Like the warning on your mattress “Do not remove this tag. Under penalty of law. “ I thought if you were to remove the mattress tag the police would suddenly appear and have you removed from your home and placed in a “reeducation facility. “ I see that recently the tag now says that the tag is not to be removed until after the mattress was bought by the consumer. Whew!

My Mom would buy these for me at the Supermarket to appease me while she continued her shopping, I'd snack on them and then she would bring it to the attention of the cashier that I had eaten them already and to charge her for them. Those cookies in the early 60's were probably a dime. It took a 10 cent box of cookies and a 60 year old memory for me to reach for the Kleenex.

I was just about to leave this exact comment! My mom would get me a box when we first arrived at the store, and I’d eat them while she did her shopping. I’d hand the box to the cashier when we’d check out. Seems like at least half the time the cashier would laugh and tell my mother there was no charge for good little boys! That was good incentive for me to always be on my best behavior at the store.

I miss the old times, too. Drinking water out of the hose, Kool-Aid in aluminum "glasses", Mom putting calamine lotion on your poison ivy or putting Vicks Vapo-Rub on your chest when you had a cold. Walter Cronkite. Things like that. But there are good things in our current life that we could not have dreamed of. KZbin for one, and the patience that it takes to put a video together. Can't forget the Chocolate Zingers, Tastycake Jelly Krimpets 3 packs and other goodies.

Nabisco Barnum's Animals were the ones I used to eat as a kid didn't realize that the boxes were ment for use as Christmas ornaments though. Every now and again I get the urge to revisit my childhood and I'll get a bag at the store.

I remember the boxes with a string "handle" that I enjoyed as a kid and my daughters as well. When I bought them for my grandchildren, I was upset for two reasons that they now come in a bag or plastic container. One is the nostalgia and the convenience of the handle. The children were able to carry them and hold onto them while sitting in their carseat. And, they were the perfect serving size for a small child. Now, I have to divide them up to put in small reusable containers but they don't have the handle. There's always more of a mess in the car. The other reason is environmental. Why go from a cardboard box that can be recycled or composted to plastic that will just sit in the landfills forever? I applaud the companies that now use more sustainable packaging but, it seems they went the opposite way.

The first place we would head to was the aisle with the Barnum's Animal Crackers and my mother would give us each a box and pay for the empty boxes when she checked out and payed for the other groceries. That would keep us all quiet and keep us from asking for other food so she could do her shopping.

Sure, I have fond memories of those as a kid. The ones with the red box with a string handle---my grandma used to give them to me and my sister when we came to visit

The box was a picture of different animals in circus cages; a white braided string was attached to carry your pets. Their taste reminds me a little of short-bread coikies.

Barnum was my & IS my fav. I've not tried the frosted. It was more of a "cheap" indulgence to get the box. Never thought to hang it on Christmas Tree. Ringling used to come to Houston, TX via railroad. They have just the right amount of sweetness for coffee, tea, or milk. Sure fun to eat almost as fun as Girl Scout cookies! Fun Factoid. Houston had a Nabisco plant. I'd always insist my dad drive past there on the way to the Houston Zoo.He ALWAYS would. Those smells bring back memories!

You know, I keep having those dreams about Animal Crackers. When I eat an animal cracker I transformed into any animal of its shape. It was a crazy but awesome dream. If Animal Crackers were magical in real life I would so turn into a monkey, an elephant, a bird, a panda and different kinds of animals. It is now my favorite dream(Right next to teaming up with Sonic Dream). I love it😍🐒🐅🐎🐕🐈🐖🐿🐓🐼🐀🐁🐑🐪🐫🐘🐦🐧🐊🐸🐬🐙🐍🐢🐠🦀🐉

I munched on these as a kid in the 70s... I'm pretty sure they were the Nabisco brand because I remember the box. My all time favorite are the white and pink frosted with sprinkles😁 I have the weight to prove it😳

When I was a preschool teacher, I ate a lot of animal crackers at snack time. When I was a kid, whenever Mom gave me a box of animal crackers, it was special. I didn't know the box was actually a Christmas ornament.

Anyone remember animal crackers in a Greyhound bus cardboard container circa 1963. I believe they had bears. What was unique was they had chocolate bears as well as the traditional ones.

I grew up eating the Nabisco animal crackers, but as an adult I have a real affinity for the Stauffer’s animal crackers. Their products have become harder to find where I live, though, so I haven’t had any for quite a few years. Stauffer’s makes a frosted gingerbread cookie for the holidays that I just love, but no local store has stocked them for years and Amazon sellers charge like five times the retail price for them…

I remember my local supermarket would always have these on display with the string handles and my uncle would always buy me one or two. I use to eat these all the time and then I stopped because I was tired of eating them all the time. I recently bought one and I didn't even know they still mad them and I swear the quality definitely went down hill.

I was not a big fan of animal cookies. I liked them well enough, but I preferred a similar product called Toy Cookies. They were shaped like various toys. My favorite was the clock (Is that a toy?), and I think there was a ball and a block. The cookies were significantly larger than the animal cookies, and I don't recall them coming in an individual serving box. I also don't recall what company made them, though I was aware of that at the time, even as a child. (This was the 50's and 60"s.) In college I became fond of Mother's Frosted Circus Animal Cookies, but never considered them to be at all similar to the old animal cookies.
