We lost Mari that was the base of our defense system with Rodrigo Caio, Rafinha that went to Olympiacus and then returned to Brasil but not to Flamengo, Gerson that was sold to Olympique de Marseile, Reinier went to Madrid and now is in Borussia, Jorge jesus that is now heading Benfica of Portugal and the team itself changed a lot. Last year we could not fit a good coach and Flamengo lost his essence. But now, 2021, we are back on the game with so many good players that came in this window, such as David Luiz and other names from Europe. We are on finals in two cups: Brasil's cup and Libertadores da américa (Latin champions league) and we are 4th place in Brazilian championship that is longer than de other. Actually it was the League (Campeonato Brasileiro), the Continental Cup (Copa Libertadores) and the Rio State Championship (Campeonato Carioca). The National Cup (Copa do Brasil) was won by Athletico Paranaense, who beat Flamengo in the quarter-finals.

2019 Flamengo was the only team to win both Libertadores and the National Championship alongside with Pele's Santos, and is the only team to do it in this format, which has more games. This is one of the best teams in brazilian football history, and probably the best of this century so far. It broke the record of most points in the National Championship in this 38 round format (90pts). The crowd you talked about is the Flamengo fans, the so called Nação/Magnética (which means nation/magnetic, the first nickname is because of the numerous fanbase, Flamengo has over 40 million fans, and the seccond one is because of their impact on the team). That final goal if you knew the story you would’ve gone crazy, Flamengo hadn’t won the copa libertadores for 38 years, and we were losing to river plate 1x0 in the 87th min when Gabriel scored the first goal, second one 93rd min. He brought us the cup after 38 years, and the league title, being top scorer in both competitions, and almost beating Liverpool in the club World Cup final.. that 2019 team is in the history forever.

The Flamengo team of 2019 won the Copa Libertadores - South America's version of the Champions League - the Brazilian League, and the Campeonato Carioca (Rio de Janeiro's championship). An interesting fact is that they won the Libertadores on Saturday, November 23, 2019, and clinched the League the next day, while the entire team was absolutelly drunk on top of a trio elétrico. This happened because Palmeiras, the only team that could still catch Flamengo, lost to Grêmio 2-1. Moreover, this Flamengo team was the only one in history to win both the national league and the continental title in the same year, except for Santos with Pelé. They also achieved the best campaign in the history of the League since it adopted the 20-team points-based format, breaking nearly all competition records: they accumulated 90 points (the closest record is Atlético Mineiro’s 84 in 2021), the highest number of goals scored in a single edition (98), the highest goal difference ever (+42), and the greatest gap from the second place (16 points), even though the runner-up achieved the highest points ever recorded for a second place in the League (74). It was truly a special team, one of those we only see once every 20 or 30 years.
