The last Spectre was a great improvement. They just had to put the Lunar Lake SOC in that. Instead they ditched a USB A, and made the speakers bottom firing... At least it's smaller

The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 seems like a winner to me! Everything about is great and I have no negative comments to make really when it comes to this one. I like how clear the webcam and audio quality are. The 2.8K Touch OLED display is simply gorgeous and the speaker quality is fine. The keyboard and touchpad are also great! A bummer for some is the lack of the SD Card reader, HDMI port as well as USB-A. It's probably just a sign of the times as we're dealing now with USB-C more and more. Thank you again Andrew for your very thorough review! 👍😁

As a spectre 2023 (i7-1355u) owner, I do appreciate that the new device has much longer battery life, 120hz screen, and much better gpu performance. However, I am not satisfied with the missing USB-A port, and the downgraded multi-core performance is not a good thing, even if it's not hp's fault. As a student, I'm not going to buy this one, but if I am rich, this is good to replace my 2023 device.

It's a nice looking device, but the battery life is pretty disappointing when you compare it to the other Lunar Lake laptops and the price is pretty steep for what it is.

Nice computer. Camera mics and speakers are good. Display is good. Agree that the Spectre naming convention was better. These manufacturers name these computers with similar names make it very confusing for the buying public. Taking the USB A port off was a mistake. It seems like everytime HP comes out with a new model something gets removed. If this trend continues eventually when one buys a new computer all they will get is an empty box. Who knows maybe the next version they will not include the power brick. Anyway anothet great review.

While I agree they shouldn't have removed the USB-A port, to be fair, they did add an additional USB-C port to the other side of the laptop. This means you can now charge the laptop from either side. I like this because I hate how most laptops have their USB-C charging ports on the same side.

The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 seems to be an excellent option to replace my HP Spectre x360 15” (2017 model). It’s one inch smaller, but I don’t think that will be an issue. The integrated Intel graphics are okay too. I have my PS5 and Switch for gaming. Never used the HDMI port on my current laptop, I have a USB-A to USB-C dongle and I also have a SD card reader (rarely used these days). 16GB of RAM is more than enough for me and I’m sure it will go on sale at Best Buy. I’ll probably get it early next year.

Thanks for buying this laptop. I think that the removal of USB A is a mistake. There are still lots of USB A devices out there. Also, I really wish they kept the top firing speakers. Battery life is an improvement, but not competitive for a Lunar Lake compared to contemporary laptops. Overall, I'd say this is only a laptop that I think should be bought on sale.

Getting 75% of the battery life of the Asus Zenbook while having 89% of the battery isn't a great outcome, and they both have a 120hz OLED. Sure, it's the best convertible lunar lake (by virtue of being the only one); that doesn't mean we can't judge it for where it falls short.

Even with the laptop plugged into the grid, and with power settings set to never go to sleep, when I leave the laptop to generate an mp4 file from a video (which may take an hour), as soon as I leave the laptop and Windows Hello locks the screen, the machine goes into sleep mode and halts generation of the mp4 file -- until I'm back and Windows Hello unlocks the screen. Looks great. Excellent video camera and good sound. Personally, I'd go for the 32 GB version. Being a full size SSD, I assume it is possible to fit a 4-8 TB disk in it, too? Even if HP doesn't sell it with such large disks? Comparing the Flip with the Lenovo Yoga 7i Aura edition, it seems to have a considerably better web camera + can be used as a tablet. The Lenovo has much better battery life though (except for gaming...). Compared to the Omnibook Ulltra w/ Strix Point, I'm surprised that the Strix Point had considerably better performance and virtually ties the Lunar Lake version wrt. graphics + has comparable battery life (but simpler screen). To me, the USB C 3.2 seems like a waste -- I assume it can not be used for charging? And... I *do* hope that this Flip has fixed the bug with the Dragonfly G3 that I have -- initially, if I used another USB charger than the HP charger that came with the machine, the Dragonfly disabled the possibility to charge... and I had to reset the Dragonfly G3 (press-holding the power button for a minute or so). They have fixed it now.

Personally, can't blame HP for the sensible design choices made here. Drop-jaw USB-A ports are annoying to use (I've owned several HP laptops with them). The Omnibook Flip is also considerably thinner than the Spectre, and the squared off profile of a laptop like the Zenbook S 14 would be uncomfortable to use in tablet mode. Let's be honest, USB-A is a deprecated format invented back in the 90s, and a cheap dongle can provide legacy support when needed. Regarding the position of the speakers, I often shut my laptops when they're plugged to a docking station with a monitor; top-firing speakers get blocked by the screen and sound muffled. Same thing happens when any clamshell convertible like the Spectre is laid down in tablet mode on a hard surface. The bottom-firing speakers set along chamfered edges never get fully blocked and are a more sensible design choice in a clamshell convertible chassis. Regarding the name. Well ya, can't deny Spectre sounded a lot better lol. The should have stuck with "New Spectre" or something similar to delineate the new design. 😅
