The first time i visited the US I got a tour through the neighborhood with the mandatory stop outside the house that was "over a hundred years old!!"... I decided that that wasn't the time to mention that I grew up in a house that was done in 1725. Sure, regular wood panels and insulation has been added, but inside the walls are still logs with straw caulking.

1:30 I've seen a town in the USA that got wrecked by a tornado. EVERYTHING was destroyed EXCEPT 1 building... a cinema, former townhall, former house of some guy from GERMANY... It was the only "brick & mortar" building in town and was practically untouched by the storm (a bit of roof was torn off, but 90% of the roof and all of the rest of the building where ok)

There was also the famous last standing house after a hurricane (Mike?) in Florida. AFAIK the guy was American but he said that his previous house had been razed by a hurricane 20 years ago, so he rebuilt it following, if I recall, the Miami-Dade construction code that requires basically brick-and-mortar houses (as well as windows able to resist high winds and such). Well the result was obvious from the picture.

@@stefanoballiero8319 I don't doubt it, but not with the current American way of building houses. Quickly built, quickly dissasembled :D Using more traditionnal US methods - or modern building methods used in Europe - would result it much more robust houses in general, but more expensive. For making them fire and hurricane resistant, the cost would probably be greater than building a brick-and-mortar one. But it is possible indeed.

About the temperatures in Europe: It depends on the climate where you are. For example: In The Netherlands the humidity is pretty high. If it's 20-26 degrees (no jacket, just a shirt type of weather) it's really nice. Hotter than 27 degrees it will start feeling really hot. Hotter than 35 degrees you usually won't see many people outside or everybody is sitting in the shade. When you go to Spain it's different. It's much dryer there, so the higher temperatures are less uncomfortable. 35 degrees there is just nice weather. Another example: I once went to Rhodes (Greece) and my hotel was on the west coast of Rhodes-city where there always was a nice breeze. It was really nice even though it was 40 degrees. However, when we would go to the east side of Rhodes-city it would feel insanely hot because there wasn't any wind at all.

8:24 you often say that the US is so populated. As an example, Texas is twice the size of Germany Germany is 350 square kilometers and Texas is almost 700 square kilometers. Nevertheless, fewer than 30 million people live in Texas and over 80 million people in Germany. So the US is nowhere near really populated for the large amount of land that is there. There are basically 2 types, thickish base, big variety and exotic flavours, generous topping, reasonably cheap, mainly takeaway (search images , Australian pizza) or thin base, bugger all topping (like Italian or New York style) and expensive for what you get, usually what you would find in a pub or restaurant. 2:51 You also have to look at the historical background. Why did the Americans make it to the moon? Not because of American scientists, but because of Operation paperclip. All the German Nazi scientists were recruited by the Americans or simply taken to America. That was of course partly tried by Soviet too. Because they knew that Germany was miles ahead in terms of technological knowledge and so. And that's why it was then possible to shoot a rocket so high into space, and the model for this was the V2 rocket from World War II, which was developed in Germany. And yes, back then it was Berlin, the culture and world capital, today it's New York and nowadays people go to the USA and develop things there, the best example is Elon Musk. Not American at all, but developed his electric. car company Tesla and his space company in the US Or Steve Jobs, the father was Syrian, the mother was American, but with German and Swiss descent and also had a completely German name. Well, he was born in America, but his parents weren't really Americans. But he built his company in America. And so it is with very, very many companies that are very sophisticated. Are, but often built by people who are not Americans. Or e.g. Müller or Anheuser-Busch, these are all German companies run by German migrants. Now, of course, run by Americans. Budweiser is owned by Anheuser Busch and Anheuser Busch was founded by Eberhard Anheuser, a German migrant who immigrated to the United States in the 1800's. And then set up his brewery there. Or Miller beer, Miller Lite all belong to Miller Brewing Company. And it was founded by Fredrik Miller, who was born Friedrich Müller in Baden-Württemberg, i.e. near Stuttgart. And emigrated in the 1850s and then opened his brewery in Milwaukee. It's still there to this day. And soon and so on and so on On the other side e.g. In Germany, Mercedes-Benz is a company that was founded by a German ( Emil Jelinek Mercedes) Just like BMW is a company founded by a German ( Karl Rapp) or Porsche ( Ferdinand Porsche) . Or or Bosch (Robert Bosch) or Braun Elektrogeräte, whose devices were often the model for today's Apple devices because their design were so futuristic. Also founded by a German. And of course all the German breweries were also founded by Germans. And that's the difference, a lot of big American companies weren't founded by Americans, But by migrants, often in the 19th century or today by migrants like Elon Musk.

Fun fact about the US and the metric system… after achieving independence the US wanted to switch their system of measurements because they wanted to get rid of everything vaguely british, so they went to france and ordered a set of references for the metric system, theoretically being the first to use them, the ship carrying the references was sunk with all hands lost by pirates along the way to the states and therefore never made it to the states, when the day came to decide wich system to use they had no references for metric and continued using imperial because that was simply easier, so using imperial is theoretically not how the founding fathers intended but out of necessity

Not sure if it is true but I believe wood is widely available in the US and that's why it tends to be cheap(er)? Makes sense to build the whole house from wood; the Amish do it? Here in Europe there are so many regulations and in Holland there is hardly any wood. If there is wood, it is mega expensive. I bought 8 small beams the other day; in centimeters 5x7x240 which came to 64 euro so roughly 65 USD for 8 pieces of wood...1.96x2.75x95.5 inch wood is like gold here! 3:10 This is NOT Photoshop, this is REALITY That is also very clear to read, gun share program. Metro gun share program. And that's a whole sharing station in Chicago and there you can see the AR-15 assault rifle, which is used in war, but also in a lot of school shootings or school shootings in the US. It's not real guns that are there and you can't really borrow them, it's more of an art project and a provocation against the gun culture in the USA. but this should make it clear how easy it is to get weapons that are actually weapons of war

"Movies portray America as being one big city" Looking at population figures, that's also true. Most US citizens live in cities, therefore it's a safe bet to assume most of US citizen life is city life. The population density of the US is 37 people per square km (96 per square mile) whereas in Europe, the population density is 117 per square kilometer. So there's about three times as many people per area in Europe. And one fifth of US citizens live in rural US. In Europe, one in four people live in rural areas. So yes, most of the US landmass is desolate and uninhabited and flat. But US life is still very much the city or suburban life we see in movies. On the flipside though, you won't find many completely desolate places in Europe, even in the countryside. Our fields are really small compared to those found in say Kentucky. EDIT: Oh and if you ever have the time and can afford it, you really should visit the Netherlands as the cities of Amsterdamm the Hague and Rotterdam doesn't really have rural areas between them. It simply continues over into another neighboring city, so it feels like one massive city.

To be fair about the houses, tornadoes and hurricanes aren't exactly common in Europe. We've had two tornadoes in Czechia last year, and one hit directly in to some towns. It was a local disaster comparable in destructive force only to the floods in the 2000's. True, most of the buildings kept standing, but it was basically just the walls, everything else was shredded by a whirl made of bricks, glass, rocks, splinters and metal blasting a corridor through everything that stood in it's way. So the buildings aren't really that strong, it's just an absence of insane disaster winds in Europe.

But if your house gets destroyed by a tornado, surely you try to make the replacement house tornado proof?
@Killerean
@Killerean Жыл бұрын
@@Phiyedough Well, people sure would like to but that stuff gets rather expensive because to keep the structure intact you're essentially building a bunker. Unless the thing is made of reinforced concrete or boulders that can't be moved, the structure will be still broken. So unfortunately no, it's just normal houses again.
