That is THE SIGNATURE ALF pump!!!! I've seen SOOOO many 900 and 1000 Series ALF pumps with this engine; they were omnipresent at least where I lived. The 6-71's were usually found on ladders or on pumps with larger pump capacities. One thing I find odd with this particular unit is the pump panel on the officer's side. But this was BEAUTIFUL!!!

That's what you call a REAL fire truck!! It's red, has open jump seats (whole open cab is great, too) and has a Detroit 6V-53 in it. This is how fire trucks are supposed to look and sound like.

The rotator lights up top have speakers under them semi-enclosed in stainless steel. The rig may have had a Q on her front bumper but if York PA did have them on their apparatus it was since removed.

I wonder if any old Blue Bird All-American school buses were powered by a DD 6V53...I know some 1970s Blue Bird transit buses had this engine!

american lafrance was doing good untilthe filed bankruptcy the were not verry popular for a few years know they are on the way back with more plants in the us! the older trucks like this were made to last they were slow but they got there. Know days the departments need big engine and automatic transmission and when they sell the old trucks they strip them and want top dallar for them and when sombody buys it has to look all over the place to find parts to refurbish it.
