Being an old school rap lover from the NYC area and hearing RM start roll calling a lot of the NYC area rappers is why this song has always been one of my favs. I've gone to many rap concerts over the yrears and have seen most of them in concert. Cl smooth was a part of a rap duo with Pete Rock. You know this is genuine love and respect for real hip hop and not a gimmick because you can't fake that kind of knowledge and passion. One of the MANY reasons I love BTS💜💜💜

I love this song! The confessions of the rap line backed up by that smooth vocal line R&B hook. And it's so cool to hear J-Hope mention J Cole as his inspiration way back then and know that he'd meet him at Lollapalooza '22 and go on to do a collab with him -- talk about dreams coming true!

In the new book "Beyond the Story" which is a book they helped write about their first 10 years and is currently at the top of the New York Times bestseller list, j-hope talks about their early days together living in a dorm. "It was a rap den, a den of rap." There's a whole chapter called "School of Hip Hop". RM would create playlists of artists they had to all study. Suga had been making music & writing beats since he was 12 and j-hope learned to rap when he joined the group - they say with his background in dance, he naturally picked up beats, flows & pockets. And the vocalists all attended the "School of Hip Hop". They'd sometimes come back to the dorm after rehearsals at 11pm & just talk about music until 6am with no sleep. They just lived & breathed rap & hip hop. Crazy.

“they did their research” oh baby.. SUGA & RM? In their dorm before debut, they used to teach the other members about hiphop. they called it their “hiphop school” it’s actually really interesting to read. I read it in their book.

I love their rap-heavy songs like this, where the rapline can show off their skills. They have more of this in their early days, where the vocal line mainly sing the hook. (Of course I also love their later work, where the vocal line have larger roles. I love all songs for different reasons.) I also appreciate the different relationship they each have with hip-hop and how they portray it here -- RM as a poet, J-hope as a dancer, and Suga as a musician.

BTS is true hip hop artists mixed with pop and R&B. because they have diffrent memebers with diffrent taste in music they always try new styles. and korea don´t really know much about hip hop in general so most idols they just want to look cool and rap. but their don´t impower it. only BTS does that. and maybe some solo rappers in korea that i don´t know but also tablo and epic high who do it. you can feel the passion and that is something other groups lack. they can try and fake it and just be swaggy but it feels different when you see them perform. BTS is soulful. But what amazes me most is how a rapper like RM and Suga also get inspired by other music and is now venturing in different direction with their music. imagine if eminem did that, i don´t think his fanbase would like that. Not many artist can do different styles and keep their fans happy. to me it makes them even more cool when they proof they can do so much more.

Back in the day they had a reality show, where BTS had celebrities teaching them how. One of the celebrities was Coolio. Coolio was a hard ass on them but to me, they were important lessons to learn. Not everyone is going to be nice to you. Coolio taught them that they need to learn the history of Hip Hop. That they needed to know who, what when & how did Hip Hop enter the world. He quizzed them. If they didn't know the answers, pushups. Coolio also explained to them how important "details" are to any performance. Also, before BTS debuted, they went to an Eminem concert. Just the way they talked about seeing that concert, you could tell, Hip Hop was already deep in their blood.

I’m SCREAMING!!!! Lamar I’m so glad you caught that bar cause so many people miss it and/or don’t comprehend it….When I first heard it I literally lost count of how many times I played it back, over and over and then I just sat and put my head back and reflected on how my own life would have been WITHOUT HipHop and it was just unimaginable…. I wouldn’t have danced, I wouldn’t have wrote, I wouldn’t have required a thirst for reading and so many other things that just comes naturally with True HipHop…. I Love Y’all Reactions!!!! 💕💖💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💖💕 Tre here’s a link for you!!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWfQlYWsZb-XiJo. This song was dedicated as an ode to T-Roy from Heavy D and the Boyz who died after falling off the stage.

I haven’t come across you before so I don’t know what you’ve seen from BTS but I recommend DDAENG, UGH and baepsae. There are also videos where koreans explain the depth of the lyrics which really makes the song so much better.

Rm and Suga were underground rappers before being BTS. It was already in their veins even before they were famous. The cyphers they did were targeting those who mocked them (mainly fellow underground rappers) for choosing to become "idols" like their rap now that they are idols are not "true" rap anymore or something like that. They taught J-Hope how to rap but him being a street dancer has already had the rhythm and swag deep in his bones. They were supposed to be a hip-hop group, if you see their early songs most were hip-hop.

One of my favorite things about BTS is that to this day Hip hop is never far beneath that shiny POP surface. It breaks through in their musical authenticity and more often than not their dance runs off of it's rhythms. When the vocal line were learning to sing, after dance practices that took up most of the day, the rap line introduced the vocalists to artist after artist. During what should have been hours to rest, they were immersed in the sounds of Hip hop which didn't just shape their personas but in various ways, unique to the member, became a part of their identity. BTS the group owe so much to the individuals in the rap line.

This is the key difference between BTS and other 'Kpop' groups - BTS are hip hop lovers/rappers who just happen to be part of an idol group whereas others are idol groups who just include rap in their tracks. A very distinct difference.💜

Is this not a favorite or what? This old song is fantastic. They were so young and so talented. And just to add a little something: this was 2015 and J Hope mentioned Hope World and Cole World, then in 2022 singing with his long admired idol. It shows you that hard work and desire makes dreams come true.

Yeah one of the hardest bar I've ever heard "If loving this culture is a sin, I'll die a hundred times"... Especially when you think about when this culture named HipHop was gaining earlier in the 90' more and more popularity, it was treated by the conservatives and let be honest by white racists as a sin calling it devilish just because it was coming from black and latin communities and that popularity scared them... And thats how you know the rapline of BTS are real students of the culture not only regularly paying tribute to those who influenced them but also standing beside the communities where it came from.
