The US and European procedures when it comes to standards are almost the complete opposite. In the US, foods and drugs etc are allowed to be bought until it is proved they are unsafe (gotta love that freedom!), where in Europe everything needs to be proved to be safe for consumption before being allowed for purchase.

(amalgam) we humans make these mistakes and you could say its part of developing. but these companies don't care about the consequences, and they get way too powerful sometimes. its just like a knife is a handy tool for you and me. but its a weapon in the hands of someone who has bad motives... money.

8:00 There's a high probability that you have never eaten real bread - the stuff you can buy in US supermarkets barely qualifies as bread. If you want to buy real bread you either have to come to Europe or have to find a bakery in the US that produces real bread and not the strange stuff that is used in US sandwiches and the like but doesn't really deserve to be called bread. PS: Rye bread, also known as black bread, is far better for human consumption btw.

@@MjolnirFeaw Yeah, there is a huge moral difference between eating meat from animals who had a good life and those who have not. The problem is that the consumers shouldnt be the ones who has the power to keep bad meat afloat. There should be regulations so all animals has been given a chance to a good life. The problem here in EU with our subsudies is that it gives more percentage to the big producers, meaning worse treatment than the smaller ones. So policy is the problem, but also the potential solution here. I wish you the luxury of not having to read studies before buying a pack of meat to make sure the animals been treated well.

That rule doesn't only go for the food industry, but pretty much any product in the US. You can sell any unsafe product until someone gets hurt. Only then will you have to prove it is safe. Interestingly, the US arms industry is excluded from even that rule and even when a gun explodes in your face you'll have a hard time proving the manufacture liable. in the chicken debate i'm with those, who wonder what they do, that makes it necessary to chlorine wash your chickens... the entire problem with trade between the US and Europe is that, in Europe, you first need to prove your product is safe, before it can get onto the shelfs, in the US it's the other way around... btw, there is this footballer nalf here on youtube, who plays in germany and when he went back home, he accidentally went to McDonalds there, he said he could taste how bad it is for him... because of all the regulations in europe, McDonalds has to uphold, the food is actually not that bad and he was used to it and wasn't thinking... he called it poison.

If I recall, food poisoning is much higher in the US compared to the EU and I've heard many times that people eating the same food they did in the US but in the EU feel more healthy for it. I think a big part of the different policies in the EU and US boils down to the US being more capitalistic with no universal health care, basically, it's more profitable for the health care industry that people actually get sick and it's cheaper to produce food with a lot of these chemicals in them, basically, it all boils down to profit above anything else. In the EU, having universal health care puts a big incentive of governments looking after the health of the population and not just with food we eat but in many areas like workers rights. In the EU we also play it safe than sorry when it comes to things that can impact our health in that it has to be proven to be safe whereas in the US, it seems it's the other way around where it's got to be proven to be unsafe. When it comes to the health and wellbeing of the citizen, I prefer the EU model as it seems the US model is taking chances with the people until things do go wrong. Also, a lot of the foods shown in this video, many of them are not banned in the EU, just that some of the chemicals that are banned are removed, hence the difference in taste from the same foods and drinks in the EU and US. Anyway, I'm not opposed to chemicals, GMO's and other things being done to food, but it has to be proven to be 100% safe to our health, this is where it feels like the US is cutting corners to save money.

The EU also usually employs a form of economy called "Social Capitalism" instead of the "Free Capitalism" of the US. The US thinks that the invisible hand of the market will solve all problems, so the government intervening isn't necesarry, because if some company does something bad, people won't buy from them so the bad company goes bankrupt. Social Capitalism means capitalism, but only until it starts messing with people. Here the government is more eager to intervene and ban certain things, because they think that companies are usually better at keeping their shit secret than the average person is in finding this shit out, so that companies need monitoring to make sure they don't go way overboard in their ruthless pursuit of profit at any cost, even if it costs lives.

On the chicken issue…. Chicken production plus eggs has been changed massively across the EU in recent decades. Stocking numbers per metre squared has been reduced, new better sheds and hygiene protocols have cleaned up the industry massively and the chickens have also been vaccinated against salmonella thus reducing human mortality rates….I think it was in 2015, in US there were about 250 deaths from salmonella that year where as in UK there were none and the researchers had to go back 5 or 6 years to find one death. Somewhere on KZbin there is a video on chicken factories in the US,workers are seen standing in puddles drains blocked with bits of chicken, it also showed high levels of cross contamination going on but the worst part was the recent reporting of workers having to wear incontinence pads so that they could pee themselves and keep working rather than take a toilet break that the management scrutinised closely. This is obviously not all chicken producers across the US but several cases have been found but the process speed legislation across many states has been increased, evisceration at Speed causes unnecessary contamination of the carcass with faecal matter thus requiring chlorine washing. Hope your planed move works out, love from UK keep safe and well👍🇬🇧

One of the things that have caused the food issues in the US is the whole shelf life, transportation distance thing. All your foods are made to last super-long in order to be able to centralize the manufacturing to a few places, which leads to foods barely fit for human consumption (along with the FDA being made toothless). In Europe, things are a lot less centralized, the transport distance from factory to store might be as little as twenty minutes drive. This leads to a lot less need for the more dangerous substances, and when you add in our equivalents of the FDA having a lot more legal power to regulate businesses...

When they delivered meat from the USA, we had to stock it separately and was not allowed to move until it went through all the tests, first a vet comes to take samples and runs test, if it passes those some exports come for more tests… mostly too many hormones is the problem, anyways before American meat hits European markets it spend a year in stock going through tests… sidenote much of it becomes trash because it does not pass tests. Companies are free to slowly kill their costumers, and costumers are free do eat dangerous food. Long live freedom!

When you create a society in which THE ONLY criteria against which EVERYTHING is weighed is financial, and all action/inaction can be justified in the mame of profit, you've created a situation wherein literally nothing is valued, unless it can show a clear profit. So, the question becomes, is it ultimately more profitable to keep the population healthy, or unhealthy? The answer seems pretty clear, and may also indicate why state sponsored jingoism is demanded, from cradle to grave.

The answer to all the :why do they do this?" questions is a simple one, money.. It's all about higher yields per square yard/meter, quicker growth for earlier harvest/butchering, and replacing natural ingredients with chemical equivalents which are much much cheaper. So.. the answer is that simple... it's all about money, cooperate greed and in the US case, capitalistic politics (which also puts money before people). In the EU which has social democratic capitalistic ideals (that's a mouthful...), it's the other way around, people first, money second.. you can still get filthy rich but... you'll be healthier hehehe

The reason why they put ingredients "that are not needed in the first place" in there, is the value of cheaper production or because of optimized production chains in which the material essential. M&M once changed one single chemical to a differtent substance and had to change big parts of the factory for that. Its expensive and stressful for the companys, so they avoid to do it, if not forced by law or the public.

In our area of the Palatinate, you can find Schweinemett but people prefer "Bratwurstfülsel" which is the mass that you fill into sausage casings and which is already seasoned. You either eat it with bread or with steamed potatoes and pickles. "Why don't we let food be the way food's been for a couple thousand years". Because, IF we do that, we would have a worldwide famine. Modern grain is different to "old timey grain", because it is more resistant and at the same time more harvestable. Example: Take a farmer from 1900 and one from today who both cultivate the same area. Through technology and breeding of certain types of grain (without genetic engineering!) the yield has increased by 3250%. Genetic engineering is trying to increase this even more and to make certain types of grain cultivable for regions where they could not have been grown 100 years ago. The problem with genetic manipulation is not so much that you end up with more grain, corn, etc., but whether the genetic modification has an impact on our diet as a whole and if it has side effects in the specific (e.g. cancerous in the long run).

The reason for the use of GMOs (genetically modified organisms) is that natural grown foods generally don't provide a lot of food or can't be grown effectively in some climates or anything else that inhabits their effective growth. By modifying the plants they can more effectively feed humans because they can make more food per plant, be resistent against bugs so no spraying with agricultural toxics against bugs is needed or they can grow in warmer or colder climates. This has sort of been done for decennia by farmers where a plant that grew more food or was better resistent against something was fertalized by another plant with those abilities meaning they would get more plants with that ability.

breeding grain for specific propertjes is pretty much the same as GMO treatment. Both change the genome. The advantage with GMO treatment is the ability to only change specific genes (nowadays due to all the grain "breeding", it is a lot more susceptible to disease than previous corn types). GMO might help to fix some of these vulnerabilities or help decrease the necessary water etc. It has to be properly controlled and tested though

Yes chemicals and GMOs need strong regulation to make sure companies that make them actually ensure that they are safe, but it's not like chemicals or GMOs are intrinsically evil and will kill you just because their chemicals or GMOs. Those only describe how we produce these compounds (calling something by it's scientifically standardized name or producing it on an industrially efficient scale doesn't make it dangerous) or species (basically any of our crops aren't natural, but have been selectively bred to become better at providing us with what we need GMOs just use different faster methods to do that). And only because something is "natural" doesn't mean it won't kill you and sometimes artificial products get replaced by natural alternatives but uses those in ways that are even worse than the artificial product was.

"Why don't we just stop messing with food. Why don't we just let food be the way food's been for a couple thousand of years." You wouldn't recognize corncob or a peach from a couple of hundreds or thousand years ago. We always messed with food. For example, lots of fruits changed drastically during cultivation. It started thousands of years ago with selective breeding(more pulp=more food=more water=less/different flavor), now we just added genetics and chemicals. Search for "how fruits changed". It's mind blowing... and sick. Some fruits are so messed up that they need genetics and chemicals to gain at least some of their flavor back.

Maybe that's why, we in the Netherlands, are so tall. There used to be given growing hormones to cattle..and we drank lots and lots of milk in our youth. When those things were not regulated yet

Mashed potatoes - potatoes, milk, butter, salt and nutmeg. Peel the potatoes, cook and then "mash" them with the other ingredients.

In other countries we drink milk right after milking the cow, because its usually raised naturally. Not here in America. I grew up with my Mom cooking and making breakfast with the milk right after milking the cow. Naturally fresh

Farmed salmon isn't banned in Europe and it's colored with astaxanthin as well. In fact, astaxanthin is considered safe and it's even sold as a dietary supplement. Mountain Dew isn't banned anymore, because it doesn't contain BVO anymore.

We have a brand of instant mashed potato without those additives in Sweden, not needed to make a mash. Farmed salmon? Strange, the Norwegian farmed salmon sells a lot in Sweden (even if voices are raised about the farming problems too). It's probably the coloring that makes it extra pink that's banned.
