I saw a pair of these last week in a mud flat run off body of water in southern Saskatchewan. They are very elegant shore birds scouring the mud flats of slow creeks and water ponds.

Avocets are a bird that we get quite a few of on the West coast, but they are such cool birds, I still try to get great shots of them :) In other words, too cool to retire :)

Great video! Thanks! I know very little about water birds, so it is fun and interesting to learn about them. The babies are so cute! It's amazing that they are so independent on their first day! Neat too about the avocet's bills being sensitive on the ends to catch prey.🙂

Yeah! I always wonder how they get enough to eat with that slim bill.

We have one here in Massachusetts right now! I was lucky enough to see it. Very rare for this area! I loved watching it sweep its bill in the water from side to side looking for food.

Cool birds! I can't say that I've ever seen them in person, but i HAVE seen them on the Cornell Mississippi River Flyway cam, which is located on Lake Onalaska, adjacent to the Upper Mississippi River in Wisconsin during migration. Thanks for the interesting info!

I saw one just a few days ago, the day you released this video oddly enough. It was sticking its bill in the water and wagging it back and forth in the water, I'm now guessing it was searching for food with its sensitive bill rather than knocking stuff around to flush out food underwater. Thanks for the info.
