"Sobriety for Father Jack must be like taking some mad hallucinogenic". That's my favourite line in the series. I'm amazed the audience barely reacted to it.

I enjoy your Father Ted reactions so much, I really look forward to them. Its probably my favourite comedy, and I always wondered what it would be like to see an American react to it, to see if they understand the Irish humour. I've seen other reaction videos to it from other Americans, but yours are by far the best. In other videos that I've seen the people didn't really get it, and their reactions were a bit over the top, and literal. You really seem to genuinely get the humour, and its fun to watch. I like your Inbetweeners and The IT Crowd reactions too. It's a good channel, and I can't wait for the rest of the Father Ted reactions.

John and Mary are a parody (although not too far off the mark) of a rural married couple who have grown to hate each other. They stay married and act so in love in front of the priests because they think it's expected of them and they are afraid to go against the church. Another element to that is the fact that catholic couples wanting to get married in a church here have to pay to attend a course on how to be happily married delivered by a priest who has never been married himself. It's one of the most brilliantly observed aspects of parochial life in rural Ireland in the show.

During the episode "And God created women" when Mrs Doyle is talking about the naughty lines from the books and Ted is trying to shuffle her into the next room, McClynn actually breaks down into mumbles as she is pushed into the next room while Morgan BARELY holds on. When she yells from the other room "Ride my sideways was another one" which I think was adlibbed, Morgan has to puff air just to not break down.

I think you're right about Father Dick Byrne only being in those three episodes. John and Mary are minor characters, but they are in more episodes than others. They represent the type of Catholic married couple who hated each other, but wouldn't devorce, and always acted lovingly around a priest to keep up appearances. The other Bishop Brenhan episodes are 'The Passion of Saint Tibulus' and 'The Plague'.

When you put the episodes in order, this is the third appearance by Dick Byrne and the fifth by John and Mary. It's also the second by Sister Assumpta. Dougal wasn't wearing his blue jumper the first time, so he doesn't remember, obviously... Sister Assumpta's actress is another who went on to Ireland's main soap opera Fair City. The show is now a good place to spot Irish stars before they made it big either at home or elsewhere.

What I find funny, is after watching all these British programmes and adverts and shows, you'll probably have more in common with many Brits and Irish when they reference or joke about these things or harper back to "The Good Old Days". Which I think you can only do if you were raised on the British Isles. You may well be an honourary Britisher. UK | USA

Cigarettes and alcohol is a song by Oasis, who were huge back then. So, cigarettes, alcohol and rollerblading is an homage to the oasis song as rollerblading was father Dougals’ vice.

Just an observation - two errors made by the script writers (one possibly deliberate) in this episode. They don't call them police and police stations in the Republic of Ireland - they're called Guarda (or more popularly the Guards (but never police) and guarda stations. This probably deliberate as the show's original main intended audience was the UK on Channel 4 and some Brits wouldn't get the reference to "the guards" - I was even caught out when I as a Brit lived there when I should have known better. Also, the breakfast cereal Lucky Charms that Dougal seems fond of is a breakfast cereal only available in North America - not in Ireland (or the UK).
