Jonah was 6'4" and was 265lbs, and could run 100m in 10.7 seconds. Not only that, he had crazy balance to be able to stay on his feet. He was also the worlds first Rugby Superstar, recognized and adored all around the world

A legend in NZ and gone too soon, he supported charity and youth, only thing bigger than him was his heart.😢 You can watch his funeral service to see the level of respect our nation had for Jonah not just as a sports great but as an amazing person ❤.

Jonah Lomu had the same sort of popularity as Usain Bolt. Everyone wanted to see him do something special. My team got crushed by him several times, but I wouldn't change it for the world. He gave us all such wonderful memories!

One of the best Islander Rugby Players to ever be born, with help from the NZRU he became the best Rugby player the world has ever seen. To me he is an Islander first and Kiwi second. There will never be another Jonah, he was one of a kind.

He could use his speed to run away from an opponent and if that didn’t work, he could use his strength to run through an opponent. He was just the best of both sides of that combined. 100 meters in 10.7ish seconds, 6 ft 4 or 5 inches and weighing in at around 265 pounds. He was a beast and the best. RIP Legendary Winger. You're right, crossing the try-line with the ball does NOT score until they touch the ball on the ground. Players will often keep running after they've crossed the try-line in order to put the ball down closer to the goal posts (you'll see it in a few of those clips), because after a try the scoring team gets a shot at kicking goal for an extra 2 points, called a conversion. The conversion kick must be taken in direct line with where the ball touched down and obviously it's easier to kick a goal from directly in front of the goal posts than it is from the sideline!

This only shows Jonah's best tries from the (4 yearly) Rugby World Cups. I would rate a couple of them in his career top 10. There was even more to Jonah than what you see here.
@SylvesterTemple10 ай бұрын
You have to touch the ball on the ground, and you have to be in control of the ball, otherwise it doesn't count as a try, and since the conversion attempt is made in a line from where the ball is touched down, a lot of times people will run towards the goalposts to make it easier for the kicker. They can choose how far from the try line they take the kick, so it all becomes angles. Jonah Lomu was very fast, relative to a lot of other players, he was also tall, and strong as well - it got to the point where teams would discuss how to combat Lomu's skill, and at times it was "if we can't get four people on him, he's not going down". He also seemed to have a brilliant ability to know exactly what was going on in the game at all times - it's rare he was out of place. There's been other good rugby players, but no one has ever been on Lomu's level before or since.....

Whenever we watched him play either on TV or at a game it was always like "PASS IT TO LOMU!!!!" because we knew a try would come from it.

Rip Jonah. Someone I looked up to as a kid in the 90s going to a rugby school. You should check out this mental Indian sport called kabadi. I don't know why it's not better known but I spent a few months in India and saw a fair few games. It's essentially tag (or it in the UK) but played by rugby sized players on a hard court where they have to tackle the attacker by whatever means possible.

A try is awarded five points. A successful try is awarded with an additional conversion opportunity for two points. If the referee awards a team a penalty they are allowed to kick for the posts for three points. Finally, a player is allowed to attempt a drop-goal in play for three points.
