You might not know that "robot" as a word comes from russian, meaning "worker". So when he says "robotten gehn", he uses it in that sense, bringing "going to work" and "being a robot" together to emphasize the repetitive dullness of work, where workers don't make decisions, but only perform tasks.
@DasIstDochMalEinName

Right, there are even some more words used in this song which don't really have a foundation in german language. That's because song is based on "A Clockwork Orange" - the story of that book (and also the corresponding movie) takes place in a near dystopian future, where a lot of the words used especially by the young gang members have become a mix of eastern-european, russian, latin, german, english... and so on. In the book it's much more prevalent than in this song. When you start reading the book (which is written from Alex' point of view and hence uses his language) it's a bit odd at first. But actually, after a short time you get used to it...

Aint Russian Robot is slavic. But close enough to Russia. And it was originally just a word for repetitive as stated labour.

The word roboter is meaning worker. It is used in the “new“ way in a czech book about 100 years before. The roboter as an artificial being made his way from that book into the world.

Maybe you could react to a song from Das Lumpenpack, they are a pretty young band, lots of Die Ärzte influence. In "WZF!" they give a pretty accurate description of the first half of 2020 (to Billy from Green Day, who woke up when september ended). "Mein Hass" and "Hauch mich mal an" might also be something for you. As they derived from poetry slams, they have lots of text, phrases, puns and humour, so if you are already quite fluent in German they might be interesting to listen to.

As Pico Pictures already said it's a direct reference to Alex (Malcom McDowell) in "Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick. "The droogs" is how they call they gang. "Robotten" means to work like a robot without thinking. Just doing your 8 hours a day without even thinking about what you're actually doing. Think this is a critizism of the modern industrialized world. Like people putting together parts of a car and doing the same every day of the week for years.

Hi, your explanation was really good. With the background that this song is based on "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess (written in 1962) - if you know the book, your analysis would have been even deeper. But still I give you an "A" for this. If you want to see something completely different why not try "La Bomba" sund by "Lords of the Lost". Once you get into the music the video is really fun to watch.

@@tonyme7426 I just looked the history of the Toten Hosen up and I was sure that Hier kommt Alex was a song from the 2000's and just realized that it is older than 10 kleine Jägermeister xD . To be fair, as a brother of a Toten Hosen fan, as a small child, I remember 10 kleine Jägermeister probably just more than Hier kommt Alex.

do me afavor, please watch at least the movie " a clockwork orange" by stanley kubrick, listen to this song afterwards and may or may not make another reaction to it. the whole song is based on that movie.. so you might get a glimpse of the effect of this bad, dystopian movie...which almost became reality, just saying

they used to be a good punk band in their early years, but soon transformed into mainstream poprock. this is obviously one of their older songs which they became big with. nice riffs n melody. btw I was there... same festival.. different stage .

every punkrockband is considered to be a mainstream band as soon as they get successful. I see it the other way around. They are a Rockband, and develop as musicians.

Hi, D Skorpio! As "The Hosen" came orginally from the early Punk-Scene, about 30 years ago, their Main-Focus was social critics. I dont agree with your perception - they are still "The Original" and have never forgotten their roots. Today we wittness a, in dignity grown up band, that only got BETTER and very MATURE. Old vs. contemporary =Two differnet bands?! NO, Not at all!

@@dskorpio7705 Die "Politik" bedient sich 1.) immer "opportunistischer Stimmungsmache" zum eigenen Vorteil und 2.) ist dies als Argument, reinste Polemik. (also völlig unsachlich) Bei den Hosen, da is nix "schiefgelaufen".

If you like other sorts of music, there are absolute gems in the German Darkwave genre : QNTAL (pioneers of electro-medieval, my favorite band for almost 20 years), Deine Lakaien (romantic dark wave), Das Ich (industrial), Escape with Romeo (guitar darwave, but M. Elbern's voice is to die for), Derriere le mirror (obscure dark wave, one of my pets), Funker Vogt (electro-industrial), In my rosary (dark wave with M. Jecek from Derriere le Miroir), Wolfsheim (the best synth pop band ever ?), Chrom (electro-EBM), Namnambulu (romantic dark wave with an incredible singer) and too many to mention. Enjoy mate ! I'm from France but most of my music comes from Germany !
