Great walkthrough, was watching this just to see what settings everyone else with this chip used, noticed a decrease in performance when overclocking the cpu/nb and ht link, if i increase fsb at all i get slower mem writes and reads and even tried downclocking the ram but its still the same result, if you just use multi and vcore you do get better performance so you are correct sir. I have the Gigabyte 990fx gaming motherboard and a fx8350(built it 2 years ago)@ 4.8ghz with a 1.38v under load. the chip was prime95 stable at 4.6 with a vcore of 1.35v. this is the highest I've had the chip and I'm actually running aida64 right now to make sure it's stable, but I think I'm going to see how high it will go.

But thing is raising to that my CPU NB volts go to 1.400v straight from 1.165v all with the auto settings in the digi+. I only overclocked at 4.3ghz using multiplier only with everything on stock and only CPU LLC to High. So, my question is, are the CPU NB volts 1.400v fine for 2400 or should I lower the voltage manually for reducing heating??

I have a Crosshair V Formula Z, no issues. I can OC my chip to 4.5Ghz Easily with 1.4V. Thought my temps are accurate to my scenario, its not practical for everyone. And yes, im using air cooling. Dont remember the name, but its a huge heatsink with 2 fans on it. Idle temps are (and only because my room stays very cool) Are between 16c-22c. Load temps hit around 40-45c. Stress temps start around 45c, then climb their way to 55c-60c. The VRMs never go above 55c though. Exactly how safe is it to take my processor to 1.5V? because a 4.7Ghz OC only gives minor, and I mean MINOR increase in Single Threaded performance. And we all know thats the key to a good processor. Though its minor, it would add up. Also, I only hit a 4.7Ghz at 1.4V with some cores disabled. Windows read it at 2 cores, 4 Logical processors. But with 4/8, anything above 4.5Ghz can barely boot. Need more vcore, and im terrified to blow up my one "ok" processor.

I have the same board, and when I tried to overclock my FX 8350 I could not, for the life of me, get the voltage to stick. I admittedly jumped the gun at the core clock, but anyway, I started at 4.4 GHZ at 1.38 volts. when I was monitoring temps in HWINFO and CPU-Z I saw the Vcore spike up to 1.5V. Any chance you'd be able to tell me what I'm missing? I had the voltage set to manual, and I tried changing around the LLC but I couldn't get the voltage to stay put, so now I'm stock again.
@dGCyanide496 жыл бұрын
I've ran mine at 1.5V before no problems. My only issue was that my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5) did not have LLC so I had wicked voltage drops. As long as you have good cooling you'll be fine. I did a custom loop and I run any where between 30-40 on load. Just keep in mind, the FX-8350 has a shutdown at 70c to protect from heat damage. So if under load and creeping past 62c or so, back it off a bit. At max load, try keep it under 60c.

@NickSanto7 жыл бұрын
Those temps are little high. What are you using to monitor? First thing is to make sure is those temps are even accurate. Also, what did you overclock to? I am at 4.7 right now with 1.4125 volts and my idle temp is 25 on the CPU and 38 on the socket. At full load they go to 61/70 and that's about as hot as I personally like to let it get. You voltage could be too high or CPU block not seated correctly? Could be a number of things.
@jeremyphipps7777 жыл бұрын
That's WAY too high, considering the max allowable temperature for an FX8350 is 61C. Better forget about it. 1. 8350 is not the best FX model for overclocking. It has decent performance already and you will not be able to gain really meaningful improvement. (Going from 4000 MHz to 4600 is only 12.5% increase) 2. Your motherboard has ancient 760G chipset. It's will not allow decent overclocking like 970 or even better 990 chipset. 3. What are you trying to achieve by OC'ing? If you want to improve game performance, it will be better to OC you RAM and CPU NB instead of CPU (to 2133 and 2500 MHz or even higher)

@@TechFreq my Discord id is koshelenkovv#5840 Though I suspect it won't be easy to help you remotely. OCing CPU will help with purely computational tasks like video processing. In this kind of tasks performance grows linearly with CPU frequency. But it's not of much help in games. Main problem with FX processors in games is freezes and stuttering. OCing RAM and CPU NB helps to reduce it while OCing CPU alone does not help at all with this problem. It will add some FPS, but it kinda pointless. Which kind of RAM do you have? Is it cheap noname RAM sticks, or is it some quality brand? Increasing RAM clock from 1333 to 1866 and CPU NB to 2400-2500 will have bigger effect in games than OCing CPU to 4600Mhz. Though, if you do not experience stuttering and frame drops in the games you play, there is no real reason to overclock.

@@azwris lol. i didn't even want to upgrade my 8350 think it was 4.3 just fine but realized I was in the realm of 40 fps gaming with games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Since I got a ryzen it's so much more enjoyable raw single thread performance
