As a citizen of Yemen, I reside in the country and have traveled extensively from east to west. I strongly detest and fear Al-Qaeda more than any other entity on this planet. However, I have never personally encountered or been aware of any presence of Al-Qaeda on the ground in Yemen. My only knowledge of them has been through media reports. When I heard a mercenary claim in a documentary that "Al-Qaeda is in every corner in Yemen," I laughed loudly, as it seemed to me to be an exaggerated attempt by a liar or mercenary to portray themselves as a hero under the spotlight of media attention.

This happened in Iraq after the 2003 Invasion in Baghdad, I have seen it with my own eyes, the US decided to cancel the police and army so we lived few months with no order and few years after (edit), cars with shaded windows comes into our blocks assassinating key people (by key I mean educated, spoken people that might be considered to lead people), people suspected it was Iranian backed militia (Badir) that even had tanks in Iran and the people were being assassinated were majority of the Sunni side, maybe the BBC can go and invistigate these too, it was more messy as both US and Iran going at it in a race.

I considered it for a few days but decided the risk of getting stuck, ending up in a basement somewhere without support, or simply dead and forgotten wasn't worth it.
