This is a great channel, I wish I knew about it earlier. I took Kenpo for 12 years until my master moved across country to care of family. I loved it, made 2nd Dan. One think I love about Kenpo is that you wear shoes in class, never liked the barefoot training. Anyway, I subbed!

Thank you! We will be uploading more techniques and information weekly. You can wear shoes... but the reason for not wearing shoes initially in Karate was to help heal your body, through grounding yourself from energy from the earth. The Warriors would train without shoes on the ground or in dirt to ground themselves while training, and this also helped heal their bodies just like acupressure to the feet. The feet have all the organs attached to them, so pressure in various places, allows for your body to heal. Shoes break that connection. Training without shoes will help u become more aware of yourself, because after a fee snubs, u will be aware of where not to step. We appreciate your support! Oss! 🙏🏽 🥋

If I can ask, why attack the mastoid with the sword hand/ chop in Delayed Sword (rather than striking the neck perhaps) ? Thank you
@Redsensei10p Жыл бұрын
Ideally, depending on the height zone of your opponent, Delayed Sword would more than likely allow for an angle of entry for a right downward diagonal hand sword to the side of the neck rather than the mastoid. I suppose if you kick them hard enough with that ball kick to the groin or if you’re way taller than your opponent then the mastoid might be an available target. Not saying this way is wrong, but I always teach to chop the neck🤙🏽💯

@@Redsensei10p cheers ! Same here, absolutely not trying to correct anyone, I’ve just not come across anyone striking the mastoid when chopping like this, I’ve only encountered folks striking at the neck (either generally or maybe aimed at the carotid etc). Just keen to understand advantages of this target 🙂

@@MrUglyDave completely understood. I’ve been studying Kenpo since I was a young, young child. If you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask💯

I'm chopping the side of the neck, and if it reaches part of the mastoid, that is ok.

During my testing for black belt GrandMaster Tatum had us do Delayed Sword with a punch and it works well. Will demo

Well when he is doing his sword, cross gets into his jaw...
@ikarateclub Жыл бұрын
The sword hand can also block the cross.. That is why the hand stays up after the initial inward block. I will give demo soon of this. Done it many times in the "what if" phase with a person throwing a punch instead of a grab.

An observation of the two different blocks of Delayed Sword and Alternating Maces. You used a sweeping forearm to clear the grab in DS. You used a hammering Inward forearm to push down the two arms of the push in AM. Go back and look at the front leg ball of the foot kick in DS. Which of the two blocks would have allowed you to make contact through the distance in DS? Provided the attacker did not stop their own momentum to make room for your completion of the pattern. Stepping back naturally is totally correct.

If you grab and trap the attacker's grabbing hand, surely he's not just going to stand there and not react... I mean, chances are if he knows you're defending he may throw a punch with his free hand, right?
@ikarateclub10 ай бұрын
When u trap and turn hips you throw attacker of balance enough to create and "angle of cancelation" for the attackers free hand.. this allows you to execute technique with hands up in case of punch
