Hi, Francois!!! Great video! I think the main reason why Korean people give you a lot of complimentary or "service" is your charming and friendly personality!! You have an upbeat personality that resonates with many people. I have met many foreigners in Korea for the last twenty years, and I have to say you have the friendliest personality. Also, Koreans have a lot of 정 which translates to affection. Koreans are usually shy and conservative when meeting people especially foreigners at first but when you show them your friendly and happy smiles, they will open up and start engaging with you. Also, it helps if you speak Korean to them. Koreans really appreciate when foreigners can speak their language because it just shows you respect their cultures. Furthermore, being American helps too due to the strong historical alliance between the two countries. As you know, America is Korea's most favorable and most important country to them. Well, my biggest charm in Korea is none other than public safety and gun-free. I know I have said this many times, but this is the main and biggest reason why I have lived in Korea for almost twenty years. Korea is not perfect but I have lived in the U.S. all my life and traveled to many wonderful countries and time and time again, I have come to the conclusion that safety always comes at the top of my list no matter what. I don't care how wonderful a country is but if it is not safe, what is the point? I always feel so safe and peaceful whenever I walk around anywhere and anytime in Korea. I could never experience this when I was in other countries!! You can buy many things in this world but it's impossible to buy public safety like Korea which matters the most. This is the exact reason why I might live here for the rest of my life!! I would have left Korea long ago if it was not safe to be honest. I always hope and pray that Korea remains this way forever. Peace brother!!!

Hey, brotha!! Thanks again for another informative missive! You definitely can't buy the peace of mind that comes with safety. I wonder if it is my personality that gets me service at these restaurants and shops hahaha. I'll continue to be positive as I don't know any other way hahah. Safety is my top concern, especially as I age. I think you and I are on the same page there!!! Thanks always for your constructive comments that add value to content!!♡♡♡

I agree with you on safety, but don't forget healthcare (a close second). As a Korean Canadian I love Canada, but sometimes things happen here that would never happen in Korea. For example my elderly Dad has been attacked more than once by dogs that were not on leashes or just had irresponsible owners. There is a jerk in my neighbourhood who must have a large dog who he lets poop right in the middle of the sidewalk (a massive pile of poop) and never picks it up. My Dad has had at least 3 bikes stolen. I have had expensive gardening tools stolen, etc... However I have returned wallets, brand new phones, etc.. because I believe in karma. I have so many wonderful American friends, but I would never move to the US mainly due to guns, lack of affordable healthcare, and division.

I still love America, but I would never recommend anyone to live there due to many reasons like some you have mentioned. The cost of living is insane, cost of education is ridiculous, homelessness, crimes, drugs, racism and hate crimes, political division, gun violence, corruptions, crazy health care service and cost, and much more. It was not like this when I was growing up in the 70's ans 80's. America had its glory days I hate to say! @@skatingcanuck9837

14:15 You got the point! Even though South Korea is getting open to the world, Koreans still do not know the outside and want to know people who is not Korean! But most Koreans are too shy to talk to you. That is why they stare at you. They want to know you even though they cannot speak English! Now you understand this, and it makes you much comfortable here.

I saw a video of youtube couple living in Korea who complained about the inflated produce prices, but I think they are shopping in the wrong places. I was surprised how reasonable the prices for fruit were at your local fruit markets - some cost less and looked much higher quality than here in Canada. I love that you know support local small shops - it must feel great that they recognize you. That rarely happens in my city.
@francoismarc3
@francoismarc3 20 күн бұрын
There are many places where fresh fruit can be purchased at reasonably cheap prices, but fruit is kind of expensive here, at least some thing are (like watermelons). Even though the price may be higher, supporting my neighborhood market is more important than shopping at the big stores as the prices are a bit higher, but I can support my neighborhood:)

Your neighbourhood does not look like any of the images of glitzy Seoul I have seen in videos. I am not sure if this makes sense, but it looks like a smaller city, like a real neighbourhood. Firstly the fact that you speak Korean, are polite and respectful goes a loooong way with Koreans. You stand out because you are a foreigner, but why do foreigners always complain I will always be seen as a foreigner? Why not use that to your advantage? Your Korean friend will walk into a restaurant and will look like any regular customer. Francois standing out is not necessarily a bad thing; I think you have started to realize that.

@@francoismarc3 Thank you for the kindness. Just to clarify I wasn't trying to encourage you to exploit any advantage to being a foreigner. I very much respect that you make a point of not taking that for granted. I have seen foreigner guys in videos who definitely are in Korea just to "play" with the locals. One more thing is you give off a good vibe. For example I remember one video where you were walking through a park filled with Koreans and greeting Koreans with a smile as you pass. As you know Koreans don't usually greet people in the city or engage in small talk, but they make exceptions with you all the time. Lastly people often complain I will always be a foreigner in Korea, but if they wanted to be a local why did they leave the comforts of their home country? Clearly they wanted to seek another home to find another experience.
