Thank you. I grew up in one of the Chinatowns, in fact a block from wheee you filmed. 9 of us in a 2 bedroom apartment. Tourists used to stop my sister and me in the streets when we were little to take photos of us. Life was not easy but everything sure looks beautiful when watching your video. I was lucky to visit all the Chinatowns you went to. I would love to go back to New York to feast.

I visited Chicago's Chinatown! I loved it. Videos like this help you realize even more so why we have to do our part to preserve these historic neighborhoods. Philadelphia Chinatown currently is facing a battle for it's survival. Thank you for this timeless video.

Being a Chinese American who grew up and still live in Chinatown, I have to say this is the best America's Chinatown video I have ever seen. It is the most thorough in history, story of struggle and success, and each Chinatown's uniqueness. I like to give you my most sincere respect for creating this wonderful video.

great video and thanks for sharing the history of our chinatowns. Unfortunately many are crumbling, disappearing, and gentrifying as chinese businesses spread out in the cities and you can get good chinese food and groceries in many other places.

Nice video! Always enjoyed our trips to San Francisco’s Chinatown, and I have at least sampled some of the Oakland, NYC, Philadelphia and Washington DC Chinatowns (with LA’s on the list to visit). I’ve also sample the Chinatowns of Singapore, Yangon (Myanmar) and Bangkok, with Bangkok’s being perhaps the most interesting, particularly when exploring amid its numerous street markets, atmospheric narrow alleyways, fascinating temples & shrines, and its busy main drag of Yaowarat Road.

I would love to check out some of the Chinatowns outside of the states. I’ve seen some of those in video and can only imagine how fun of an adventure it is. I’ve visited the Chinatown in Amsterdam which was a smaller section. But would love to make a video in the future across the globe.

This was very cool to watch. I'm a lifelong Philadelphia resident and always enjoy visiting & eating in Chinatown. The 1st protest I ever attended was against the 1st time a stadium was being proposed for the area on 8 June 2000. I believe the current attempt at building another one must be protested against like other large business proposals before that would have eliminated parts of this amazing & historic part of American and global life. I look forwards to visiting those west coast Chinatowns when I travel Los Angeles & San Francisco. Are there plans to do video on Chinatowns globally at some point?
@JoseOnTour2 жыл бұрын
Thank You for the great comment Ivy. The minute I heard about the mew stadium I thought the same thing. I think they want to place it in around where the 1970s protest occurred. They really want the 76ers downtown but i think its fine in the outskirts. I actually filmed a Chinatown sequence in Costa Rica which has a big section. I might do a globally one day as the channel grows.
@IvyANguyen2 жыл бұрын
@@JoseOnTour From what I understand it's a 2-part thing: 76ers rent the stadium they now play in from the Flyers & Comcast, so they want their own stadium. Fair enough. My problem is their choice of location. Honestly anywhere other than the existing Sports Complex area in South Philly will result in existing neighbourhoods getting damaged. I think it's great that Philly is one city that put all the stadia in the same place rather than confusingly scattering them all over like other cities do. We shouldn't mess it up now by building one where very few people want one at. About Chinatown here, it used to be larger before the Vine Street expressway but since then is now only a 2x3-block rectangle area (8th to 11th, Vine to Filbert, centred on 10th & Race).
@JoseOnTour2 жыл бұрын
As we speak about this I went to see a Mets vs Phillies game at citified which is right in the neighborhood and what a nightmare. I immediately thought about the stadium in Philly and wish it would stay where its at. I 100% agree that Philly has the best placement for arenas

Although I have not watched this video, it's very informative, in the fact that the producer's took a very long historical search in the America's,archives of the 1st Chinese people who came to this very different country, and in doing so,Jose does a very excellent job of it's Presentation of the many parts of American cultural history, he makes mention of the original Chinatown in San Francisco, but because I am 4th generation from Honolulu Hawaii, the Chinatown in Honolulu is very small, I have visited the Chinatown in San Francisco, although very hilly,it's also very small, LA'S ,Chinatown is also very small, CHICAGO'S, Chinatown is also very small, Boston, WASHINGTON DC, Chinatown is very small, and the Philly Chinatown doesn't really, exist, but by in large, the largest Chinese community exists in NEW YORK STATE, lower MANHATTAN, as many of the older Chinese people are dying, the newer CHINESE/AMERICAN generations have emerged, like me, but I have never forgotten my Roots ,to this Great Nation. I do frequently visit Chinatown in MANHATTAN, but to a certain degree, it has changed, culturally No,historical NO, but with time, things Change, this is by far the best video I have ever seen about the history of the Chinese people in the UNITED STATES, and if I had to rate this video I would give it a 100/100% Rating, or 10/10 ... Rating.

Usually I would see an old person playing the erhu or chinese violin in Chinatown. But I think in about 15 years, those musicians will be gone from many or all Chinatown because of the generation fade out. We will still hear them at parades and shops via mp3 but not on a random day live at a Chinatown park. I did see one young non-chinese person playing along with others in this video. Unless, the GenXs and younger decide to carry that tradition which I can't see that right now. Sometimes they sound annoying to my ears, but I try to remind myself not to take it for granted.

From an objective point of view, I think every country has the right to control its own immigration policies. If country A does not want people from country B, that's fine. I don't see anything wrong with it. To be more specific, there is nothing to stop China from having an American Exclusion Act, which would forbid Americans from entering Chinese soil. They would have the absolute right to do that, it is their country. So I don't see a problem with the Chinese Exclusion Act. I wish there would be more exclusion acts. I am facing job competition from immigrants all the time. I wish they would be excluded from entering the US.
