@@TheDemouchetsREACT This bridge has survived strong floods, earthquakes, wars, countless people who walked or drove over it, which will also outlive you. 😄 So don't worry, on the contrary, these old bridges have a soul from all the people who built on them and repaired them in the last centuries, the bridge is looking forward to it if you would walk over it

About Regensburg and WWII... In Regensburg, there was a large factory belonging to the Messerschmitt company, where the famous Messerschmitt 109 single-seat fighter planes were built. And the production capacity was well over 300 machines per month. These planes were the backbone of German fighter power and are also the second most built aircraft of all time. And that is why Regensburg was a possible preferred target for Allied air raids. The German air defense was only too aware of this from the very beginning. And that is why the church windows were removed early on and stored securely. The city itself was founded by the Romans...

Nice to see you again. I like your videos. Regensburg is a good choice. Thank you for not making yet another video about the Oktoberfest.

I'm happy that you're watching a video about my home town. Unfortunately, the video is not really informative and leaves out many historical aspects and sights. So I would like to give you a bit of background. Regensburg was founded by the Romans almost 2000 years ago. Part of the original stone fort wall from back then can still be seen today. Also parts of some gates and other buildings of the original fort. In addition to the cathedral, there are many other churches, former monasteries and of course hundreds of buildings from the Middle Ages to see. We even have a castle in the middle of the city, the St. Emmeram or Thurn und Taxis Castle. The Thurn und Taxis family controlled the postal system in Europe for many centuries. A corresponding postal museum is also housed in the castle. Regensburg is home to three “big” breweries, plus a small brewery that only brews for its own needs. Whereby large has to be defined a little here. The production is simply intended for the local market, except for Kneitinger, which is also available abroad, and not like the large Munich breweries, for example, which cover the whole of Germany and partly abroad. There are easily another 40 to 50 breweries within a 50 km radius of Regensburg. But enough about beer. Let's take a brief look at the buildings shown in the video. The cathedral is not really under construction, it is more of a clean-up or restoration. For decades, buses, trucks and cars were allowed to drive directly around the cathedral. As a result, the stones have turned dark gray to black. In one of the aerial shots, this is still clearly visible on the spires. These discolored stones are now being cleaned or replaced where necessary. The same applies to the stone bridge. This was also renovated for years after traffic was also closed here. Fun fact: The stone bridge in Regensburg is the model for the famous Charles Bridge in Prague. The historic Wurstkuchl is the oldest continuously open restaurant in the world. The sweet mustard served here is also a Regensburg original, made by Händlmaier. With luck, you can even get it in a US supermarket if it has a well-stocked German section. There are boat trips to Walhalla, but it can also be reached by car in 20 minutes. I don't think I need to mention that there is also a cycle path to get there. A boat trip in the other direction takes you to the Weltenburg Monastery, with the oldest brewery in the world, and on to Kehlheim to the “Befreiungshalle”. This was commissioned shortly after the completion of the Walhalla and was dedicated to the “German freedom fighters” of days gone by and to the tribes of the area. I think that was enough info and text at once. If you want more info or background information, just ask me. Otherwise I would like to refer you to the Wikipedia article on Regensburg. There you can of course find a lot more information about the city and its history.

When you happen to get to Regensburg, please enter the cathedral and look up the giant pillars and please walk over the old bridge. You may touch, it is made for use. And I confirm, at "Salzstadl" down at the river banks ("Wurstkuchl") they really have the best sausages in Germany (buy them directly in the small cottage, not in the nearby restaurant where they cost twice as much). Once I wanted to buy raw sausages for a barbecue party and the ownerofthe shop, an elderly lady, refused to sell me because I would have to go on a one hours drive and after that time they would not be fresh to meet their standards of quality. And don't miss the old town with the towers of the patrician families, phallic symbols of their power.

As a nordic european.. I know more about our old pagan traditions and hove it could be interpreted!?? In anyway, Valhalla, is where the gods reside in old mythology.. and its where the bravest varriors ends up! Its kinda similar to christianity, where one end up by Jesus side in the afterlife.. if one did good deeds! Valhalla was kinda comfort belive, that they was selected to sit at Valhalla!
