It,s really amazing. The song originates from Liverpool. It has a deep meaning. Only two footballclubs sing this. Both cities with a true fanbase. Liverpool FC and Feijenoord. Dont know if anyone has mentioned it in the comments yet, but French police are known throughout Europe for being more violent and more assholish than the average European cop. Most of the trouble, as i understand it was at the away leg in France. Our fans are very loyal and amazing supporters, but the most fanatical of the bunch are not, how shall we say it, the brightest of people. Pair aggressive/negligent police with drunk football supporters, make them gather at unsafe places, and add a very passionate home team in Marseille (who are known throughout Europe for being some of the most fanatical fans on the continent) and trouble is bound to happen.Example of bad policing by the French cops: I heard the police made away fans in Marseille go in groups of max 20 people, when Marseille ultras/hooligans were waiting on the square where the Feyenoord (away team) fans would be let out of the away section, without any police escort or protection. Feyenoord fan for all of my life.

you should really go to Feyenoord once. this game was crazy but the away game was even crazier. the Marseille “fans” are bastards. Before and after the away game they followed us with machetes. I will not go to Marseille with such hopeless people. we as Feyenoord have to be careful with fireworks, which probably won't happen 😂. we have to play the first away game without an audience in the Europa League and the first home game without the fanatic following. We also got a lot of fines for firework unfortunately. unfortunately the uefa does not understand what atmosphere is

So the story is that Feyenoord ultras are hooligans and neo-nazis, they went on social media to advertise they hated foreigners, arabs, black people, we also found some of 'em with blurred faces doing the hail hitler sign etc. So as Marseille is a city of immigration, very multicultural, there were clashes as Feyenoord fans came to Marseille to attack random citizens un the city, wearing all black clothes (you can find videos). In this video here at 4:45 this side is Marseille fans, all the stand on the top with the flares are them (they were sanctionned for that for the return game so one stand had to be empty...)
