It may have been launched already, but it's still is 7% faster than I was expecting. The original launch only had it like 5% faster than the 7800xt. The 12% average faster gap actually somewhat justifies it's existence now.

​@@goldenhate6649nah. the only reason it existed in the first place is because of China and the anticipation of cutting down parts to sell there (hence the moniker specific to the Chinese Year conventions) despite AMD not really having restrictions there unlike with NVIDIA and the 4090D. now that GREs didn't really sell very well, those stocks are bleeding into global resale.

I bought one and then bought a 7900XT 2 months later because I was so impressed with the 7800XT performance. I'm using the 7900XT right now but miss using the 7800XT even while using the 7900XT. That says something about how great the 7800XT is.

The GTX 950 and the RX 7900 are vastly different cards in terms of power. Literally anything from the last 2-3 years will blow your card away. Your 950 basically runs video apps and that's about it. The 7900 GRE is 787% more powerful than the GTX 950... Keep in mind your 950 is a 90w TDP while the 7900 GRE is at 260w so you need to ensure you have a 600w+ PSU. Good luck.

Check out the Rx 6600, it'll do fine for 1080p and probably a good idea to wait. From what I understand, they're dropping some pretty serious tech with the next gen, at the moment, Nvidia and amd are trying to ditch their timid incremental COVID slop before they drop the good shit. 6600 should be pretty cheap and has decent price to performance ratio.

Yeah if you have a card faster than the 3070 there is not a great reason to upgrade unless you have $ burning a hole in your pocket. This price segment is pretty good and will hopefully make prices continue to drop though for the people that have cards slower than or equal to the 3070. 4070 Super would be my pick for power efficiency and reflex but everyone has different needs. People that dont need reflex, RT or don't sit in a closed room would probably go AMD.

Yep, imagine those that bought the 7900 xt for the outrageous launch price. But hey, at least they got to play games for quite a time now at 4K with decent frame rates out of the box. No matter what new product one buys now, its certain that there will always be better or more efficient options at some point in the future. But how long one has to wait. I get the feeling some guys are waiting for the 90s and early 2000s sudden jumps due to unique innovation in gaming technology performance/price to performance era coming back somehow. But its not going to come back. 90s and early 2000s was, now its gone. But now is now and there is no revolutionary gpu hardware tech on the horizon that will change everything. Yep, I snagged a like-new 6950XT reference card for $400 last fall and let me tell you I have potentially never felt as justified in a purchase before. Interesting! The other Steve showed their 7900 GRE basically being much more on-part with the 7800XT. I wonder what accounts for the different results? Still not convinced it's worth a 10% price increase over the 7800 XT (and as a 6800 XT user, not enticed to upgrade at all), but I'm hoping that these much more sane pricing trends continue and the 7800 XT will be $450 & the GRE drop to $500 in another 2~3 months.

I think HUB used a reference model or a model with refernce clocks and GN (and Digital Foundry - who were also impressed) used factory overclocked variants, which seems to make a bigger than usual difference due to the huge number of cores and low TDP (it would appear).

Micro Center still has some residual 6950XTs for $550. I was planning on getting one of those but AV1 encoding and a couple extra years of updates in case I want to throw this in an entertainment PC a few years down the road makes it worth the average couple percentage points the 6950XT might have in some titles.

It looks like for those going for a SFFPC, the best option is the 4070 super since it sips power in comparison to the GRE and even 7800XT and in a small build you need less power consumption to reduce heat and consequent noise.

I just ordered the 7900 gre steel legend to replace my 3060ti, sold that to my brother for his itx fractal node build. I wanted a white GPU for my all white PC, this seemed like a decent upgrade give or take for the white look so i went ahead & went for it. I don't care about ray tracing so i'm giving AMD a shot, i was interested in the 4070 ti super, but $900+ after taxes for a white one is crazy to me for that card. Can't wait to try AMD out for the 1st time. If it doesn't work out, I'll get the 4070 ti super later.

The problem is that while in many games gains performance Cyberpunk and Dying Light are pretty much built on RTX libraries which favour Nvidia hardware architecture widely…some games don’t use plain DirectX RayTracing and in those games AMD will always come second…

I have a 7900 XTX OC edition and 30 games on steam with almost 20 on GOG I can tell you that it folds the 4080 like a chair on raster. My brother is my roomate with a 4080 and the only game he has that beats me is Cyber and Alan Wake we play most of the same games. What they don't tell you is with his 4080 Overclocked did not make as much of a diff the 7900 XTX Overclocked slaps those 4080 cheeks.

Truth be told, the real pricing structure for these cards should be this to be good value: 7700xt = $379 7800xt = $449 7900 GRE = $499 7900 XT = $649 7900 XTX = $799 I am sure the cards will get to those prices but these should be the current retail prices and things would be good for AMD. I'll definitely consider snagging a 7900 GRE if it hits the $500 mark. Otherwise, might be on the look out for a 6800XT if I can procure one for around $350. Microcenter did have some 6900XTs for $400 but they sold out quick.

I might still spoil myself and grab the 7900 XT, but if I decide to pinch a few pennies, I'll grab the 7900 GRE. $549 feels like a good price for it compared to the 7800 XT. I like RT in Cyberpunk as much as the next person, but... I play a lot of other games that don't even use RT, or have a good implementation of it.

Personally I have the XTX and the FPS dip I just cannot Personally justify in any game. 60 feels slow and sluggish compared to 120 or more fps

it has been very annoying and frustrating trying to find a successor to my 3080 12gb. Not a whole lot of products are able to justify the price they are being offered for. Also, with an 800w PSU (80+titanium) I only have a few GPUs that i can plug-and-play without being forced to use that god awful 12vhpwr connector, or be forced to find another PSU with the pcie 5.0 rating so i can get a 12vhpwr cable included so as to have less points of failure. Basically, Nvidia priced its own customers out of an upgrade by forcing the 12vhpwr failures onto us. Honestly, I would probably would've purchased a 4080 Super if it weren't for that new POS cable. AMD is looking enticing.

I'd almost given up hope on always recommending "the $500-600" card, and upgrading sooner (2-tiers, so either one gen and one tier, or two gens, same tier) instead of paying $800 for an idea of future proofness. This looks like a great card, and I'm into it's TDP versus it's performance, too. Given its assumed binned nature, I wonder what its undervolted performance would be. I build mITX and custom cooled mITX, so potential for efficiency is always a top priority in my book.

@@audiophizile13 220w is great, but buying Nvidia has become a sorta sketchy endeavor, IMO. I don't think the efficiency boost is worth the premium. I think a 4070S is good for someone who only really goes for the latest AAA titles that'll have good DLSS/RT support, which really isn't me. It's still a good bet for very tight cooling builds though, like squeezing a single 240s capabilities. If that's what I was going for right now, it'd be hard to overlook. I just find Nvidia's SW based planned obsolescence (via FOMO) to be a bit aggravating, even if it only applies to those latest titles, as mentioned. With the HW based planned obsolescence certainly not winning any favor, either.

For the price point it's actually feeling like a decent value. I kind of wonder if the 7900XT and 7900XTX will go down in price against the 7900GRE, because it would really drive in well if the percentage gains from the 7900GRE to the 7900XT and 7900XTX matched the jumps in price.

the reason why the 7700xt and the 7800xt are so close in oerformance is because the 7800xt is actually just a 7800 while the 7900GRE, is just actually an 7800XT. AMD upped one position on naming to justify price increases. Going further, the 7900XT should have just been a 7900 with the 7900XTX should have been just a 7900XT. The prices and performance made more since there.

I just upgraded from RX 6800 to 7900 GRE, not a huge upgrade but it's noticeable, I'm getting ~15-25 more frames in several games allowing me to crank up more settings and such. I read that the 7900 GRE is more OC happy so maybe I'll fiddle with it a bit. Also it's a bit surprising seeing the RTX 4070 perform worse in the benchmarks considering it's ~$150 CAD more than the 7900 GRE right now. I'd fork out for a 4070 Super but I don't have that kind of money atm.

I managed to buy last piece in a local e-shop for a discounted price that was lower then some of the 7800XTs which in this case make it a great value card. Now when they are selling the last bits this card might be very good catch given not many people know about this card and there is low demand for it. I am going to pair it with Ryzen 9 5900X so we'll see how well it's going to perform. But I managed to build this system under 1250 USD in Europe which is - given our higher electrics prices - very solid budget power build.

All models of the 7900gre is sold out at the micro center near me, even the highest priced Sapphire Nitro version. That speaks volumes about the 7900gre!

I picked up one of these (ASRock Challenger edition) for the price of a 7800XT at the start of the year. OC: Undervolt of 90mV stable in all games (could go even lower in some titles). I run mine with a slightly reduced power limit. Clocks run between 2400MHz (e.g. Witcher3 on ultra +) and 2700MHz (e.g. Assassins Creed Odyssey). Memory clock: this seems to be where AMD has 'pinched' the card: limited to max 66MHz extra. Overall a great performer for the money, reacts really well to undervolting.
