FINALLY!!! Someone tells Owen off. I get that Teddy screwed up, but Owen always fails to recognize his own failings. 1. He fell in love with Teddy WHILE being engaged to Beth 2. He never told Beth when he was discharged from the Army. He allowed her to suffer, and worry over him, never telling her that he fell out of love with her and in love with Teddy...then Cristina. 😞 3. The biggest mistake of all; he cheated on Christina. 4. He divorced Amelia after her tumor, strung her along making her fall in love with him all over again, and then runs to Teddy, leaves Teddy, then plays house with Amelia for a year. 5. Keeps telling Amelia he wants her when it's clear he's still in love with Teddy, after she comes back pregnant with his baby. Amelia was always cast as the screw-up and black sheep of the cast but she always owned up to her mistakes and she has never backed down from her responsibilities. Owen has always cast himself as the Martyr and good guy but he's screwed up as much as Teddy and Koracick have. Amelia really stepped up as a friend for Teddy, AND to Owen telling him like it is. He may have been bothered by the fact that she lied, but there's also a part of him that resents the fact that Teddy's heart was never completely his. Amelia really shined tonight.

Honestly, since Link entered Amelia's life, I've begun realizing how toxic Owen's behaviour could be and how toxic he could turn relationships, for exactly the reasons you listed - his inability to recognize his own failings and own up to them, instead projecting his blame onto others... it has cost him a lot. Showing Owen that he was capable of hurting other's when he suffered from an immense amount of distress was necessary because he behaved like an ass with holier than thou attitude in this situation. Owen got better in part because Christina met him with empathy and forgiveness instead of rejecting him. Trauma responses are complicated and to meet those with a punitive attitude is not constructive.

The problem with Owen though is that he convinces himself and others that he already forgave them when in fact he didn't. Remember how he was "accepting" about Cristina's decision to terminate the pregnancy after throwing a fit in season 8? Then he always throws that in during their later fights? He never forgets nor totally forgives.

He had no choice but to "agree" with Christina's decision. They made him out to be this asshole who was forcing a pregnancy onto Christina and convinced him it would be "selfish" that HE was being selfish by wanting to keep his kid. Owen was NEVER okay with Christina getting that abortion and any idiot watching the show should know that. It was all "oh you know Christina never wanted kids so it would be selfish to make her have this kid, she doesn't want to be a mom!" Maybe I was the only one like are you serious? If that was the case everybody and their mom knew Owen WANTED children and always wanted children so how selfish is it to tell him "hey I know I'm pregnant with your kid but I don't want to be a mom and it's my body and my decision so you have no choice but to accept the fact that I'm having an abortion to get rid of your kid and you don't get to be upset about that because again, my body my choice". Smh...people kill me acting like he was wrong for being upset. Or acting like he really had a choice in her decision. They made him out to be an asshole either way but in that whole situation I'm on Owen's side. He had no choices all of them were taken away from him. So he had to adapt to the situation and just accept it.

However the person who's comment I responded to was talking about Owen being wrong for being upset about the abortion. Which is what I responded to in my comment THAT whole situation was NOT on Owen. He even half panicked when she told him and was like I thought you were on birth control to avoid this whole issue. So YES it was on Christina just as much as Owen! She was NOT innocent. Not even a little. She couldn't stay away from him either. I said Owen was NOT at fault OR in the wrong for being upset about losing his kid! Which he was NOT! Everybody acts like he should have just accepted that (which he had no choice but to find a way to accept it) and had no reason to be angry. As a matter of fact him, cristina and Teddy were I a surgery together when he found out she didn't want kids and she found out he did. That whole conversation about them not being together because he wanted kids was when Meredith went into labor which was after they had divorced and gotten back together.

@@alysianna05 I agree that it was both their faults but it was more Owen's, of course he could be upset but the way he went about everything was horrible. He acted as if he was going to support her (he held her hand during the abortion) and then everything was normal afterwards between them and then four months later he literally screamed at her infront of all of their friends "you killed my baby don't you ever forget that", and as if that wasn't enough he then stopped talking to her for weeks and then he proceeded to cheat on her, whereas he should have just sat down and talked to her instead of freezing her out completely. In addition, Cristina was always clear whereas Owen was not. Cristina literally said to him "I don't want kids" and he never objected or said I do want kids he just kept everything to himself and thought he could change her. I agree though that Cristina could have also walked away but didn't, im not pissed at Owen for wanting a kid but she gave him so many opportunities to walk away and he didn't and in my opinion cheating is always wrong so if he was that angry at her he should have just asked for a divorce - btw I don't mean this to sound aggressive or anything, I just couldn't think of another way to put it, its. just my opinion ;)

@@Book_Dragon2562 Trauma isn't just trauma, each trauma is different and each response to that trauma is different, just because you've experienced trauma doesn't mean you've experienced this trauma, and even if you have it doesn't mean you experienced it in the same way or reacted to it the same way. No one is excusing Teddy's behavior, you misinterpret the show and if you think that. The purpose of these past several episodes with Teddy is that knowing your past is how you move on from it, and Teddy would never face her own truth which just kept ruining her life more and more every time she tried to be happy. Several character on this show have had a similar revelation, this is actually not a new story idea for Grey's it's just a new twist on it. And no one is exploiting trauma, they are acknowledging that people have trauma and that keeping it inside does this to a person. If you were able to deal with trauma and not hurt anyone in the process, then good for you, not bad for everyone else who wasn't able to.

They repeatedly have characters do terrible things and then reveal some deep tragic trauma to redeem said character. I didn’t misunderstand or misinterpret this pattern of irresponsible writing on the show’s part. Nor am I saying that I was somehow a perfect victim who never hurt anyone with my trauma. Of course I did. We all did. The difference is I recognize that me hurting doesn’t excuse causing others pain. Whether I intended it or not, whether I was aware or not, that damage is real and that person has to live with it. They have every right to deny me forgiveness, closure, or anything else. I have no right to ask them for anything, and even less so to expect or demand it.

@@javenlovelol2177 teddy really is the victim though. when Owen cheats on Christina no one in the hospital was giving him the side eye or look at him with disappointment, same as with Amelia. when Owen and Amelia was playing house then teddy shows up pregnant, no one doesn’t even bat an eye. but when teddy cheats on Owen the whole hospital has something to say and she is bashed for doing this horrible thing to Owen and everyone hates her. Owen should forgive her because he should understand and not bash her like everyone else. at least Owen had someone to talk to. teddy felt alone and on top that the whole coronavirus and meridith on the vent and deluca dying, she just felt alone in all this.

Also he may have cheated in his last relationships but he didn’t in this one and that’s the whole picture everyone seems to forget. They have KIDS together, when she did what she did she wasn’t just cheating on him but their children. He doesn’t have to forgive her bc he never did anything wrong to her. She finally got him after years of trying to get him out of his marriages and being with her just to cheat is weird. Yes, Owen is toxic & needs to get over his anger issues, & yes, traumatized people shouldn't be demonized for the harm they inadvertently inflict on others. That being said, the people who are hurt by traumatized people have no obligation to participate in their abuser's recovery. Owen wouldn't be wrong to prioritize his own mental & emotional wellbeing by maintaining his distance from Teddy. Owen taking care of himself wouldn't mean that he hates her or wants anything less than the best for her. Forgiveness does not necessarily mean that you will recommit to a broken relationship (nor should it). Also, Owen was right. Amelia was making a false equivalency. Owen's trauma response was done in his sleep. Teddy chose to lie for a really long time.

In my opinion Henry loved Teddy wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Kinda dissapointed they didn't address how his death impacted Teddy more considering that Teddy is a widow and that she lost her husband in the same hospital she now works. To Owen, Teddy always came 2nd, he always chose other people over her, 1st with Christina then with Amelia. He kept stringing her along after choosing other people over her time and time again. Teddy's first love Alison was also involved with someone else before and during their relationship. What they had was an Affair. Teddy lost her parents then found love with Allison. She lost Allison and then ran to the Army where she met Owen. She 'lost' Owen to Christina so the ran to Henry (who loved her completely). She lost Henry so she ran to Germany and then Owen followed her there (after Amelia told him to) and Teddy thought someone she had loved for years finally saw her and had chosen her only to find out that no less than 24hours ago he had slept with his ex-wife who told him to pursue her. Understandably it hurt a lot and just when she was starting to move on she finds out that she's pregnant with Owen's baby and that she's alone so of course she ran back to Seattle only to find that Owen and Amelia were back together and raising a family. Owen finds out about the baby and chooses to stick with Amelia whom he declares he can't be without only for him to act all jealous when he realizes that Teddy might be moving on with Tom Koracick (who despite appearances is a great guy btw). So Owen and Amelia break up... all the while Owen confuses the hell out of Teddy who for some reason chooses to get back together with Owen (who never chooses her) and leave Tom (who always puts her first and considers her feelings and well-being all the time). So now Owen finds out that Amelia may be pregnant with his baby and Teddy now understandably panics (given her history with Owen choosing other people over her) and goes/runs back to Tom (who loves her unconditionally). Teddy cheating on Owen was wrong, so very wrong but I understand why she did it. It was selfish yes but what this episode showed and Amelia underscored so eloquently is that Teddy never took the time to grieve the loss of her parents, Allison (and Henry) and that she's dealing with PTSD which has affected her relationships and decisions she has made in her personal life. I truly hope that now that she (Teddy) is aware of it, she can get the help she so desperately needs. In my opinion her and Owen don't work as a couple and it would be healthier for her to move on from that relationship and maybe go back to being friends. Also, can we talk about how selfless, empathetic and amazing Amelia is. She's a great person. So grounded and understanding. Owen really messed that up. They would have had something great. Glad that Amelia is finally happy again with Linc.

Why do I feel like they did this whole trauma thing with Teddy just to make Owen seem like he’s the bad guy for being upset that she cheated on him a couple days before they were supposed to get married? I feel like we only did this so that they could give Owen a solid reason to forgive Teddy. It was crappy there’s no way to salvage Teddy‘s character. And literally all of you a couple months ago were saying how terrible Teddy’s character awful was and how even though you don’t like Owen or not you feel a bad for him. Cheating is a terrible thing end it can mess with somebody self-esteem their Self-Security. And make them feel like they’re worthless and not even worthy of being loved. Owen should forgive Teddy in his own time. Nobody should have to tell him oh just forgive her.
