The sacrifices of these soldiers must never be forgotten. Their families suffered and we must appreciate what they did to preserve this nation.

The worst part is that for nearly two centuries, the soldiers who fought to preserve our Union were vilified as the servants of tyrants while their enemies, who fought to preserve a peculiar institution that declared human beings to be the property of rich monsters, were lionized as courageous rebels.

And although he may be poor, he shall never be a slave, Shouting the battle cry of freedom! The civil war in my opinion marks the true founding of America. Where America wasn’t just an idea, but an idea that was practiced. Where Americans decided that they were only free if they were ALL free. That was the start of the eternal battle for a more perfect union.

It marks the beginning of an all powerful federal government and the slow death of State rights, which was something the founders always feared. We now have a bloated Federal government in ridiculous uncontrollable debt and a populace which hates each other. If not for the fact we are all stuck together, a National divorce would be inevitable. We should of stayed apart. The competition between the two would of been beneficial.
