Grew up in Glasgow, we watched roots as part of our schooling back in either the late 90's or early 00's. I remember it causing a bit of a stir and a bunch of parents complained to the school.

What you need to understand about grime clashes is its not for the lyricist because the flow and pace is to fast to spit metaphors and lyricist bars the objective is to get reloads and u do that by being funny by sounds grimey by dropping a solid bar but u don't always have to be the best I'm the world to win a clash as u see with double L reloads

Before I start: Izzie Gibbs is 🔥(freestyles and tunes, definitely a personal fav. Made Stormzy (unintentionally) look like a dibby dibby mc on RinseFM). *Villain vs Chucky on Whos da Boss is too funny* (Chucky is the guy who got chased off in that silver car by Depz, Villain and co.) Dialect vs Jafro at LOTM 8 (2019) is good too 4:36 - ye 5:35 - engineer be slipping, turn up Villains mic FFS. Round 1 and its already a sabotage ting. 6:59 - That hoodie and hat is that 'Lyfe' clothing I mentioned before (from that Brum bar by Mic Righteous where he says 'and they spell it with a Y fam'). 7:10 - Not sure how don't flop works, I've seen like 2 clashes from them ain't a fan of the set up, although some artists I rate have been on there. Whos Da Boss is based on reloads and is a sick format. LOTM there are no reloads and the public decide after the DVD comes out. With LOTM you can always tell who won because 90% of the time most people agree. 7:46 - 'Real talk I rate (like) you both... lies, you know I like to buss joke (make jokes)' - no the hardest or deepest bar but it is cheeky and I rate it. 8:40 - 💯 9:29 - Mo Farah - Team GB long distance runner that won 4 gold medals at the olympics (and a TON of other medals at other events outside of the olympics). 11:43 - It can be perceived as an L by the crowd/community but it isn't like you are penalised for it (like a test with negative marking). In this specific case I don't think it matters (imo), he already had gotten the lyric off the first time clean and got the reload for it. 13:16 - I dunno why he knows specifically but I know Izzie is OJ and his uncle is a farmer. 13:37 - I guess so. 14:07 - Definitely have to check out Dialect vs Jafro now 14:32 - There are reloads on Don't Flop grime if it was a reload I'd call it fake imo. Energy was there but bars weren't. 15:28 - THIS FLOW. CHECK OUT VILLAIN VS CHUCKY BRAH That flow had lyrics too so defo a reload, see how the crowd reacts compared to the Dialect one before. 16:29 - 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 VILLAIN AND IZZIE ARE 2 PERSONAL FAVS OF MINE DON'T GAS ME 17:12 - 🤣💯 19:44 - Cultural thing IDK. On a same level to the 'your breath stinks' par 20:38 - 🤣🤣🤣 22:33 - ye 24:02 - reference to 'Bonkaz - Run Out The Ends' 24:21 - That was a reload imo, 'Dildo nose' 🤣 _I have no clue who DJs at Don't Flop (as I said, I'm not the greatest fan of the platform/setup). Big Mikee at Who'sDaBoss does a waaaay better job on the decks and maintains a level and doesn't give out BS reloads. Proper underground too, crowd is gully. Check out Villain vs Chucky._ 27:36 - Yeh 'Phil Mitchell' 29:11 - 💯💯💯 THIS IS THE IZZIE I RATE 31:42 - Ministry of Sound is a club in south by elephant and castle. Not sure what he was taking though, I can't understand what he said. 32:00 - Babatunde is a Nigerian (Yoruba) name that means 'father returns'. Something to do with the reincarnation of a father or grandfather. 32:48 - Gambia* Villain has said stuff like this in a couple clashes like in the Chucky vs Villain clash. Just a put down between bars, like that 'your breath stinks' par by Demon when he is clashing Bashy. 34:12 - VILLAIN VS CHUCKY 35:58 - 🐍🐍🐍🐍snakes in the circle _(looooooool I wrote snakes in the circle and the emojis before I continued to hear you say it)_ Check P Moneys war with Dot Rotten. P says something like 'Now I know why when I had beef with Ghetts, he thought could get info about me off you'. I can't remember what diss it was on, but P vs Dot is HIGHLY recommended, probably more so than Chip vs Bugzy. 39:37 - Not sure who said Dialect isn't on spitting anymore: -He's from KWAY up north (Leeds) so he is far from the scene (closer to Scotland than London). -He has a similar work rate to others up that way like F.O.S (who also had a clash on LOTM 8 (like Dialect)). -He released a track on his own channel 5 months ago. -He was on Reprezent Radio in Brixton, London like 9 months ago with Kirby T (Large up DJ Kirby T). -In the past 2 years he's had vids on SBTV, JDZ and WHOSDABOSS and been on a BBC Radio 1Xtra set. -Clashed on LOTM 8, Talk Is Cheap and Code Red in like 2019. -Don't know who said this about Dialect not being around, he is around. It's just his work rate isn't crazy, but I wouldn't expect it to be, he isn't surrounded by MCs and radio. He has to go out of his way to do it. *DEFINITELY CHECK OUT DIALECT VS JAFRO AT LOTM 8 AND VILLAIN VS CHUCKY AT WHOS DA BOSS*

Where's this Izzy Stormzy radio set? The way Chucky got ran off in that video(all jokes) man should stray away from the Grime ting. Apparently, you guys played roots in school? That is crazy to hear from my American perspective. Naw Villian about to slaughter in this battle Dialect needed that man mic to break as he had no help. I get the bar but upon further review, I cannot approve it still. yes, it is cheeky but the timing feels forced. Fair I'm still getting my rubric for battles in the Uk the rules and allowances are different. Okay I was like Izzie talking crazy quoting my price to me in a bar is wild. Dialect v Jafro in the can coming soon. Im for sure gonna check that villain and chucky that boy villain is cold. 16:29 my fav bars total destruction Maybe one day ill get the big lip thing lol. I do not in any way shape or form rate the dildo nose bar. izzy bag is way better than that. 29:11 that Izzy is the best version I saw in this clash. (replayed it and had the ugliest face writing this. ) I think the Babatunde bar is kind of like please be quiet before I call yo dad and have him come home. In that sense, I think the punch lands. Otherwise, I'm still lost lol. Dot v P on the way trust got the TL and all that. Someone said they were his boy and asked me to check his P110 and after it dropped I asked where Dialect was as I liked his flow but he said man was doing the regular job thing no more music. Yea I didnt know he had to do more to be seen but makes sense it's like when you live outside of LA you gotta do more to be in the scene.

@@Jurnalist_ Stormzy and Izzie on Rinse fm : 'Grime Show: Stormzy, Izzie Gibbs, Dapz On The Map & Jaykae' Some schools played Roots, some didn't. big ups on the battle rap reactions my guy! Can't speak for this individual DJ but reloads in grime are supposed to be from the crowd reaction, basically if you cant hear the next bar cuz of the noise it gets pulled up and restarted.

Well, way to suck the fun and amusement out of the battle. In the UK there is more of a focus on fun and having a laugh as well as good bars than in the US, reloads are based on crowd reaction not the DJ's individual opinion of a bar. Also, of course Roots is an international programme! Lastly, you asked for someone to explain the relevance of Villains mum being cockney. Well it means she wouldn't have a Nigerian (or any African) accent. (Btw, adequate means good enough).

I would say that stumbles aren't as bad here, you take points away but its not an instant loss of a round, but its all relative. If its a massive stop or stumble then it usually takes away enough points for me to call the round 0-1. And yeaa reloads are dictated by the crowd and not the DJ. Edit: Uno Lavos (Probably dont spell it like that) was one of the first American rappers to come here to battle and got zipped up 0-3 against Lunar C. One of the funniest battle rappers of the era, and probably the most legendary UK battle rapper.
@Jurnalist_2 жыл бұрын
I think that's how you spell it. I really like Uno the bravery to go to a unknown market at the time and try and make it work you gotta respect it. DJ choice from a good dj needs to happen more. Yea I took your stumble note last night while recording. it helped even the clash lol.
@fractal_mind5622 жыл бұрын
@@Jurnalist_ Its a tough one because a DJ dictating reloads could lead to bias, which I realise is a bit dumb because the crowd is usually bias too, but you can see it on URL, where people get a don dimarko (no idea how you spell that) for not much of a bar. I dont like that personally because its kinda telling the crowd to react, and then people judge the battle on how the crowd reacted. Its tough! And yeaa fact UNO came prepared to the UK too he just got unlucky with opponent. Lunar was on a murder spree that year.

@@Jurnalist_ yeah grimes birth was very similar to how hip hop was, garage music would be run in clubs and mcs weren't spitting bars... the mc was there just to add engery n hype up riddims and the dj if the dj dropped a sick blend... then mcs eventually flowing riddimsn rhyme 1 2 little bar that fans eventually became familiar with, but the actual bars were so basic n the rhyming was 1 syllable nursery rhymes, but the garage scene and early grime was rave music, it werent about deep lyricism, the main focus was creating new flows and riding riddims to gass the crowd n get the vibe correct, this was late 90s/00s and I was a hip hop head that loved lyricism so I kinda looked down my nose at at early mcs with trash lines n that's cos at the time I dint understand it weren't about deep lyrical content... but when garage slowly morphed in to grime with a more hip hop inspired drum pattern, a dark sound and mcs started making tracks n added more content into bars that's when I fell in love with grime cos we never ever had our own sound that represented uk ends (hoods) and mcs would talk about the uk working class hood experience but yeah I was like you where if a mc just spat basic material I didn't care for it until I clocked there's two different sides to grime, theres the track/mixtape side with proper thought out content, and theres stage show mcs that writing catchy flows/ sing along bars to hype up events n sets... sorry brother I've just rambled a paragraph to you my apologies 😆
