I used to envy married people with kids, but life showed me that single life is much simpler. I work as a CNA taking care of old folks. Everyone says I should become a nurse, but I don't want it because of the stress. I make great money as an aide, I get home on time where it's peaceful, and I'm following my passion to become a martial artist. I even took a month off of work because I can. "You never get to tell me what to do.... ever....again." As a separated and soon-to-be-divorced man, I loved this line. I've felt that line. It's such an incredibly liberating feeling, to tell your woman that and have no fear at all when saying it. So many women today are used to being in power in their relationships (especially in marriages). It's so satisfying to flip the script.

0:02 was one of my favorite lines of Lester's. It just kind of shows his personality and how he probably jokes with the people especially with the drive-thru lady conversation, and it was funny. Shows how down-to-earth of a person he really is

"Honey it's okay...I want you to be happy." Best line by Lester. We think he didn't mean it but he did. Also when asks Angela Hayes if his daughter is happy and Angela says: She's... she's really happy. She thinks she's in love. And Lester response: Good for her. Lester's greatness of his character. Despite his family made him sad, he still wants them to be happy. Because he understands that true happiness is the key for someone to become a better person and above all because he truly loves the family he made till the end even if it doesn't exist anymore.

MyNotebook 01 That's COMPLETELY besides the point of his working there. The job may have been taken as an expression of his "freedom" from the formalities of married pretense (ie going through the motions of just "existing" together). The scene is so effective because it is relatable to those who suspect that their spouse is being unfaithful and taking advantage of their position in the relationship. Ironically, Spacey's character may actually be feeling _happier,_ than may have been the case, were he still working a more "responsible" form of employment. Hence why he [really] took the job in the first place.
