This sort of thing confuses and likely upsets most horses. Just about everything tells them that it's a race day, then they're just "displayed" and go back to the barn without having done their jobs. Penny Chenery said this about Secretariat's farewell appearance; it was very unsettling for him. Must be tough on these animals that very much like routine to have such an anomalous experience. I get that it's done as a means of appreciation for their fans, just wish it was somehow easier on the horses.

Probably as a precautionary measure. American Pharoah is normally calm, cool and collected but being led out to the racetrack and into the paddock just to be paraded before adoring fans would confuse Pharoah and possibly upset him enough for him to cause a scene.

As a teen seeing Secretariat (Georgous horse)it has been many many years for a triple👑winner and Penny Chenery was there ,Secretariat ‘s Mom .Belmont always show her statue on tv These Beautiful creatures are loved from me and from you.
