The American Bully was bred to be the ultimate companion animal. if you’re considering this loving and easy going breed as a pet here are five things you should know.
5. The american bully comes in four varieties recognized by the ABKC the founding registry of the breed. From smallest to largest the varieties are, pocket, classic, standard, and XL. There are two notable, varieties, micro and XXL that are not recognized by the ABKC.
4. The American Bully is a developing breed. A little over 25 years in existence everything about the breed is in the process of being refined. Because the continuity and quality of the breed’s characteristics and health have not been fully established, it is very important to do you research before bringing an American Bully into your home.
3. A well bred American Bully is more than just a lapdog. Yes the breed is a companion animal but well bred American Bullies have been known to have moderate success in dog sports as well as weight pulling.
2. You should be aware not to overheat or overwork an American Bully. Increasingly, in recent years more English Bulldog blood has been introduce to the breed. And while the American Bully may appear to be a heartier breed, it often suffers from many of the same physical conditions of the English Bulldog.
1. Weather you live in a house or apartment the American Bully is an amazing house dog. The breed is for the most part low energy but can produce an intimidating bark when needed. This breed is the ultimate family companion, therefore, the best place for the American Bully is inside with the family. The American Bully will do well out doors for brief periods of time, but it’s best to keep him indoors especially when the weather conditions are extremely hot or cold.

I’ve rescued at least two-three different bully’s & I was about to have my 1st child & I wanted to know how to keep my daughter from getting bitten by the dog while her food was put down! Thank goodness I came up on a lady that was giving training classes and she told me when you get the dog Best is a place your hand over the food the dog learns that they are not allowed to eat until my hand, my husband’s hand, or my daughter’s hand! All 4 dogs do the same thing if a hand is near their bowl 🍲 they sit down & wait until your hand is out of the way! I love my dogs enjoyed your videos!

Great information! I have a standard Bully. 90 lbs below my knee cap! I keep my boy indoors at all times! Short hair , and size makes this breed easy to keep inside. Plus keeping your dog in-house in sures he's apart of our at all times. Everyone who comes to my house, my dog thinks they come to see him! Greats you with a quick sniff wants you to rub his thick muscular neck or ears.......then he's bringing you his ball!!! ha! I don't hunt with my dog, I don't fight my dogs or care which breed is better. This breed fulfills my needs in every way. Lots of love from these dogs for sure!

Danny Keomany I found him loose 2 days after Christmas! No collar, no microchip? My boy now! I find loose dogs all the time. I foster dogs to go to good homes. I love this breed and took the proper steps to socialize him and leash train. This breed just wants to please there owner's, no matter what. Good luck with finding the right dog for you.

Another fine and informative video. I think that the American bully is one of--if not the most--diverse dog breeds out there. That diversity could be a positive in many ways, but it could also be a negative. Such a large variety in the breed type has led to some very extremes in the American bully; specifically, the pockets, exotics, and micros. I don’t want to offend anyone, but I think that folks should move away from those three types. Squat and lower to the ground is not the way to go in my opinion. Instead of incorporating blood from breeds such as the English bulldog and the French bulldog, blood from more functional, and longer-legged breeds would be more optimal. I don’t have much of a problem with the other side of the extreme like the XL and XXL. For those, many times folks use mastiff blood, and mastiffs, in addition to having that larger and bulkier look most want in their American bullies, are also more functional which would most often lead to a sturdier, more versatile, and more physically-sound dog. I think that folks should be taking advantage of the diversity of the American bully to improve their lines. The American bully is a bulldog breed and I believe that no bulldog breed-even designer breeds-should be completely nonfunctional. With the American Pit bulldog being the usual staple for creating the American bully, breeders should think carefully on what other breeds to incorporate so that you get a dog that not only looks good but moves well.

Being a companion animal isn't nonfunctional. There's an entire breed group dedicated to animals who were bred purely for companionship as evidence. I agree that they should use different breeds in the makeup of an American Bully other than an English Bulldog. English bulldogs are unhealthy and not optimal if you want to produce a breed with few health issues and longevity. In addition to that, I think using longer-legged breeds would improve the movement of the breed but Mastiffs are not going to contribute to the general health and longevity of the American Bully. I think using sighthounds like the Greyhound or Whippet would be better. They are large and have longer legs which would improve movement but they are breeds of moderation. Sure, sighthounds are fast as a whip and they are invigorated by being outside and running. However, after they use up all of their energy running which takes like twenty minutes they're couch potatoes for the rest of the day. In addition to that, they have generally long lifespans. If the sturdiness/stockiness, trainability, and temperament of the American Bully combined with the taller build and general healthiness of a sighthound then I think the breed would improve significantly.

World Wolf It does not really matter with papers. You could breed a Pocket with an XL, the only thing that matters is the height of the dog.

World Wolf There’s no such thing as a XL pit bull. American Pit Bull Terriers are one breed and don’t really vary too much in size. To answer your question though... The biggest differences are their bodies’ shape and snout. American Pit Bull Terriers are the skinniest looking. Their body is almost comparable to any short haired terrier. Their legs are NOT stubby or muscular. Their head is quite square but they definitely have a more pronounced muzzle, not dented in as much. American Staffordshires are slightly shorter than APBTs. They don’t have super stubby legs but their bodies are more compact and muscular looking. (The staffordshire bull is practically it’s smaller cousin just being the half size version essentially.) Their snouts and more short and wide. The American Bully is one of the smallest bully terrier breeds. They are super compact and stubby all around. To me they look like an even smaller Staff Bull or a bulldog with a Staff face. I’m very active with AKC and UKC and get to watch many shows and meet breeders, so I thought I’d inform. :) I can send pics of each breed also if that’s helpful.

Leah Martinez I'm no vet but i think so. I have an english bulldog who snorts like a pig sometimes! I know she can breath fine because she has a little bit of beagle in her that gives her a longer snout. I don't think there is anything to worry about. ❤️🐶

Bridgett mayer any dog can turn on its owner if not trained well. Children are more likely to get bitten by small dogs and Shepard breeds. Pitbull types just get a bad rap because they are more athletic and can be made to look more intimidating than say a mastiff or poodle.

Weirdanimalboy That's what I said. There are dogs that are built for sprinting and dogs that are better at trotting long distances. However, if it was possible to get a dog to full out run for "a good couple of miles non stop", then Huskies would have been replaced by those dogs long ago. Or been bred to do the same. Overheating is not the only thing that stops a Husky from running that long. It is also the fact that it is impossible to get enough oxygen to support such intense exercise for such long periods of time. Though I guess that, being related to terriers and bulldogs, an American Bully might be more likely to push himself to exhaustion, unlike a Husky, which will simply stop when it's tired.
