I’ve been to Lake Compounce and ridden Boulder Dash during its peak operating time as well as when it still had the triple up. And I have to say that it’s an elite coaster. When it warms up, the entire ride is extremely forceful with some excellent laterals and sustained airtime on almost every hill. It could be smoother, but I think the bumpiness adds to the experience because of how well the ride maintains its speed. The uncontrollable feeling throughout is truly surreal.
@MattMcIrvin2 жыл бұрын
The last time I rode Boulder Dash (in early August) it was still an overwhelming experience, but it had gotten so rough that I wasn't sure it was overwhelming in a good way. It's jackhammering disturbingly hard these days--I think they need to do something about it. I noticed that people seemed to be coming off of it very quiet. The forces are good but to me, thinking about it after my most recent ride, the highlight isn't so much the airtime as the laterals on the turnaround and the positives in the valleys on the return run. I still rate it high but with an asterisk, so to speak--for what it was in the past, and the potential of what it could be if they clean it up.
@jstarASMR31032 жыл бұрын
Recently visited Knoebels, and I can tell the single only bit of airtime you get on Twister is on the last little bunny hop hill before returning to the station. And funny enough, you get that airtime in the front row! Other than that, yeah this ride isn't meant for airtime, rather, for the speed and the other forces. I still love the coaster, but like you, am always itching for some airtime when riding it!
@CoasterCrest3 жыл бұрын
I was just at Busch Gardens Tampa for my first time a week ago, and Kumba was my favorite coaster there! Montu is a pretty close #2, and the 2 of them are probably my favorite B&Ms that aren't hypers, gigas, or flyers, but still, #2. Kumba is just so fast, its incredible. The vertical loop gives me an odd sensation of "butterflies in my stomach" every time, especially toward the back. I don't even really get that feeling from any other coasters anymore, so it is odd. Then, the zero-g roll is absolutely fantastic, and gives whippy airtime coming down from it. Kumba next tears through the cobra roll at breakneck speeds before reaching the MCBR. the corkscrews are alright, and then the tunnel is really cool - AND THEN YOU CAN REACH OUT AND TOUCH THE GRASS to your right!!! How cool is that??? With its recent re-paint, it also looks absolutely gorgeous, and the setting is overall cool. Plus, I like how it has a floor to rest my feet on, as opposed to inverts and floorless coasters that drag my legs down and create an uncomfortable pressure on my thighs, probably cutting off a bit of bloodflow to my lower legs.
@triton61273 жыл бұрын
Great video! I say I’ve ridden about half of the coasters on your list. I agree with a lot and there were a few that made me go, “Wait... people actually like that coaster??” I found when I disagreed, it was because of one of two things - One, (which you mentioned) is the atmosphere. I love a coaster that takes you out into the woods or gives you some cool scenery to look at. And two, most of these I rode when they first debuted (such as Batman: The Ride at SFGA). Those experiences are unforgettable! And even when I ride a Batman clone today, I still get that memory of the first time. Granted they may be tame by today’s standards, but there’s still something about that Maiden Voyage! Thanks again for making such a great channel!

Honestly, even if you don't really like laterals that much, you can still understand that Twister at Knoebels compliments the Phoenix perfectly. They are like polar opposites, one throws you out of your seat, while the other squishes you down. I've had times on the Twister when I couldn't keep my hands up due to the intense positive G's. And the laterals after you roll off each chain lift into the corners, you feel like you'll fall off the ride (in a good way). For such a small park, they have such a good selection of rides. Give the Twister another shot, it's at it's best on a dry summer night.👍

Disagree with your take on Mind Bender. I’ve ridden it somewhere in between 50-100 times over the past 11 years (SFOG is my home park). It’s my favorite ride in the park, also our Batman is the best from what I hear. Short but sweet. I’m not a fan of the soft redo they have done to our Gotham City either. Some of that classic Burton-esque atmosphere is gone in favor of generic and minimalistic signage and cramming carnival rides into the plaza instead of actually tearing down the axis theater for addition that could be used in that space.

I was a very new enthusiast at the time and my opinion will likely change with re-rides. Hulk is fun, and the first 2 elements are great, but it's pretty forceless. After the first 4 inversions it honestly becomes somewhat boring, at least when I rode it. As for Hades, I just think people really overhype it. It's intense with a couple good airtime moments, but that's really it. The tunnel does almost nothing despite the cool elements it has in there, and while the ride is very intense (especially with the roughness adding to it), nothing except the drop out of the station in the back and the out of control factor left me feeling "Wow"

I went into this list not expecting, but thinking about the 1 coaster I think is overrated, and it surprised me to see it as #1! Kumba is forceful and fun, has a cool layout, looks really nice, and has tunnels, but it gave me a headache. This was my first time experiencing the infamous B&M Rattle, and oh boy it made my neck hurt a few days after, so I unfortunately didn't enjoy the forcefulness of Kraken, Mako, Montu, or Tigris as much as I would have otherwise. Still a good ride, but it should be fixed to be smoother. And yes, it's layout isn't amazing either. #4 at the park for me, behind Tigris, Montu, and Cheetah Hunt, and close to Cobra's Curse.

Kinda.. it's definitely a really good ride, but I guess I can agree if you specifically mean the airtime. Here's mine: Apocalypse at Magic Mountain. And I blame Taylor from CS for this one. He had it at #3, as well as knowing the retrack that was recently done. The general sentiment I've also heard was it was a really good coaster and one of the best. I finally got on it, I didn't find any of the crazy airtime I heard it had, and that thing rattled my bones to hell and back. The layout is still good for the crazy intensity and laterals, but I cannot see this going over WCR and ESPECIALLY Tatsu and WW FOC.

I just wanted to comment on Twister at Knoebels. Hershey Park is my home park (pass holders this year) but we also frequent Knoebels. I would suggest the preference for Twister over Phoenix or other coasters would come down to what the individual rider prefers. I would guess as Airtime Thrills, Phoenix is way higher rated for you. I personally like Twister better than Phoenix, but my wife prefers Phoenix over Twister. My wife, like you, likes the air time, and feeling of floating off of the seats, etc. I prefer the speed feel with the banked turns and G's. Both are great for different reasons, and obviously for someone looking for Airtime..... not all coasters will hit that mark. Happy riding!

I’m probably gonna get death threats from this but Ghostrider felt like just an average, mediocre woodie to me. To be fair, I’ve only rode it once in 2011, long before the GCI retrack. And I got a bug in my eye on the first turn-around, so the remainder of the ride was excruciating pain and trying to get it out while being tossed around by laterals. I really need to get back to Knotts to see if I can get a better ride.

Usually I blast Lightning Racer in the comments it's slow and boring. It is not forceless however. The airtime is few and far between but is mostly floater. My overrated picks are Magnum and (I know this one is definitely not a popular opinion) Twisted Timbers. Magnum’s first half is pretty uninteresting, and the turnaround has some pretty uncomfortable banking. I accidentally rode in the magic row during my last visit to CP before I knew that it was a thing, and the violent airtime at the end was so uncomfortable for me that I didn’t even think about riding it a second time. For TT, I rode it less than a month after SV, so I think that comparison being fresh in my mind may have hurt how I see it. I’m not really a fan of the smaller outer banked turns (I have the same problem with wicked cyclone), but the triple camelbacks were very good, I just wasn’t super moved by the rest of the ride.

Magnum can definitely be rough depending on the conditions, but I can't see it being overrated considering the lines... I'd say at Cedar Point Magnum is the best ride/wait ratio as even on crowded days you can ride Magnum with a 15-30 minute wait vs hours for the other big rides. Nobody is going to Cedar Point to ride Magnum anymore, but if you're there it's still a great ride. it's usually my warmup ride at park opening and you can often ride it with no wait several times as everyone goes to stand around and wait for other rides to open.
