Indeed. Both Dutch and English are members of the Germanic languagetree and therefor will have many similarities in grammar. In opposite to French, Italian and Spanish etc who feel less familiar because they are from the Roman languagetree. Further to the east in Europe the languages become Slavic.

I hate to tell you this, but in the Netherlands, besides from large deer and wild boars, we also do have (some) wolfs running around in the wild. So not just little foxes and squirrels

@@JanuzTrance68 Some wolves? The Netherlands currently has eleven wolf packs and two solitary wolves. Ten packs have confirmed that cubs have been born. In total, at least 55 wolf cubs have been confirmed this year. And this in a nation that is twice the size of the state of New Jersey.

American English actually has some Dutch loan words due to New York being New Amsterdam before. Like the word “cookie” which comes from “koekje”, “bluffing” from “bluffen” etc

Dutch word for airport is actually Luchthaven (air = lucht and port = haven). The word "Vliegveld" is usually meant to indicate a small airport.

As a Dutch person i don't understand why the are writing the W as a V in the Dutch pronunciation in the video. Because it is just NOT. For example: The W in Windmill is the same as the W in Windmolen. Just pronounced a bit shorter in tone.

Our G is hard isn't it? And The language closest to Dutch is actually English, we also have a lot in common with German. We also have some words straight up borrowed from other languages whenever we or they invaded. (English and French mostly). We also have some wolves these days btw, but they aren't with a lot and you won't find them in the bigger cities. Also foxes don't come up to people here! Also if you try to speak Dutch and we reply in English please don't think we are rude, we are trying to accommodate you haha. Hope you can visit some old city centers here, they are the prettiest.

Dutch is a germanic langues, so is English... That's why words look like each other... England and The Netherlands have as neighbors influenced each other and the English brought it to the US. PS. The Dutch have also an (political) history in the US, so that's why the senate in the US still vote with "Yah" (Ja) & "Neh" (Nee).

@Arti-iChi Ja, wij begrijpen elkaar erg makkelijk.

All the other Germanic languages pronounce j as English pronounces y. Not all Dutch speaker pronounce the g as harsh as that, people in the south of the Netherlands and in Belgium use a 'soft' g as we call it. Alstublieft is a shortened version of als-het-u-belieft (if it pleases you), which is the same as the French s'il vous plait with you in both language being in the polite/formal version. Dankjewel is informal (wouldn't say impolite), so it's a bit confusing as we also have dankuwel and alsjeblieft. We also use the French pardon for excuse me. Toilet is also French, the English have it but pronounce it in the non-French way. Why would you ask do you speak English in Dutch or any other language?

Most foreigners think and believe the G thing. No need to pronounce the G as a scraping throat. Never did that and never will. In fact it sounds when pronounced as if it ain't there at all. NO JOKE! Btw: Province Limburg in the south is known for the soft G.
