Was moved to Tucson in 1957 at 3yo, Dad was former AAF / USAF 45-48, remember those Sunday drives along the fence outside the Base in the early 60`s seeing countless Hellcats missing engine and stood-up on their nose lined up waiting for their turn at the smelter, the smelter still exists sitting in a private scrapyard by the power plant............. worthless trivia but is still part of my childhood memories.

I know where you are speaking of. Fascinated too by the rows of dismantled aircraft.

That is some amazing footage, its crazy to think the f15 is that old

But unlike the video... It's days are still not yet numbered.

Back in 77 I saw the F-15A do a demonstration at an air show at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Yeah, its old, but still a superior fighter.

Greece and Turkey are still operating the even older F-4 Phantom II (specifically, the F-4E PI2000 (AUP) variant for Greece, and the F-4E 2020 Terminator for Turkey - both massively upgraded from the original Vietnam era F-4E).

Was that an skyraider @3:20? When I was little there was a video of the same cutter, cutting off the wings of P38's for scrapping. I remember hating seeing that. I'd love to have an F100 ingot of aluminum just because
@remylopez482112 күн бұрын
Actually the aircraft at 3:20 appears to be a Republic F-84 thunder streak jet, but what aviation geek would not like to have that item at 5:15 in their man cave🤔😎
@bad74maverick112 күн бұрын
@@remylopez4821 I couldn't tell right off. Looks like it just might be a Thunderstreak. that would be an awesome addition to a man cave!!
@remylopez482112 күн бұрын
@ by the way, I also forgot to mention the A-6 was called the intruder. The Skyraider was called the A1 in Air Force service and AD in Navy service. I hope you have a great day Maverick from an airplane geek in Southern California
@bad74maverick112 күн бұрын
@@remylopez4821 Yeah, I meant A1. I confuse the nomenclature of the two from time to time. Like the A26 invader and the B26 Marauder lol.

I have one of those TH-55s in my shop right now. I have it for sale but if no one buys, I will restore it. In 2008, just before the economy collapsed, I bought 125 of those H34s from Jacks Govt Surplus. I didnt lose money, but it was an ordeal to get rid of them. They mostly wound up scrapped. Some made it to paint ball fields, some for military training contractors, one to a museum in CA. I had hoped to get some in airworthy condition to fight fire. Then the military started selling Blackhawks and a few Chinooks. But it was some great adventure

Oh wow! We made a roadtrip in 2009 and visited Kingman. We checked out the airport and talked to some older gentlemen there. They told us, how they stacked the WWII bombers after the war there and teared them down, junked them. They told us how that was done, and we digged a bit and found plenty of tiny bits and parts. I got a gearset and some kind of linkage from there. Crazy! So many taxdollars, I am speechless when I see that. I learned aircraftmechanic, specialized for fuselage fabrication, it barely breaks my heart, when I see how they crush these technical marbles.

How depressing And we so called greatest living beings on the planet or most intelligent, well I guess you could say as we sure do a lot of passion killing and heartless things

@mrandrossguy9871 Hard to not agree. But what are you supposed to do when you've got evil other humans pointing multiple nuclear guns at your head? And frankly, I don't see any hope of the human race any time soon outgrowing the not small percentage of people that think it's okay to kill and destroy to get things they covet. The human race will end up destroying this planet yet. It's only a matter of when...

It's the scarcity mentality, the budget has to be burned every year. We should all have this kind of disposable income

"most advanced and sophisticated fighter" Actually it was in second place. F-14A was far more advanced than F-15A. However, I like F-15 too.
