We're spending a few weeks in our Denver home and missing our Metro Manila home, so we decided to try to cook up some iconic filipino dishes ourselves. After our meal at Manila Bay Restaurant in Aurora, Colorado, we know that there's great pinoy food outside of the Philippines, but can we pull it together on our own? Let's find out.
Watch our episode on Manila Bay Filipino Restaurant on our other channel: Filipino restaurant in Denver

ABOUT US
We’re the Lockwoods. And we’re traveling the world to experience-up close and in person-all the natural wonders and distinct cultures that our kids would otherwise be consuming only through textbooks and TV. We think it’s a better way to learn and we’re working hard to fund this little experiment in the hope that our kids will grow up wiser, kinder, and more grateful for the beauty of our diverse planet and its people.

I was in the US Navy for 20 years and a lot of people probably don’t realize that like 10% of the US Navy is made up of Filipinos. I grew up in the midwest and the Navy was my first exposure to filipino food & culture. I love it! Thanks for sharing your adventure trying to make it. You’re motivating me to try!

Try the easy Tinola Manok, sauté onions, ginger, and garlic for about 2-3 minutes, followed by the chicken cuts, sauté for about 5 minutes. Then pour in chicken stock or water salt and pepper to taste, boil for about 5 minutes until chicken is cooked. Add in basil leaves or moringa leaves (malunggay leaves). happy eating. dipping sauce to partner with the chicken tinola, patis, and calamansi. yummy. Don't forget the rice. Pour some oil to thicken your adobo sauce. soursop is Guyabano fruit

Hooray 🎉! The family that cooks and eats together, stays together! Reagan’s first appearance in LTP channel is it? I think Erin’s adobo looks yum! There are actually many variations of adobo, and depends on your likeness. Some will cook it as pork, then let the gravy evaporate until it is dry and fry the pork with additional oil. On your version others may also add some boiled egg it in or potatoes or even go for both chicken and pork on it to give more variation and texture on the adobo. I like my adobo with tomatoes (my moms version). Wow kids are amazing too with their chef like skills! I adore how their tastebuds and olfactory nerves are spot on. ❤

Good job guys! Some of my own personal tips. You could marinade the chicken like a rosemary chicken just to add flavor to it along with worcestershire sauce. If u do pork adobo, try to brown it in margarine or butter instead of oil. Next, I noticed u didn't dice any onions. Most filipino dishes that have a sauce start with sauteing onions then garlic. If u don't want the meat to be too salty, don't season the meat with salt anymore as the soy sauce is salty enough. Lastly, the use and proportions of soy sauce and vinegar is according to ur personal taste. I personally do half a cup to a cup of soy sauce depending on the amount of meat then add vinegar by the tablespoon according to my preferred sourness :)

Wow I can't believe that you are living like a Filipino already. With that chicken adobo, looks so delicious and the mango sticky rice that brooklyn did, so happy to seeing you enjoying and cooking our food and delicacies. Looking forward to more cooking our dishes !

Good job, Erin Lockwood & family! The best way to win man's heart is in the stomach. Cooking adobo is your steppingstone to cook more delicious, nutritious, yummy & simple but classy Filipino foods. You can have a Filipino-American Restaurant Business here in the Philippines & in America, very competitive. Thank you for vlogging about Philippines & we are so proud of you for embracing, blogging, sharing throughout the whole World 🌎 🌍 Philippine tourist attractions, hidden creatures, cultures, customs & traditions, the Philippine deep, scenic views, beaches, etc. Enjoy, more power & take care. God bless 🙏😇! :-)

Wow, that was quite an adventure in the kitchen! Erin, you're rocking that chicken adobo - it looks absolutely delicious. Phil, your mixology skills are on point, and that martini with a twist sounds like the perfect cooking companion. Brooklyn, the mango sticky rice turned out fantastic, and Colt, that sorbet looks refreshing! And let's not forget the culinary journey at Manila Bay Restaurant - those dishes sounded amazing. It's impressive how you bring a mix of Filipino flavors to your home. Keep having fun in the kitchen, and I'm sure your viewers will keep coming back for more delightful recipes!

You can make an extra large batch of adobo that you can use for different meals all throughout the week. Also for busy people,no time to cook, just reheat it in microwave, topstove. It can last up to 4 days in the fridge because of high acid content of vinegar and salt(sodium) for preventing the spoilage causing bacteria.

I’m feeling proud of your love for the authentic Filipino taste. It’s flavorful and differently interesting. It’s global food fusion of Latin hispanic, Chinese, Indian with ethnic fil twist in it. Great job Erin and kids. Dad Phil surprise us with your crispy pata soon, missed the taste of it dip in soy sauce with lots of tomatoes and onions 😊
