Finn (eng: Find) - started as an online "used item for sale" service a bit similar to craigslist. It has since expanded to a place to find professional services (carpenters, plumbers and what not) as well as travel. It is by far the most popular site of its kind in Norway and used by many since it is free if you are doing private sales. Finn - even though it means Find in English - is also a name. Thus the cat - "Finn" or "Puse-finn" has become sort of like a mascot. It would be somewhat similar if Craigslist would have made a commercial with a dog named "Craig".

The advertisement with the doll hare as a baker is based on a children's song every Norwegian knows from the story about Hakkebakkeskogen (In the Forest of Huckybucky) by the Norwegian author and poet Thorbjørn Egner. In the song, the hare adds a kilo instead of a teaspoon of pepper. Opplysningen 1881 (Information 1881) is a company that provides information about telephone numbers etc. in the Norwegian market. Many have called the information just for fun to get answers to all sorts of questions - in the case of the hare, it wants information about how much pepper there should be in the gingerbread dough.

Opplysningen 1881 used to be 018 when I was a kid. One day while my mom was out at an evening course, my friends and I were alone and wanted to make waffles, but we couldn’t find the recipe. So I said «Why not just call 018?». So I did, I called and we got an answer and a nice lady gave us the recipe for waffles! Then later, there was a program on the radio where they interviewed some «O18 Ladies» and they asked about what people asked them about, then one said «We even had someone call and ask for a Waffle recipe!!!» and we were laughing and laughing, couldn’t believe that they were talking about us on the radio!!! This must have been around 1978… No Google or KZbin to turn to for waffle recipes then… 😂😂😂

For context with the cat watching the angry man on tv: There is a show called "Sinnasnekke'n" ("the angry carpenter") where he and his team goes to peoples homes and helps them renovate and gets angry at how incompetent they are. The people why apply are usually people who are mid renovation, but are just terrible at doing it and probably have been in the limbo of being mid renovation for a long time. There is usually also some bad communication between the couple (it's usually a married couple with kids)

With the bunny baking gingerbread, the reason it's funny to us is because it's one of the most iconic stories in Norway. The Baker's assistant bakes gingerbread with a kilo pepper by accident, and when the fox then comes to try to intimidate the bakers into giving him free food, they give him a piece of gingerbread with the kilo pepper to try to trick him into believing that when you pay for them, they taste much better (if that makes sense). In this scenario, however, the baker's assistant calls for help because he doesn't know what to do when he's had a kilo pepper in the gingerbread. It's a good story. One that I've grown up with😎

There is some mess in machinery now. Try again in a bit." The word translates to "Find". They originally started out as a 3rd party trade company where users could organize trades to anyone interested. (Kind of like Amazon or Ebay) But they eventually expanded to also look for travel arrangements, work arrangements, and other branches. I don't have a good overview of their total scope at this point honestly.

Norway have quite a few long running series in commercials. The Finn.no (similar to Craigslist) commercials have the cat as the main protagonist, getting things done for himself and other by using Finn. This particular series of commercial become incredibly self referential after a while and kind of collapsed into itself. You are watching some of the later commercials in this series. They are not used any more. Some commercial series have actually been going on for over a decade by now, and we see the on screen family grow up in real time! An example of this is Telenor (a cell phone service), where we have seen a guy finding his girlfriend, getting married and now they and now the kid has grown up and is going to school. And Telenor is handling this better, so I don't see the the series stopping until the actors get fed up. And if they do, they still have the kid brother to the main character turning up every now and then, so they basically is keeping a backup family to follow!
@norse-nilsbjasa6 ай бұрын
The Finn commercials are good fun but are there anyone who know of a compilation of the Telenor commercials about mobile phones and all things you can do by them, it started with a boy, he has grown up, dated, married, now has kids, in the latest he is victim of crooks breaking into his phone ans stealing info, pics... It has evolved over the years, quite a story really. Could be fun to watch Tyler watch it.

It´s easy, Norwegian commercials are Creative and Innovative, I enjoy them and u make my day, Thanks! Commercials in the USA are stuck in the country's current policies and any slip of a company or product that bothers a minority is cause for complaints and lawsuits. Example: Case of the legendary Aunt Jemima maple syrup or the Uncle Bens brand that removed the brand's emblematic figures from their labels. Likewise in the commercials, everything is politicized, if they made advertisements with cute animals like in Norway, some organization or group would surely complain about abuse, cultural appropriation (the sloth bear is from Central and South America), patriarchy in the case of the cat that runs away from its offspring (the best of all you shown LOL). or anything that freaks them out and is a fact. Looking forward your next videos, your channel is awesome and... I ❤ Norway!!. Hugs, 🤗

9:02 I don’t think we ‘like’ cats better than dogs, it’s just that Finn (a popular Norwegian website for almost anything) has a cat as its mascot. There is also another Norwegian brand that has a dog as a mascot, but I can’t remember what that was. Also the whiskers thing was cat food.
@I-Am-Nobody-No16 күн бұрын
We Norwegians like cats and dogs pretty equally, but in the bigger cities and stuff and overall it’s easier to have a cat than it is to have a dog and stuff. Plus having a dog in Norway requires some special places they can go, for example my dog needs a garden or something alike a garden for her too do her business in. She also have to have a big space she can run around in, so when we had an apartment we had a BIG outdoor space really close to where our apartment was, so then we could have her run around there. A while we had made our own place on our porch for her to do her business because it was too far to the outdoors. So that’s probably a reason for why Norwegians having more cats than dogs. So basically dogs have more requirements than cats. That’s about it, please like this comment if you have been reading all this😊 no pressure of course 😅 😊 and merry Christmas 🎄
