Also, Czechia's song, yes it's about women's empowerment but it's specifically about slavic women's empowerment. It gives a nod to Ukraine with the chorus in Ukrainian and it basically sends the message of slavic countries standing together and not having their "crown" (aka autonomy) taken away by Russia.

Czechia is more about Ukraine than women but the message is pretty universal so after the war it'll still be relevant I guess :D You could see at the bottom of the screen it said "UA: You are strong", the UA means it's in Ukrainian, the song includes 4 languages overall: Czech, Bulgarian, Ukrainian and English. And of course the sister they're singing about is Ukraine, Czechia is also a slavic country so Ukraine is like a sister to them. That's how I understand that at least, I remember seeing a whole wall of text about the meaning of this song and the video

Croatia - anti dictator song - quite political but as it mentions no names it's fine Czechia - not a feminist song but a song in support of Ukraine and against Russia - again quite political but as it doesn't mention any names it also passes the test Norway would be the feminist song so far this year but no, no woman is under any obligation to vote for it. It is a SONG contest, NOT a singing contest. Vocals help but at the end of the day amazing vocals can stay in the semis (n. Macedonia 2021, Finland 2017, Montenegro 2022) and comparatively poor vocals (Moldova 2021, Finland 2022) can sail through to the final and even get 2nd place (Ukraine 2007, Russia 2012) or win (Azerbaijan 2011) Juries judge based on delivery (vocals in relation to technical difficulty, staging, charisma, choreography, professionalism), song construction (instrumentation, melody, cohesiveness, production) text (lyrics and meaning) and accessibility (how broad an audience a song will appeal to, how high a song is likely to chart) their scores are also affected by name recognition and politics. Televoters are encouraged to vote for their favourite song/ performance and well the reasonings for these picks are extremely varied and subjective.

Hello Favour! Latvia's song title can be referred as a lullaby. It''s sort of indie rock? (I'm not too good at choosing the right music genre). Anyways as I have said, it's a lullaby meant for people searching a quiet space to find relief due to everything has been happening in the world. I hope the meaning I got is right, and if there are some latvian friends to correct me i'm more than happy to know about it since I'm in love with it.

About Eurovision being a "song" competition, yes, exactly, that's about the song, so not only about hitting the notes... You need to perform well, make a show to be remembered and the song needs to be catchy. And this year especially there will be some "political" songs because of the situation in Ukraine, i personally don't think it's that bad. Eurovision was about connecting Europe after the war and now someone is taking away peace from us in Europe so we have reasons to be mad.

I think it gets forgotten that other countries are fearing Russia could get them when they're "finished" with Ukraine (Ukraine will come out strong imo) so it shouldn't be too shocking that Croatia, Czechia, and maybe more countries will send in songs about the war. Plus there have been songs about war in this contest since the 60s so there's that.

Malta used to send famous singers instead the best song, but this time they chose the best song. Toy was song from Israel and this year Israel invested 900 000 dollars for the representative Kira. Spain is the best so far, but you have to see whole song with English subtitles, but should read meaning behind song before watching it! So far this year has MANY AMAZING entries!! For me, NORWAY is #1, CZECH REPUBLIC (Czechia) is #2. I keep bouncing around on my #3 at this point, but I am really liking ESTONIA, LATVIA, IRELAND. CROATIA and ROMANIA are dark horses imo. Both are anti-war songs and presented in very different ways. If you watch all of CROATIA's performance, it gives similar vibes to Verka Serduchka's "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" presentation in 2007, and ABSOLUTELY fits the Eurovision mould. I REALLY hope Germany chooses Patty Gurdy and her song "Melodies of Hope." If so, then GERMANY will be Top 3 with NORWAY and CZECH REPUBLIC (so far) for me. Rumour has it UK will go with Rina Sawayama, who is a Japanese-British singer, but we'll see in early March! Ireland's song this year is much better than last year's in my opinion.
