Does anybody ever listen to the safety brief? I think it's a total waste of time because if the plane crashes you'll be history most of the time. Air travel is the safest mode of transportation but the survival rate from mishaps is the lowest.

There are tons of plane crashes where an evacuation has been necessary and successful as the impact didn't kill most/all. Also, there are times when there might be an evacuation without a crash, which would still require everyone to have an idea what to do. And you know that some people would sue the hell out of any airline who wouldn't show it (if it wasn't required) if they got hurt.

@@Cal90208 I agree with you on the legal aspects of the safety brief but practically speaking if the plane crashes there is a very good chance you're not going to walk away. The safety brief in this case is useless.

@@roadracer1584 And yet, as I said before, there are countless of times when a plane has crash landed with many still alive, in which case the evacuation was essential. And again, what about if there’s an evacuation but no crash?

@@Cal90208 I disagree with "countless." If a commercial airline goes down it's usually curtains for the passengers. Fortunately, this rarely happens. Yes. There is that rare case where some passengers survive (e.g. the plane that landed in the Hudson) but this is the exception to the rule. Anyway, I ignore the safety brief because it is a bunch of feel good BS designed to give the passengers a false sense of security. Just hope the pilot is sober and competent, the aircraft mechanics did their job right, and no terrorist blows up your airplane and you should arrive at your destination in one piece.

@@roadracer1584 Korean air crash in Guam, the China Airlines 737 that burned after landing, the Pan Am collision with KLM, the Ethiopian hijacked water landing, the Avianca flight that crashed in New York, the Emirates flight that crash landed in Dubai, the British Airways flight that crash landed in London, the Air France overrun, the Garuda overrun. These are just ones I though off on the top of my head. I’m sure there are well over a dozen more where people survived and had to get out.
