, the core Avengers team doesn't need anymore deep development given the first Avengers movie and all the stand alone movies set-up and defined these characters very well. However, my statement was rather made to address Hawkeye, Utron, the vision and especially the twins. I felt their powers were intentionally explained very vaguely (and simply) because of their comic book origins (being mutants, connection to Magneto etc.) and the fact that either Whedon wasn't satisfied with being unable to fully expand on those character ties or that he simply didn't want to dredge up the comic book nerd-rage of the masses that a fully fleshed out, completely different origin might have awakened (unlikely though, given Joss's nonchalance when it comes to haters). It seemed as if they (Joss Whedon and the writing team) felt the need to make up for the lack of development with Hawkeye from the first movie and made a point of overexposing his character in this movie as a result. They also used this for misdirection (are they setting him up to die?), but man did I feel it was underwhelming when Pietro bit the bullet(s) instead. It just felt like a waste of a character (even if I too felt it necessary and convenient given the Wanda/Vision connection and the fact that quicksilver was a quite poorly developed character). The lack of exposition for his character compared to Hawkeye, (although quicksilver's sacrifice was well set-up and executed given the Hakeye/Pietro rivalry etc.) made Pietro seem like an extra on set (or a bench warmer, whichever is more insulting) simply being "present", none of his dialogue felt "real" or had any impact. The part with his parents and his relationship with his sister for example were all well *explained* but I felt no emotional weight or attachment hitting me while I heard all this information being uttered by the character. Then there's Thor's Fever Dream WTF scene, which obviously had only one purpose (besides exposing all of Chris Hemsworth's hard work in the gym), which was to emphasize the ominous foreshadowing of the Infinity War. The way it was handled however felt rushed, forced and disconnected from rest of the movie. I also figured the Hulk exiling himself opened up a door for a World War Hulk Arc and possibly a movie. Though that's always been a point of contention for many reasons in terms of a stand alone movie. So I'll leave that bit of speculation on the sidelines for now, much like The Hulk Lastly, Ultron was disappointing. Again my feelings mirror Shnepp's 100%. His origin felt rushed, even given John's reasoning, the explanation of how he was "born" wasn't the problem for me. The fact that he became sentient so quickly and then just arrived to the "logical" conclusion of his form and function and our (humanity's) role in his mission (adapt or die, evolution or genocide) felt like such a rushed necessity for the sole purpose of having an Avengers level threat that it formed a disconnect and took away from all of his qualities in the process (though it didn't make his one-liners any less funny). I loved his personality and again the reasoning behind it holds up, Tony stark mixed with Hydra fanaticism, extremism and Baron Strucker's Madness. The problem was the lack of development. What makes Ultron so pleasantly Ironic is the fact that he contradicts his whole assessment of human evolution by simply existing. Never fully realizing just how flawed and human like he actually is, which is something I would've loved to have seen more of, not just through his personality, but more like the last conversation he had with The Vision (who I felt was very well handled in comparison). Also the fact that Vision has one of the Infinity gem's on his head will definitely make him a target for Thanos soon enough. I'm interested to see how that is handled and what consequences it will create for The Vision character. All that being said, this movie still fulfilled it's purpose, which was to entertain. I give it 7.5/10 while I gave the first Avengers 8.5/10. Still highly recommend seeing it for pure entertainment value and a visual feast. Great spoilers review as always.

Age of Ultron sucked. Too many jokes and one liners. Ultron was a pathetic ass villain, ultron struggled against iron man alone and he was no match for Vision with the infinity stone. I was hoping for a bad ass ultron that brought the avengers to their knees, instead we got the avengers easily crushing all of ultrons minions....smh

Finally most critics aren´t kissing Marvel´s ass as much this time. I´m glad. Their movies are just well done average flicks. At the end of the day not even the ass kissing can beat Nolan´s Batman trilogy not even when it comes to rates by critics.

sanyrub Is that the same trilogy that's shot in plenty of shadow, disorienting close ups and choppy editing to conceal the director's utter ineptitude in action sequences? It's clunky and leaden. Heath Ledger was really great though.

One thing that I loved when they referenced Wakanda was that Tony and Steve seemed to have knowledge of its existence. They both knew about what comes from Wakanda and Tony seemed to know that it is not the friendliest place on earth: "If this guy got out of Wakanda with some of their trinkets". Hopefully in Black Panther we can see the history it has had with the outside world.

Hey AMC, big fan here :) About Quicksilver death scene... It wasn't surprising at all,thanks to Marvel Studio !!! See, months before this movie, they announced that Jeremy Renner is returning for Civil War. And not only that...but, several days before AOU is released, the studio made a spoiler again - by announcing that only Elizabeth Olsen (out of twins) is returning for Civil War.. Irony,right? I stood away from any message boards to avoid spoilers, and Marvel spoiled it instead...

But what i really liked about that speech on top of the Humor from Hawkeye , was that he came across as a father figure towards scarlet. The twins more or less grew up with no father , they only had each other...they are then put in a bad spot in this fight and we see scarlet's vulnerable side like a scared child (which was awesome) so to me we saw more of this Paternal side to Hawkeye which Scarlet witch needed in that moment. I loved that scene a lot.

One thing John and crew didn't cover was the Hulkbuster suit. I loved the way it was done. 1st, having it in orbit to reach anywhere on Earth quickly. 2nd, knowing Banner helped design it to defeat himself. 3rd, having - essentially - a factory hovering above the fight and supplying Iron Man replacement parts for what the Hulk breaks or rips off during the fight was sensible and a great touch.

This was a good, yet messy entertainment. While I liked the banter between our heroes, the action sequences, and the hat tips to future MCU movies (you know that started with Tony's Scarlet Witch-induced trance!), I walked away from my first viewing with three problems: 1. 3D: After watching this movie, 3D has completely lost its value proposition. By the end of the movie there's no sense of 3D, and I could barely tell any of the blacks on the screen. Next time I see it will be in 2D 2. Ultron's early evolution: When he first appears to the Twins, what's left unanswered is "How did he get into this metallic form from what we saw in Stark Tower?" 3. Ultron's (lack of) ferocity: We have a villain with a god complex who takes up multiple robotic forms at once, can control computers, and is composed of vibranium by the film's climax. He could have been a bit more formidable to the world -- taking over anything within a electronic circuit, shutting down the Internet, and (literally) breaking Cap in half. He had more potential. I might change my mind after a next viewing, and after seeing the future MCU films, but for now, that's where I stand.

Ultron had so much potential, he was done okay. I do like how they gave him a human characteristic but that also took away from him being the villain that was shown in the trailers. I wished Ultron would've fought more. Yeah he fought a little bit with iron man, captain America and very little with Thor and vision... Really little fight with vision. I wanted him to be more imposing, the trailer really got me into him and I was legit scared for the avengers because none of them seemed that strong to take down a robot like him. I was let down with how they took him out. One scene in particular that I'm mixed on is the scene when he tells Wanda if she doesn't get off the land that she'll die. Why does he care?! He wants to wipe everyone out. But I kinda get why because earlier in the movie he empathized the twins situation, but still... Come on.

I think for me, the death of Quicksilver hit me so hard because I have a twin brother, and seeing Wanda's reaction is exactly how I would react. Even more so if he was the only person I had left. I felt exactly what she was feeling. I choked up a bit because I put myself in her shoes. And Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen have great chemistry together. They made me believe that they're actually brother and sister. I really don't think that there's a stronger bond than the one siblings share.

I definitely prefer AoU to the original. The first avengers has no re-watch value in my opinion because it's all buildup to that moment when the team finally gets formed. The buildup is GREAT, but watching it again has little to no payoff after having seen the end result. AoU does have a better villain in my opinion, and I LOVE each and every one of the new characters. Every second that Vision's on screen is gold, and seeing the evolution of scarlet witch is great. I would rank the MCU movies: 1. Iron man 2. Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Captain America 2 4. Avengers 2 5. Avengers

I agree with everything Shepp said about Ultron. My money shot was when Vision, Thor and Iron Man were blasting Ultron that was such beautiful shot just a picture perfect comic book page.

I am glad they mentioned the line that Hawkeye said, "The city is floating and I have a bow & arrow. Nothing makes sense." ha ha.. I laughed so hard at that.. It was such a "Real" moment right there, along with the part they also mentioned, where Scarlet Witch sees that her brother dies, and the Ultron minions are surrounding her and she just disintegrates them all.. it really does put things into perspective as to how much untapped power she has that she isn't aware of, or anyone is aware of for that matter. It will be so awesome to see what they have for us in the future..
@Bolvar4dragon9 жыл бұрын
I'm with Schnepp. Vision's scenes were the most elevated parts of the movie for me. Bettany just had this otherworldly presence to him. I loved it! I also agree with the pacing issues. I felt them as well, specifically with how suddenly Ultron was created and how he was pretty much instantly evil. I would have liked to see that as having been a transformation. Maybe he started out as a success but then, realizing how truly futile his purpose was, turned on the Avengers or spun his purpose differently as he continued to process it. I think that sense of betrayal and failure would have contributed that much more to the weight of Ultron and the effect he would have had on Tony, and the team. I felt some real tension in the Widow-Hulk scenes, because I kept feeling like her lullaby thing wasn't going to work this time and thought Hulk was going to wind up swatting Widow away, heh. That said, everything else about the "Brutasha" relationship was a waste to me and I contend it was out of place in the movie. A lot of the beats that they had together I think could have been better handled by a deeper friendship, if they were necessary at all. One of my issues with it though was that it sort of ret-conned Banner's supposed control that he displayed at the end of the first Avengers. Whether they had this relationship or not in the movie really had no impact on his berserk scene, as that was all Scarlet Witch's doing. Out of everything in this movie, this was the thing I was the most skeptical of. And there were moments where I really thought it was going to work, I really did, but then they didn't, and it turns out that its what worked the least for me out of everything.. Now I'm not sure if this is fair or not, but one of my disappointments (and this is really rather minor, because I think the movie makes up for it) was the tone. The trailers, especially the earlier ones, made you feel like this was going to be a darker, deeper film, in much the same way the Winter Soldier was, if not more so. I was craving that tone. But scenes like the Avengers down and out and the shield broken was just a vision (darn that misdirect!), or the scene where Cap loses the vehicles over the bridge didn't actually come to have consequences because Thor just happens to fly up and save them. I really wanted to feel the weight of their failures in this film and to see how they sprung back from it, if at all. They really made it seem like nothing could go wrong. Granted, that may lend itself to making some of the coming films that much more impactful when crap does hit the fan, but it also makes me skeptical moving forward that the stakes will ever be all that high. Ultron was not as menacing or as formidable as I was expecting, but I still really enjoyed his personality. I do wish he was though. I feel like he could have been, while still being really funny and cool in other ways, and if he was, I think he would have been elevated as a villain and as a character for... well, everyone. All that said, I really enjoyed this film. Those were just some of the things I wish would have been handled differently, but so much of this film was great; the action, the wit, the humor, a lot of the character moments. It was a true spectacle and I can't wait to see it again!! xD

If Jon Schnepp, the worlds biggest nerd, had issues with the film that means the film had issues. I enjoyed the movie, it frustrated me but still enjoyed it. I value Schnepps opinion more highly than any other member of this team when it comes to comic book stuff.
