@@itshugh6750 I've actually been curious about this as someone who has recently been going down the kickboxing rabbit hole, watching old k-1 and glory stuff. I've noticed a clear hate towards Rico Verhoeven in KZbin/Instagram comments always calling him a fake champion or that he doesn't have a legit legacy, but I don't understand why, maybe they have a nuanced point to be made somewhere but I haven't had anyone explain it to me. As a side note, the Turkish/Moroccan/Middle-East kickboxing fans seem to have an equal amount of support for their fighters as they have a hate for Rico in specific it seems.

@@md-lq8fgIt's twofold. One, K1 is seen as the golden days of kickboxing, a level of greatness not seen today. Rico became the king after those golden days, but he did not have the chance to beat any great fighter in his prime. So it has been impossible for him to prove that he really, truely is as good or better than Schilt, Bonjansky, Crocop, Aerts and the other legends. No matter how many current fighters he defeats, the nostalgics will never believe he is the best. Secondly, the Moroccan community loves to conflate the sport with masculitnity and a gangster image. Rico refuses to conform to that image by being polite, respectful and white. He reinforces that by getting kids and women involved in the sport and being generally a nice person. They literally hate that niceness

As a moroccan I have full respect to rico. He is humble great sportmanship and down to earth champ. He deserves it. Badr hari lost was kinda harsh to me tbh but badr hari carreer is already legendary just like mike tyson. He just need to retire to keep his legacy. Rico is about to make his own now too.
