I ended up going with a 6800xt/5900x and almost a year in its been fantastic. I didn't much care for ray tracing than and can't say I do today, not yet at least since it feels like an afterthought and the performance cost is high. Upscaling tech is nice but if I'm going to build a high end rig I want it to do it natively first not only because I prefer native resolution but technologies like dlss and fsr aren't in every game whereas rasterized performance is universal. What's important at the end of the day is building the build you want based on your preferences and this is mine. Its what pc gaming is mostly about in my eyes.

RT to me, is NOT a big deal! And I am not the only one that feels this way. It doesn't make a difference to me. I can't tell when RT is on or off. And for it to consume so much FPS is mindblowing! Reminds me of my ex gf. She loved those extra FPS! LOL
@raven36963 жыл бұрын
Because the implementation of RT for some of the games that support it are subpar. Cyberpunk and Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition (and the upcoming game, Bright Memory Infinite) are the best examples of games where RT sees a difference when turned on (and yes, a difference in FPS too). An example of subpar implementation of RT is maybe with Doom Eternal. It has ray traced reflections, but how many times are you going to notice that with the limited number of reflective surfaces and with the extremely fast pacing of the game? And any game that only has ray traced shadows are practically gonna show no difference so when I heard that CoD was only getting ray traced shadows, I immediately lost interest lmfao. RT lighting, GI, shadow and reflections combined will show the most difference, but a lot of the time those games are only using one or two of those, hence why there's not many differences that can be seen.

Your PC seems good enough. Maybe it's just a software issue, or even full hard disks can cause performance drop. If i were you, i would first reinstall windows and completely format the hard drives, install all the needed drivers and update everything, optimize the settings for best visuals and performance. If it still stutters, only then i would look for new parts. Also it may be getting too hot in your PC, maybe you have dust in the fans. I saw a vid on Moore's Law channel about a month ago. Part of it talked about ray-tracing and the price of it. Apparently there is a new form of global illumination coming along, which works like ray tracing. However it doesn't have the massive perormance hit of ray-tracing. ... Apparently the performance hit of ray-tracing is because the rasterisation is done first. (At which point a non-ray-traced image would be complete and displayed.) Then the ray-tracing is laid over the top of the image. Hence the frame rate drop. The new or more advanced form of global illumination, works like ray-tracing but is baked into the image. It's done at the same time as the creation of the image. ... It was in one of those talky vids that Moore's Law does where he talks to a guest. On this occasion is was a game-developer who was in conversation.

Well everything is bit of a mess now in the world of Gpu's, but it is really depending on which usecase the end-user has in terms of choosing the right Gpu. If you are a contentcreator fulltime who desperately needs to shave off seconds or minutes in rendering work in order to upload the latest video on youtube as fast as possible, team green is propably your best choice.However if you are a the kind of contentcreator who press "start render" and takes off eating lunch,dinner, taking a shower, and whatnot, and simply upload the video when you get back, you might as well save a few dollars and go team red.Both teams gets the job done. As for upscaling tech, DLSS is in my opinion not quite worth the premium, especially since FSR and XeSS will be implemented to basically "all" games in the near future.Unreal Engine is also working on their own upscaling tech. In the games where high Fps is needed, you will typically no matter what, reduce graphics settings to get better latency as higher settings (even with DLSS on) will introduce a latency penalty, and most often a stutter here and there. Which encoder for streaming/capturing to use, doesn't really mean much, as they are basically all equal.Nvidia uses slightly lower bandwith than AMD at the same quality, and modern Cpu's (with enough cores/threads) will do an even better job most of the time. As for the normal user, who typically uses a 1080p or 1440p monitor and plays a mix of singleplayer, first person shooter, and so on, i think team red could give you a slight benefit with more Vram, and better aging down the line in terms of driver updates and such (Rdna1 has increased performance by quite a bit since launch, so Rdna2 should propably be no different). In the end it's all about the price, as a normal user would not be able to say THIS is Nvidia or THIS is AMD, in a blind test. Most people won't even notice if Raytracing is turned on or off during gameplays(except lower fps). Get the card with the most Vram (Gddr6/6x) at the best price possibly, and you will have a blast. Nothing is worse than playing on a capable card but due to low Vram buffer, it gives you teleportation ingame.

@@kaonbunay456 For 1080p resolution it should be just fine in most cases.1440p or higher resolutions benefit from more Vram. You can still play games even with half a Gb of Vram, but when the games requires more videomemory and the gpu can't offer more, it simply switches to using the memory of your cpu (aka Ram).That will most of the time not be a good experience tho, because of the much much slower ram.

I'm wondering has nvidia finally caught up in color and contrast it's a huge deal to me. All people think about is detail. All of these have amazing image quality I'm just more into and sensitive to color/contrast or I should say perceived contrast.

This isn't back I'm the 2000 series lol. Those had issues and you would have to go in and change thw color space. It would fix it by putting it where it should be. We'll now it's that way out of the box. You can see by going into the internal settings. If you notice my comment was from 10 months ago. Even my 30 series was fixed after I made this comment I got one and now onto the 40 series lol.

Sure, if you’re an idiot. AMD cards have about HALF the ray tracing performance and ZERO DLSS support, which is the best AI-powered real-time resolution upscaling technology ever invented. I know what I’m talking about. I have an RTX 3090 FE. And even with the better ray tracing performance and DLSS, some ultra-heavy games barely play around 70fps on my card with RT and 4k. But if you had a 6900 XT, forget about it, you’d be stuck around 20fps.

If your a Mac Pro owner or Intel MacBook with an eGPU enclosure, unfortunately AMD is the only choice if you want to be able to use it from within MacOS. The upside is second hand Mac Pro specific MPX modules aren't as overinflated on price as standard off the shelf GPUs right now. I haven't looked since the beginning of 2022 but it was bonkers that I can get NEW Mac specific AMD MPX GPU for my machine directly from Apple at MSRP cheaper than I could for a new generic off the shelf GPU. And used ones are priced accordingly because only other Mac Pro owners can get in the value of used Mac Pro cards. I got a good deal on a used card upgrade. They don't get bought up and scalped for resale or hoarded for mining like off the shelf ones.
